- Lilith: Simply cast the Wave Shield at the dummy.
- Ars: Fine.
- Ars: You’ll see? Just another protection layer.
- Lilith: Not quite. Actually, the Wave Shield broke the fabric of the bluestream between Llyra’s Wave Warp and Aurelia’s Anti-Red Sphere.
- Lilith: If the hull now gets hit by several energy bursts at the same time, it’ll break. Ragnald Solito described a similar effect in chapter 7 of his book “Advanced Theory of Protection Spells”.
- Lilith: No, don’t do that!

inb4 WTF BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
@ vash_ts:
AHAHHAHA THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING!
Bonus points for brevity, minus for damage to Ars study.
@ Oddysen: And extra points for exploding the (hypothetical) enemy in his (hypothetical) lair.
I mean, technically if everything explodes, the protection will be gone…
Wait isn’t that doing exactly what she said to do to break the protection spell? Doesn’t that mean it shouldn’t do anything bad? Or was she trying to pass the test by being smart and telling not just how to break the spell but also how to blow it and the user to pieces?
Awww why do I have the feeling Ars will blame Lilly on this!? =(
@ illeatyourself:
It’s called, “Ars is a little shaky about present tense and future tense, especially when it comes to explosions.”
Hehehee; YES!
It’s gonna blow!
I call an unexpectedly powerful shield against the blast set up by Lili!
He divided by zero…
Lilith? Lilith?! LILITH!!!!
If you look closely, you can see the dummy’s head got wider, and the arms are turning to noodles. Speaking of noodles…
The warped view and the crack-shaped lines make me think the scarecrow encased in ice, not about to explode… maybe.
Explodey ice would be even worse.
I suppose its couldve been safer if Lilly did the entire thing herself
As I said before, Lilith is a talented intuitive with a strong grasp of spell theory; this ought to be interesting! My problem has always been that of not quite being able to make the leap from the theoretical to the practical. Her current problem seems to be a rather acute understanding about NOT being in the same room when making said practical application a local reality. Girls always seem to have a much earlier grasp of these practicalities than us guys. As I get older, I have learned that this is actually a good reason to keep them around, and in the loop! Again, thank you very much for a very enjoyable and well done comic!!! I breathlessly await your next epic comic!
Well, the protections look like they will have failed. Catastrophically, even.
Hopefully it’s not too big a catastrophe here.
He done goof’d. Consequences shall never be the same.
somehow i feel like there’s going to be an attack on the kingdom with a horde of dragons controlled by a mad man wizard that was once in the royal service but was kicked out because of the him using dark magic and the kingdom fall but Ilias and the gang must stop him and free all the dragons then the whole kingdom is saved….. does anyone feel like that way too?
It occurs to me that Ars would do well to get behind something solid. A stone wall, perhaps. Or two. Or three.

Or create another shield….
Well 10 points for creativity… minus 5 for sheer idiocy… If she is “screaming” don´t do that, it kind of demonstrates how uselles it is… only chance she has now is to somehow contain the explosion all alone… And well I doubt Ars is going to wait for that…
It does work…. in theory anyway.
Also casting a spell after she told you not to. What an Ars!
@ Bucc-i:
I don’t see her telling him not to cast the spell until he already did–”NO, DON’T DO THAT” sounds more like a reaction than, say, “Oh, but don’t do tha-” “Ars will cast a spell. 8)”
She already had him demonstrate the first, it seems only natural that he’d go through testing her unconventional selection.
I find it funny how closely Tlein described the exact process that got used:
Well done!

At the moment it seems that Ars is demonstrating how idiotic her aproach is when she is the same room… the “ball” in last picture actualy seems like another barrier that is attempting to contain the explosion. (is simply seems too stable contrary to swirling barrier picture before.) And given her surprised face I really doubt Lilith was in position to actualy cast any spell in time to do anything.
Bad, very bad…yah bad. (Dustin Hoffman voice)
Those who know the character in my avatar know how much I mean it when I say I’m looking forward to the next strip.
Maybe she should’ve warned him of the full side effects of breaking the protection that way, and asked if that was still acceptable
Nyerguds wrote:
Where did she warn him about any side effects? Ars is simply testing viability of her aproach… and well given how displeased he was with few blasted cauldrons this aproach to breaking the set of defensive spells will not make him happy at all.
Ars: Hey! Which one of us is the expert here, aye?!
*Ka-boom.*
Ars: Not. A. Word.
Alternately,
Ars? Ars?! AAAARS!
Continue
>Exit
*Gunshot!*
I actually went back to check his wording. It seems he said remove, when I was thinking he said dispell. Well, she certainly removed it alright.
kids, that’s how you create a supernova!
Well, there goes the school.
Anyone here played elder scrolls V? Something similar almost happens at one point in the game. A magical college exploding never bodes well for the outying cities… or the world.

There is finite amount of energy within the spells… plus you know school professors are supposed to be ready for their students screwing up spells… which is more dangerous than anything.
Ars will contain it, (maybe he already did – the transparent spehere around the dummy)
If it’s something from a book rather than something she worked out herself then I’m surprised that Ars doesn’t know about it.
Sorry, I mistyped e-mail address when I posted the above comment. I’ll post it again under my own identity:

Sorry, but on the last panel, did the dummy:
A) Freeze and start glowing
Or, more likely:
B) IS IT GONNA EXPLODE???

It could be both.

And your teachers knew everything? About every single thing? Even if it is in their field.
in all other settings mages have area of expertise… abojurists, conjurers, diviners… One would have to live for eons to gain full knowledge. Even dragons, beeings of magic by birth, are not omniscient. (And Ars is from draconic race, not fully fledged dragon)
@ Ziggrrauglurr:
Aww shucks, it was just that I have seen the kind of systems used before, where adding a protective shield of some sort to existing shields enables non-obvious attack vectors on the target protected by the shields.
This would have been so much more awesome if Ars was the headmaster of the Academy

That would be SO KILLER HILARIOUS!!!! XD
