- Reginar: How’s the situation?
- Guard: The magical seal around the building is still unbroken. There’s a good chance that Eldor hasn’t received any kind of emergency signal.
- Reginar: Today must be our lucky day!
- Salena: What are we looking for?
- Alissa: For anything that looks interesting.
- Alissa: Looks like a library. We can check out the books later.
- Alissa: What’s hidden behind that door over there is probably much more interesting!
- Alissa: Can you open the door?
- Fabius: Step back a few steps, please.
Have we seen Alissa using an arming sword before? No matter, it makes no sense for an archer to not learn close quarter combat as well unless the archery is purely a hobby. Heck, Lilith once used a sword.
Anyway, this door seems to have the same type of magical lock as the door in the previous two strips. Hopefully Fabius can open it and they don’t have to drag the cultist mage with them through this.
Is that the library where Lilith was studying?
the captain seems to be kind of a buck…
Pfft Pfft *Inhale* OPEN SESAME!
Fireball in 3..2..

Maybe using bow & arrow inside the buildings and narrow places isn’t the optimal option.
“Only a library”? No wonder all the secret passages were hidden behind bookshelves and the like! 😛

As I understand the academy tried to teach them a broad range of (weapon) skills.
Should have kept key-guy around. Or at least his hand.

Keeping just his hand probably wouldn’t work. In a magical technology, it most likely keys off of his aura, rather than any shape of his hand. Although, at that point, it has to be his intrinsic aura, otherwise he should have been able to prevent the lock upstairs from opening (if it required a key sequence of thoughts, or a calm mindset, for instance).
Fabius: Step back and let me be Fabulous
Skip the library? What are you, mad? There could be books in there!
It’s where they keep all the pokemon!!
@ clickbait:
The Academy as described by Novil in the recent questions and answers section seems to be an old Continental-style cadet school. The curriculum seems to be similar to that of early 19th century Russian, Prussian or Austrian cadet schools. Those boarding schools were relatively light on classical languages, but gave their students a very solid grounding in modern languages, mathematics, natural sciences and military engineering. The physical education included martial subjects like riding and fencing. The school lasted usually from age 10 to the age of 17 or 18 years. The graduates usually went on to serve at least some time as officers, but many embarked on business or engineering careers. Especially in Russia of the mid-19th century, the graduates of cadet schools were almost the only trained engineers.
The Academy seems to operate on the same principles, mutatis mutandis. We have seen that all its pupils have a good swordsmanship, decent magical skills and magical theoretical knowledge, combined with a good understanding of contemporary politics and geography. Essentially, even the weakest Academy graduate is a lethal opponent both physically and magically to any normal commoner who does not kill for living. This seems to be pretty well aligned with the class society we have seen. Gaia is relatively poor society, and a well-developed high school curriculum is quite enough for a person to become a productive member of the upper class.
@ Crystalgate:
All they really need is his hand…
Maybe Room Z1 with the activated trap?
@ JacobStepo:
Because it was stated that it is in the hideout of Disciples of Two Heavens back in TWBH 084.

Uh oh. If San turns up, high tail it out of there, and do not let her open any cupboard doors. Of course they’re playing into Eldor’s hands. For a world-threatening maniac, he knows human nature well, and will play everyone like pawns until he can checkmate Gaia.

Second Panel: Okay, Okay, it’s your lucky day, Regime.
Also, I like the sound of “stand back”, that door’s gonna be opened in a cool way.
