- Sandra: Well, looks like everything turned out–
- Larisa: Yo, Sandy, I’m really happy for you and I’d love to let you finish, but the floor is lava.
- Sandra: Please, Larisa, this isn’t the right time for one of your silly games.
- Larisa: You misunderstand, Sandy.
- Larisa: The floor is literally lava.
- Sandra: AIIEE!
- Yuna: I had a teeny weeny mishap while installing the radiators.

Lava moat!
and this, kids, is why you shouldn’t build a lava moat without having constant supervision
One often meets his destiny on the road one takes to avoid it
Whoopsie! Lava moat gone wrong…
Ah yes, the self-fulfilling prophecy.
Called this a few weeks ago. THIS would end up being the REAL disaster.
That’s what could be called a self-fulfilling prophecy …
This is just like in those cartoons where they have a time travel episode. The ones where they get warned of a terrible danger by their future selves but by trying to prevent the disaster they just become their future selves, giving them no reason in the first place to travel back in time
Still a good payoff though
So new girlfriend for Richard, new house for the whole family. That IS a drastic change in life.
Lava moat………
What, no “kanye west” tag on account of the first panel? 🙂
It’s a little bit late for the lava moat now that Hitomi has managed to get into their house…

Does his home owner’s insurance have the “malfunctioning lava moat” coverage? Most people don’t opt for it.
@ foducool:
Unless you’re Phineas and Ferb.
I think I called it about trying to prevent the prophecy of “bad moment” becoming fulfilled as a result of it (again, like Oedipus).
When is a lava moat not a lava moat? When the moat leaks, then it’s just lava EVERYWHERE.
*Whips out bag of XL marshmallows.
@ Brett P Bellmore:
I’m pretty sure most Home Owner’s Insurance won’t cover Acts Of Larissa anymore 😛
And this, folks, is why you shouldn’t try too hard to prevent a bad prophecy fulfilling, at least not w/o giving serious thought to the side effects and likely consequences of the means you employ.
If not else, getting a new stepmom AND a new home surely fulfills the major change prediction AND the 2020-style disaster theme, w/o screwing up their future lives too much. In the near future, I wonder if David and Ye Thuza are going to host them for a while. This would fulfill the other forewarning of Sandra sneaking his way in Cloud’s bed.
Alternative last line of Larissa’s first panel balloon:
“… but this lava moat is one of the best self-fulfilling prophesies of all time. Of all time!”

Maybe they all move over to Japan?
@ AnonymousBosch:
Thankfully, they still haven’t removed Acts of Yuna from the list. Though it’s only a matter of time.
kanye west still uses zip disks, May all his drives CLICK.
Also here is hoping that richards new girlfriend doens’t burn alive.
Safety precaution, Yuna!!
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS!!
We’ve been over this several times!!!
A lava moat is nothing to trifle with.
when dealing with lava there is no teeny weeny there is only “that’s a big problem” and “oh, shhhhii-“
@ Drakeye:
Nah, It’s Yuna.
This is only a minor problem. At least Wally haven’t a new friend.
Don’t feel bad, Yuna. We’ve all done this once or twice.
I was was wondering when 2020 would hit the comics.
Wait, this is not a bad thing. In floor heating. FREE, in floor heating!!!
Yes yes…a few adjustments here and there, heat resistant floor coverings, heat shielding, in footwear, throw rugs, etc. Always FREE hot water, an actual HOT TUB,in ground heated pool, sauna, HOT HOUSE, no shoveling snow, REAL lava lamps, table side hibachi.
Oh and the best thing of all, heat treated, SANITARY floors, means means the end to the 5 second rule on dropped FOOD/ Yeah yeah I know, but hear me out. Butter side of the bread, hits the floor, you got toast.
LAVA MOAT!
Blkbear wrote:
You are underestimating the lava. I’m afraid floor technology capable of shielding lava is on same level as FTL engines and inertial dampeners … hmm, on second though, Yuna MIGHT be able to develop them …
See Sandra, this is just what happens when you don’t follow the instructions:
How to Build a Lava Moat (with xkcd)
Ever notice that Yuna’s teeny, weeny whishaps tend to be regarded as massive disasters to us “rational” people.
And as someone asking is Richard has “fire moat insurance” I think he’s better equipped if he has “Larissa insurance” and “Yuna insurance”.
Convection Schmonvection…
This ist all scripted like a very bad dream – and bad dreams was what started all this…
… where all what we see
or seem
is but a dream
within a dream.
@ doclbn:nope!, we’re not losing our ship. Sandra can burn, the house can go down. But we’re not losing our ship!!!
Burn the house boil the sea you cant take my ship from me. ^_~
And you all thought Larissa would grow up to be a homewrecker. Guess Yuna beat her to the punch. 🙂
Silly games? Sandra, hon, I thought you knew that you should always take Larisa seriously when she says the floor is lava.
doclbn wrote:
But if so, when did it start…? Will Richard wake up when his flight to Japan is about to take off…? Or is this Sandra’s next dream after the first two nightmares…?
Wow!
I am so not surprised, it’s amazing.
Combining Larisa with Yuna is one of these “do not try this at home”-things.
Wizard wrote:
If that’s so, then this would be a really good time to use the
plot device
that Larisa gave Luna. “One day, when all hope seems lost, Luna will show up and save the day by putting it to use.”
@ foducool:
the problem here might of been the adult supervision for all we know.
No Monday comic this week?
When Larisa says the floor is lava, you’d better take her seriously.
