Ambush! Obviously, they can’t reveal their base, so they’re knocking him out temporarily.
@Falcon: Obviously. Surely Viviana could have come up with a (somewhat) less painful way of doing it, though.
@ Insectoid:
Dunno. I’d think he’d resist anything he saw coming, so she needed something unexpected.
Well, it’s not as if they’re going to show you the front door. They still aren’t completely sure about trusting you.
And it’s a lot less obvious than knocking you out on the street.
It’s a trap!
But seriously, that must be some serum/potion that will give Ilias some awesome sauce powers.
@ Mufid:
The power to sleep peacefully while being transported to the real headquarters?
Um OW! No doubt that’s some sort of sedative so he won’t know the exact location of the hideout. Why she couldn’t have just asked him to accept it instead of jamming it into his chest is beyond me. Unless she wanted to do that for whatever reason. After all, she IS blushing. And now that I think about it (thinking of people getting hurt here and her possibly preferring not to), it never really was established whether the self inflicted injury she caused herself when she was introduced was an actual injury or some kind of fake blood she had hidden somewhere.
Wait what?! You’d think he’d be prepared considering what happened last time he’d followed her instructions.
I guess she has trust issues, wonder if thats going to come back to bite her.
@ norman728:
Um, I’m pretty sure that’s not anything nasty. For one thing, she instructed that the prison map be made, so you’d think she’d make use of it before she’d betray him and render it useless. More likely it’s some kind of sedative or magic potion that allows him to sense the entrance to the headquarters.
@ Crystalwind:
Or something to keep him from knowing where the shadowdancer’s base is…?
Punked for the second time!?
Did that school of theirs teach them anything!?
I agree that’s probably a sedative so he won’t see how to get to the Shadowdancers’ HQ. And she jabbed him without warning because it’s faster than convincing him to allow it.
… But I wonder why she’s going to so much trouble to take him to HQ? Is it just so they can study the blueprints and discuss their plans in a place safe from spies?
Or is it a ruse to take him hostage so that Alissa and Lilith will hold up their ends of the deal? Especially Lilith, seeing as she hasn’t had a chance to say whether she accepts the terms of the agreement.
Does this remind anyone else of a Bon Jovi song?
And how much sense does it make to jab him with a needle full of drugs, have someone carry his heavy butt to the secret hideout, only to do so again when it’s time for him to leave, as opposed to just meeting somewhere, running off into a separate, known-safe location? Or even hiding in a hay stack on a cart, if it weren’t expensive to do so. I imagine this either going elsewhere, or there being a definite need for the stabby hypo to be explained in the next page. Probably something to do with magic path-finding and a conscious mind.
“Pansy. All I did was stab you in the heart with this strange liquid. Are those bubbles?”
Again, I don’t like seeing the guys get played by the girls. Unfair.
I know it’s just to hide exactly where their lair is before she takes him there, but seriously – bag over the head, blindfold, even knocking him out with a stick would have been better.
I guess Viviana injected Ilias with special poison that will kill him.
This is a way to make sure that Lilith, Alissa and Illias will keep the promise they made.
“No antidote untill you’ll fullfil your end of the bargain”.
Beside, I really dislike Viviana.
Jeez… he’s 0 for 2 on spotting traps now, jeez…
Ok, she doesn’t want him to see how to get to the SD hideout, but why she didn’t just ask him to let her sedate him rather than, you know… STABBING HIM IN THE CHEST!?
Or it could be a cocktail that lets him into the hideout without setting off some kind of magical alarm for those not a member of the organization. like a magical temporary visitor’s pass. she might have lead him right to one of the entrances, figures if she pulls out a syringe he might you know…resist or question it, so she just opted to stab him.
Reminds me of Dexter
Seriously, when is this guy gonna stop listening to her? As if he didn’t learn his lesson the first time after she got him covered in shite, he had to follow her into a creepy shack and get shanked with a syringe. Next she’s gonna ask him to follow her into a dark alley where he surely wouldn’t get mugged.
@ Jason:
That’s what I was thinking.
Also, it could be a truth serum. She could be looking to make sure they are not trying to infiltrate the Shadow Dancers. Plus anything else she may want to know, like if they *really* plan on helping her still the Avaril.
Yep still a rogue. *STABBITY!
Either something to knock him out, to synch him with their teleporter, or both.
…is it sexy time now? D:
Jeez lady, ain’t you ever heard of a blindfold before?
An angel’s smile is what you sell
You promise me heaven and put me through hell.
Chains of love got a hold on me
When passion’s a prison you can’t break free.
Shot through the heart,
And you’re to blame
Darlin’, you give love a bad name
OOOOH, this is going to come back to bite her in the butt, I’m sure of it
I can only narrow it down to 3 things at this point : betrayal, Truth syrum or sleep potion.
I am liking this Viviana less and less. She needs to start showing some redeeming qualities or suffer some unpleasant consequences of her actions.

Come on… one would at least expect girl to use her charms and give at least one kiss before this… Plus he would have less reason to be angry afterward… win win scenarion.
…
… Why is she blushing before she stabs him but NOT when she comes in the building?

The injury was faked, that should be pretty obvious. How exactly she faked it is an open issue.

We know nothing about Viviana’s background– she might even be married. Hell, it might be her husband that Lili is supposed to *help*.
One problem– she stabbed him right in the sternum. Good luck even getting the needle IN to solid bone and cartilage.
If you tried that in real life you would probably just break the needle. Even if you got it into the cartilage there isn’t any blood flow there to take the drug where it’s supposed to go.
Much better to catch him in the butt, no eyes on that end and it’s a nice fleshy area.
At least she could have waited until AFTER the date before she stabbed him through the heart!
ouch, looks painful.
I think I have lost any sympathy I might have had for Viviana.
If it was either a truth serum or sedative, using the syringe in his derrière while his back was turned would have been the best option to her. That she attempted to stab his heart means two things: one, she deliberately wants him to know she is betraying him; and two, the contents of the syringe are not formulated to be surreptitious. The effect will not be pleasant for him.
I would have to agree with the theory that it is a type of poison and needed to be injected into his heart to quickly spread it and prevent him from having a chance to neutralize it before it becomes systemic. Providing him with temporary treatments, but not the actual cure, will keep him forever in the obligation of the Shadowdancers and unable to ever turn on them.
Me, I am pretty sure that the Shadowdancers have extremely good reasons to keep their HQ secure. Just consider, they are effectively branded as terrorists by the occupiers of their home country. Now, think what authorities like to do with those they have branded ‘enemy’? Not sure why Lilith hasn’t been subjected to forced brain-dump, maybe something like they DON’T want irrefutable proof that she wasn’t ‘in’ on the attack. But that’d be one thing I’d grab into my repertoire as soon as possible if I was a ruler facing an insurgency in magical / psionic environment. And old-fashioned torture could eb used as well, not that it really works, but if the allies the insurgency has don’t have anything of worth, a smart ruler would know and just stuff them into a jail, instead of expending resources trying to pump their minds magically dry.
So I am reserving judgement on Viviane until the story is sufficiently advanced.
Ouch! You couldn’t have gone for the arm lady?
you know, it’s be so hilarious if he woke up at their HQ and said something like “You could’ve just told me you had to drug me to get me here, sheesh.”
They make a great couple
@ Dizzy D.:
What you’d consider it to be okay if a guy put one over a girl?
I really like the story in general, but Viviana and the Shadowdancers are really starting to annoy me. I know there are hints that they have a more noble side, but so far they seem completely obnoxious, taking whatever they want and hurting others whenever they feel like it…completely selfish and self serving…it makes it hard to enjoy having them in the story…
