Shadowdancers 076

- Viviana: But she’ll leave her cell once for sure. To be taken out to the place of execution.
- Viviana: At least two fighters and wizards will escort her, better trained in combat than any Shadowdancer.
- Viviana: There will be even more guards at the execution grounds.
- Chereck: Isn’t that outside?
- Viviana: Right. That means you only have to break the two magical barriers above the yard, grab her and fly away with her. Unnoticed by everyone, of course.
- Chereck: That means… we give up?
- Viviana: Wait, there’s more to it.

Magical barriers, you say…
Only two books in and already a Chekhov’s gun might just be useful.
On another note, the shadowdancer who suddenly stepped in seems seriously seasoned. It makes me wonder how Viviana got to be in charge when she can’t have been operating for longer than him – something to ruminate on later down the line, maybe?
lilith will free herself
The drawing of Viviana in the final panel is exquisitely done. Not an exciting pose at first glance, but it is just so well done. Kudos.
Intruder from above! Must be stopped!
Summon…Bluestream SCISSORS!
Almost like that wizard wants to be the Gaia equivalent of Green Lantern there.
Seasoned doesn’t mean he’s good at leadership. Likely, Viviana has shown herself to be an effective leader, even though she’s young.
Oh now I wonder if we get the brilliant move worth of Grand Admiral Thrawn….
@ Lex-Kat:
Oh, I agree. But I’m sure some minor characters have a few thoughts on that, and it’d be nice if they got a shot to express them!
Ilias: “Wait, there’s MORE!? Alright, before you go on, let me see if I can sum up what you are about to tell me combined with what I now know: it’s impossible to get Lilith out, but if we wait until just before her otherwise imminent death, we will have a .00089% chance of successfully rescuing her without being seen?”
Viviana: “Um…Yep! That’s pretty much it!”
Ilias: *groan*
Hypothetical Scenario Wizard Guy, I hearby dub thee . . . Scissor Man.
You will feel honored. FEEL HONORED!
WOAH! NEW CHARACTER!
@ Sammieo: maybe it has something to do with her ability to create elaborate plans ruling out all the options thinking of any outcome and creating an escape plan at the same time IN HER HEAD
All of this suspense for the next page is killing me. What’s Viviana going to say!? >_<
Sandra is saving Lilith!
Wait, he suggested they give up and Vivianna didn’t punch him in the face and call him a moron? She’s feeling very forgiving today!
More impressive, though, is that Ilias didn’t give him a clobbering. Give up? That’s like grounds for guild membership being revoked!
It’s almost a RPG game where you hear something like: “Forget it…you won’t save her cuz I don’t want to…”
In all the plans, Lilith seems just passive.
Mistake?

The Averil, perhaps?
Alternatively, if someone knows how to create explosions, maybe create a little diversion to raise the odds from virtually impossible to exceedingly unlikely?
Viviana: Wait, there’s more to it.
Chereck: Oh, we give up and then we get killed too, right?

If you make us wait through 3 more pages of planning because of that I’ll make you sit in the corner of shame for a good 20 minutes.
They’re going to have this plan cooked up and perfected and just as they leave to execute it Lilith’s going to show up to say ‘but you forgot about the sentient watch cannons. Luckly I didn’t’.
But wait, there’s more! Try to rescue her within the next thirty minutes and we’ll throw in a shamwow, a forty dollar value, for free!
That’s it! They’ll all have this ridiculous plan that involves ALL the Shadowdancers. When they are in the middle of the escape Viviana will have to sacrifice all the Shadowdancers to free Lilith and then Viv will have to join Lilith and friends on their EPIC quest to save all of Gaia!
Or they could just make sammiches and say, “Meh.”
Scissor Wizard is my new hero. After Viv of course, I envy her mad planning skills
“But wait, there’s more!”
You just keep coming up with ways to make this seem more and more hopeless. I’m not sure we want any more.
Now, why do I get the feeling that the Blowblack crystal that Viviana got from Ilias might become really useful?
(Ah well, was worth a shot at speculation, right?) xD
Given the information that has been presented.
And that they have no apparent holes to attack.

“Only the bearer of the Avaril can claim the throne of Ileasaar! Without it, the rest of the crown jewels are worthless.”
if they could steal or acquire the Avaril before they free Lilith.
They could crown a friend queen and by royal decree release Lilith from her sentence.
@ Kuraimizu:
That would require a coronation. Coronation ceremonies take time, money, and a great deal of public relations to set up. Lilith could be executed way before then.
And there are no guarantees the new regent would honor the deal. Besides, the “behind-the-scenes-elf” guy would probably block that attempt to keep his puppet on the throne.
@ HardWearJunkie:
He is NOT an elf, he has normal length albeit a bit pointy ears…
Elves (at least in Illias´es retrospect) on gaia have ears longer than in Warcraft.
Two magical barriers ABOVE the execution yard…
But what of barriers below it? Burrow beneath, and you can use controlled collapses to conceal the convict’s re-capture!

This probably means he is of Elven descent, and only part-elf, the rest of him being human.
