For a second there I thought that was Viviana playing card houses. Then I realized the hair color is wrong.
@ All-Purpose Guru:
Interesting how the interior of this house actually looks more modern than the typical housing in Cania 11 years later.
That’s not a good sound.
That kid looks just like Vivian to me. @All-Purpose Guru, the hair color doesn’t really look all that off to me…
Based on the names of the parents and the “letter,” though, I presume that the girl must be Jael Bara. Unless Jael Bara is someone else related to them.
@ JaidynReiman:
@ All-Purpose Guru:
if you look closely that girl is blond and wears a brown headband, her parents'(?) surname is ‘Bara’ so I guess Viviana’s real name is Jael
“I am Gradus the Thread Necromancer, wielder of the Rod of Bump! TO THE TOP!”
Opened this page on my Android and a JavaScript alert tried to get me to scan my phone for viruses. You might want to check your ads for malicious code.
Seeing the cover I first thought “Jael” would be a man’s name. But after a quick “research” (aka google search) it’s more likely a woman’s name. So _might_ me Viviana. Eileen seems to look a bit like her.
They look worried. Waiting for something they would but can’t prevent. But the armored man on the door was either not expected or it’s a surprise he is the one they were waiting for.
Knocking the father down? Why? It doesn’t look he was about to hinder Gradus (or could if he wanted to). Was he the target?
Red crystal looks ominous.
@ Offline:
lol actually based on tags below that strip his name is Xardan Jaze, looks like Gradus will be late and Garret didn’t expect someone else :/
I can see now where Vivania’s motivation could be coming from. Her parents, as investigative reporters who would have unceasingly sought the truth and exposed the evil plans of…whoever, had to be silenced to make some takeover possible.
@ Erik:
This is why you always, always adblock. I’d be glad to support the stuff I love through something like Subbable, but the risks of ads potentially throwing malware at my system is not one I’m willing to take.
I find it funny. The first thing I noticed with this comic was how much she looked like her parents.
… I hope one day I can do this with art >.>

Such things are extremely annoying. I don’t understand why ad providers don’t thoroughly check all ads they publicize.

I can understand that. But if every reader used Adblock, neither Sandra and Woo nor Gaia would exist anymore. Check out this article I wrote: http://www.sandraandwoo.com/2011/11/20/thank-you-for-not-blocking-the-ads-2/
Things are/were looking grim. Mostly their faces.
In other news we now have the approximate date of modern events! At least I don’t recall seeing a date anywhere else.
Observations:
-The casket of Viviana’s parents is on the table in the first panel.
-Is that wand Bhaal-infused?
-The caption tells us that this should take place around the time when Cania conquered Ileasaar, a decade ago. It makes me wonder why they live in Aracona, the capital city of Cania, especially when they are star reporters of The Greendew Evening Standard. Do reporters of a newspaper often live in another country?
-Since this might take place during the invasion of Ileasaar, this might be an act of Cania to remove bothersome elements that could interfere with their plans. You know- arresting of “spies” and all that.
After killing the dad the mom is killed trying to protect her child, only for this act to protect her from harm anyway and destroy Gradus in the process. Eleven years later, she finds out that she is a wizard and – wait, wrong story. Seriously, though, I am glad that we are finally getting a little view into Viviana’s (?) past.
Wait, is this going to tie into the phony news story where Gradus and a couple others ended up being dead?
Well, this is a wonderful start to the chapter.
By wonderful, i really mean horrifying.
@ Mr_Nabby:
If they’re foreign correspondents they do!
considering where the other chapter stopped, with a ghost lady coming and all…. couldn’t Jael be that ghost? I mean, would make sense, wouldn’t it?
Any way I don’t think just because the girl has blond hair it makes her vivianny. I do believe the child is Jael but not Vivianna
Obviously he was expecting Gradus, but did not know what he looked like.
Yes, Jael likely is a relative of these guys. Is her letter in the box?
Nice page. And by “nice” I mean ‘Novil seems to have a knack for killing secondary characters in the very page they first appear in, lately”
Now, the plot twist is that these people are in no way blood-related to Viviana.

For what it’s worth, my Android gave me the same pop-up. looks like it’s a column we on the top right, simple red white color scheme.
He seems like a nice man. I think this will turn out all right.

They do, and then they have a sloppy verification of a switched Ad Source. It is a common problem, one they could solve but choose not to, because people still allow their Ads onto busy pages even after ‘mistakes’ happen. If Ads were not “active” and disallowed “active” content there would be be far fewer ways for an Ad to attempt this.
I refuse to compromise the security of my computer for any supposed benefit. There is no way to claim recompense or loss of work, because an Ad you allow to be hosted though your website hijacks my computer. Ad blocking is a simple, effective security measure.
Your continued use of an Ad Service that was still providing compromised ads over 15 hours (first report Tuesday, 12 November 2013 at 01:06 which you commented on with the post I’m replying to from 02:05, and then commented on by SirJerric at 17:40 that the issue was still going on.) Other comics I read when faced with the same issue, 1) notified their provider of the problem, 2) temporarily suspended all Ads until the problem Ads could be removed, and 3) said so in their comment. These comics have earned a measure of trust from me. While you may have notified your provider, you didn’t tell us you were doing so, and you also did not apparently act to prevent the issue from reoccuring. This action or inaction shows to me, that for you, Ad revenue trumps reader security. You are completely within your rights to make that determination. I shall continue to block Ads on your servers, just as I’ll continue to read Gaia because it has a really good storyline and life-like characters.
Perhaps donate buttons from various electronic payment services would be appropriate, or perhaps like Mel Brooks in Spaceballs, merchandising…though Gaia the toilet paper may not send the right mesage.
@ Just_IDD:
Looks like someone has severely underestimated the market demand for “Sandra and Woo: the Flamethrower”
This house looks very out of place with the rest of the buildings in this universe, especially considering that this is supposed to be 11 years prior. Are you suggesting the world was more modern 11 years before the main story?

Yes, the furniture has a more modern design, but I don’t think that it doesn’t fit the setting which even includes a magic cable car. So far we have almost exclusively seen the interior of the Academy and various mansions. More old-fashioned furniture is to be expected at those places.
what is the point of this? GET to the jail break please.
Man, the further you go back in a fantasy universe, the more you relate to everything.
Except door-to-door assassins, I could live without those.
