- Ryn: Now it’s up to Teglen and Edwyn.
- Teglen: My sister’s best friend always uses teleotactile spells of the fourth level to ruin my hairdo.6. Panel:
- Edwyn: Haha, she likes you!
- Edwyn: Tomorrow’s the picnic at the lake. Why don’t you ask her to–
- Edwyn: –come along?

Haha, the arc words come once again. It has been a while. Can’t wait to see what will happen now.
I am very confuzzeled by this page now. Are they actually going to try and trap her in a magical button on his shirt?!?!?!?
Maybe the button has a teleporting spell attached to it..
So, now we use the wands in the box… and possibly put Lilith in the box the wands came in? Hm… Subtle.
Hmm… Panel 6: Lilith looks forward, and so does Oago (the wizard who caught her). Panel 7: Lilith looks to the left, and so does Oago. How much did he notice, and will it be enough to foil another escape attempt?
So now she now that they with here friends and that something is going on and she need to react when give a signal.
no i don’t think the button s a teleporting spel in it or a Trap in. but something to disable the guard.
I’m going to Bhaal. Will you come along?
Ryn: “….I should probably run away before this guy wakes up.”
I love these webcomics, They are the best yet. Can’t wait for the next one^^~
Teleotactile spells of the fourth level for the win! B)
I don’t know what the button does, but I think “teleotactile spells of the fourth level” is a hint for Lilith to grab the button using magic.
I’m getting more anxious and pumped with every page. So, so excited.
Also, I love how the “teleotactile spells” comment references Red Hall, page 2. It was such a small thing that it’s a little personal, and if sensing Ryn didn’t already tip Lilith off, now she KNOWS that something’s up and these guards aren’t what they seem.
[s]Or maybe mages mussing up hair with teleotactile spells of the fourth level is actually really common and I’m just reading too much into it.[/s]
“Will you come along?”
I love it! Although I suppose one reason this makes me happy is that it reassures me the change in schedule isn’t going to stop our intrepid heroes from finally rescuing the heroine. And besides, I love it when a story does call-backs to stuff from ages ago.
Anyway… they’re just passing A13 there. What did Ryn cart into that room? Will we see next time?
Interesting to note that the “magic button” was not in any previous pages. Makes me wonder wether the Shadowdancers intended to use “come along” as a code word or if Lillith is having another vision. Can’t wait to find out!
@ Insectoid:
That would have to teleport at least two people out at once. Mass teleporting has only been done twice, and the Shadowdancers almost assuredly lack access to it.
Now that’s a sneaky way to pass on a message.
@ Crystalwind:
But Lilith sure as shooting doesn’t.
@ AmbiValent:
Actually, I think he’s looking forward in both panels. His expression has not changed from focused! and, to me, it doesn’t look like he’s noticed Lilith’s reaction.
Whew. Viviana wasn’t kidding. She can plan. For. EVERYTHING. Wow.
Isn’t the button just a voice morpher? Because the last text bubble seems to come from the button.
Why do I have a feeling that the Button was a voice transmitter to send a signal to the robot Viviana built (don’t act like all of you remembered it, I know a lot of you forgot about it) to mess up the convoy. In the chaos, Vivana herself might come and save Lilith.
@ Lizz:
Pretty sure it’s not common. I mean, he’s basically saying someone uses pretty powerful spells for the mundane and juvenile purpose of messing up someone’s hair. It’s clearly a message, and she caught on 🙂
@ AmbiValent:
No he didn’t, if you look closely, he’s still looking forward
Actually I think the button is more like a microphone and come along was an activation code. Now all she needs to do is get out of the way.

Now let’s see what happens if Faye shows up with Lilith’s parents and a flight of dragons.
I love the artwork on this page:
• Lilith’s look of complete dejection in panels #2 through #5.
• Her total shock in panel #6 recognizing the phrase, “teleotactile spells of the fourth level”, being used to mess up somebody’s hairdo.
• In panel #7 the look of dejection is gone, replaced by sudden total concentration and interest.
Very well drawn.
Hehe, love the “drool” coming the sleeping guard’s mouth in Panel 1. 😛
@ AmbiValent: As others pointed out, it seems to us he’s still looking forward. Trick of perspective, I feel.
RE Button: As a couple others mentioned, I feel as though it’s a magical microphone / transmitter. Although I don’t think it activates the robot (no, CDRom11, I never forgot. 🙂 Course, I’ve never believed there are wands in that crate, either), I do at least think that it transmits to all other members of their team so they will all know that she’s on the move.

Well, if you’ll notice, you can’t see the button in panel 5, either. My guess is that it’s supposed to be too small to be easily seen, and so we’re not seeing it now until they’re right on them.
I love the subtle choice of words here. Teglen states that his sister’s best friend uses teleotactile spells of the 4th level to ruin his hairdo, whereupon Edwyn tells him to ask her to “come along”. In other words, the person who ruins hairdos with TT4 spells needs to “come along”.
I’m guessing:
“Ilias knows this girl who used teleotactile spells of the 4th level to ruin his hairdo”.
“Ha Ha. We should tell her that we have some fun planned, and if she really wants to live, she needs to ‘Come Along'”.
would be too blatant? 🙂
@ NotHere:
Depending on who you ask the proper term may be “Thunder of Dragons” (from the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini in either book 3 or 4 cant remember which)
Also I noticed that the helmed escort is using either an iron or high carbon steel sword unless of course it isnt iron based at all, but if it is either then it’s either soft (pure iron) comparatively to other swords or VERY brittle (because it’d be so stiff) that is of course based off weather or not its only made of a single metal and assuming it wasn’t magicked at the forge
OMG!!! He’s a Fiah in a human shell!!
@ mhalpern:
I often wonder how much of these details the author is actually aware of, and how much he/she just lets us fill in the gaps?
On the other hand, I’ve never seen any indication that either the author or artist is active in the comments section. I have no context for their backgrounds. I can’t help but wonder if the fans sometimes give them too much credit?
Not having any input from the author does effect my enjoyment of this comic (and Sandra and Woo) to some degree.
@ Yawnitz:
Actually the author does show up int he comment section from time to time, either to clear up the comic or to throw in some hints that make it even more interesting and obscure to understand. 😉 Just not every time.
I think I just figured it out. The little button is not a voice morpher or a transmitter. It is far simpler and more complex. All the button is doing is disturbing the Blue Stream just a little bit at the correct moments. (He probably has a switch hidden is his hand.)
Now the first shadow dancer mentions fourth level telotaticle spells for messing with hair. This gets Lilith to focuse her attention on them.
Now the second shadow dancer talks and on his last word he turns on the button. This allows lilith to become aware of the disturbance. He can now carry on his conversation and highlight the words that matter. Example…
“Mary is bringing her duck. I’ll bring the practice swords and and the kids can play swords and shields. Oh and because of the mosquitoes make sure to bring full arm protection.”
Lilith will be able to sense the message: duck, shield of full protection. Howeve the mages have already proven that they are not as adept at sensing magic, since they didn’t perceive Ryn, but Lilith did.
I also wonder if part of Vivianas plan is that instead of bringing in magic wands and such. Utilize mega magic user that is already inside. LILITH.
@ mhalpern:
How can you tell what the sword is made of when all we can see is the hilt and the sheath it is in?
Message received. Button of freedom activate.
(Think of that evil ball on the first Men in Black)
@ The Silent Knight:
Interesting ideas, but I would be concerned about three things:
• I’m not sure there’s time for all that. The guard party is ready to open the door and exit the hallway.
• How is she supposed to cast a full protection shield with her hands cuffed behind her back?
• Your plan depends heavily upon Lilith understanding a whole string of vague, hidden clues. What if she doesn’t understand them, or only partly understands them? What if she, not understanding fully, does something completely opposite of what they want her to do?
@ PMark:
I think Silent Knight was just meaning that as an example to describe what we’re seeing with the “come along” words.
@ fots:
You are correct, I didn’t know what the Shadow Dancers would tell her.
PMark does have a point that whatever they communicate, (If that is what they are doing) will have to be quick before Lilith gets out of earshot.
@ Rene:
An excellent idea. Also, I think it might also be a communicator of some sort. Ready for a giant Viv-piloted robot to smash though the wall?
The Silent Knight wrote:
Possibly. However, she does have creepy glowy cuffs on. Still, since she popped a hole in a three-foot wall of magic-eating metal, I’m not sure how much of her current inaction is the cuffs and how much is her just feeling like it’s useless anyways.
We’re factoring out the psychological impact of this whole thing. I mean, Lilith is human. Seeing the ENTIRE CIVILIZED WORLD against you has to break something emotionally. Trying to get out of death when the alternative is being perpetually hunted and never seeing anyone again seems a little pointless.
Then she gets the cue words and realizes that there are people trying to help her, and that IS going to at least make her more open to using higher levels of magic.
@ fots:
As I said If it only uses one kind of metal
Ruby wrote:
The only good look we’ve ever had of Edwyn is on the bottom of page LJB17 as he and Teglen are just taking up their positions at the door. He wasn’t wearing the button then.
However, don’t forget the big, bad magic detector at the entrance of the prison. If that button is magical, he could not wear it into the prison without setting off the alarm.
Ryn stashed his “arts and crafts” crate just up the hallway from their post in room A13. You have to assume that they have already been down there to pick up the button and any other supplies they might be needing in the next few pages.
So. Did Ryn and company have time to rig the exit door?
Hm… a page is missing…
I saw this on Manga magazine. The scene where the guy knocks out the other dude is gone.
Did you find it superfluous?
Everyone,
may I direct your button attention to The Red Hall 039? It’s Lilith’s doing, and it’s the bluestream’s. It’s in the words.
On that off chance there is anything special about the item itself, magical, this might be inducive to her ‘phasing out’, for lack of a better word.
Fate bread-crumed deja-vus? 🙂
@ DiDi:
Novil gets money for publishing over on MM. One of the conditions of getting money there is that MM must be ahead of any other posting on the web. So MM will always be at least two pages ahead of us here at S&W. Perhaps the page you are referring to hasn’t been published over here yet.
I may be WAAAAY off base, but didn’t the deceased royal family have a princess as well as a prince? Viv is dedicated to avenging the prince, but didn’t somebody else mention he had a sister?
People have already theorized Viv was that princess and then came to the conclusion that was wrong, but nobody mentioned another powerful female from that nation… Lillith
People talked about that button and wondered at its importance. Nobody mentioned it has a blue-stream aura. Could that possibly mean Lillith saw it with her awareness of the blue-stream?
Obviously, the mage who caught her isn’t aware of it.
