Gaia will end in 2020 or 2021
I’m sure there’s a good number of readers who just can’t get enough of Gaia. But there’s probably an even larger number of people who are annoyed when long-form comics go on and on and on without an end in sight. For those, I have some good news:
Gaia will end in 2020 or 2021!
I currently don’t see why much more than about 250 pages should be necessary to bring the story to a satisfying conclusion. Maybe even 200 pages will be sufficient, we’ll see about that…
Of course there are always ways to prolong a story. For example, the heroes could explore Ysdar, the land of the elves. I’m sure this would offer many opportunities to introduce interesting characters and exciting adventures. But I fail to see how this would add anything meaningful to the main plot. Gaia is about Lilith and Viviana and their struggles, not about the reunification of humans and elves.
I will rather concentrate on tying up the loose ends of the story, such as Viviana’s visions, and bring it to a conclusion. However, I’ve had some trouble to come up with good ideas for two crucial scenes. This may result in a reduced update schedule or even a short hiatus if I failed to come up with something convincing in time.
I would totally love to see more stories set in this world. That said, Gaia is very clearly coming to the end of its story and I’m okay with that. Do what makes sense to give this story a proper ending and then let’s see where we go from there.

I agree with resolving a story. Stories need to be told, but they also have clear ending points. Discarding the end point for the sake of continuing the story doesn’t tend to end well. This has been a fantastic ride, and I am looking forward to its epic conclusion. And man, are we in the midst of “Whaaaaaaa????????” territory here.
Either the comic ends while it’s good or it continues on until it becomes a zombie franchise. Ending it is the right choice. Hopefully, you can start a new one if you feel like it.
Ending it when the story’s finished is the right thing to do, even if many will be sad to see the story ending. You can always flesh out the universe later, with short stories about characters and events if you like. (Tom Siddell’s been doing that in Gunnerkrigg Court to cover events that aren’t necessary for the main story, it’s been fun.) Nice thing about that is they don’t have to be epic long stories or even in the same time period, but expand the universe.
But simply ending a story and letting it stay ended is a lost art. Letting fans speculate about a particular universe is part of the fun. If every answer was given to us, it wouldn’t be nearly as satisfying.
I would like to vote for “end the story, continue the comics”. It’s better when stories have clear beginning and end, but the same is not true about universes. Try to make exploring Ysdar another story, starting after Gaia will end and at least partially independent, even if in comic time it would start before ending of the Gaia story.
I’ll be eagerly waiting for the sequel, lol.
I’ve read them all since day 1 i love it hope to see more eventually even after the conclusion

As the great authors knew once the chief villain is defeated, you either need a stronger villain, or the main character fades away. After all who is Sherlock without Moriarty? Who will Vivian and Lilith once Eldor is defeated.
End the chapter when it seems fit. Don’t drag it out. That said, feel free to to go and explore other aspects of the universe.
I quite like it when authors know where to end a story. Too many times stories keep going beyond their shelf life resulting in either increasingly wacky escapades and slow loss of the purpose as the princes is always in another castle or drawing the ending out to result in a much less satisfying conclusion. Unfortunately it happens more than it should often times because of monetary reasons (as each page or episode or arch produced is potential income after all)
Hopefully we will see the story to a gratifying conclusion and then get to enjoy a sequel or simply a new story in this wonderful universe that is Gaia. I’m sure there are countless stories worth telling and at least personally I really like the universe so I hope to see more after this story is over.
Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.
Let’s look forward for another couple years of awesome Gaia action and then see where it goes from there!
Personally I feel that there’s always more stories to be told for a world. For instance there’s Isaacs story. And then maybe there’s a story set fifty or a hundred years after this one. And also while the story seems to be pretty large area I wouldn’t necessarily say that it’s the whole world. It seems like maybe the story that is taking place on one continent. There hasn’t been any real like ocean journey type stuff talked about so maybe 100 years earlier than this on a different continent would be another thing to talk about. And it seems like everything is one to two weeks worth of travel apart and dragons can fly places in a day or so. I mean none of the Wizards flying on Dragon back seemed to have any packs or luggage, but people walking do.
This isn’t meant to be a criticism of the current story, I’m just saying there’s other places on this world which may have other character experiences. For example the writing of L. E. Modesitt(sp?), Anne McCafferty, Katherine Kurt’s, Robin Hobb or C.J. Cherryh. The last three built sets of books separated by time periods. Each time period had a unique set of characters and only tangentially referenced information from any of the other stories/time periods.
IMO, if it takes more than the 200-250 pages to conclude it, that’s fine, so long as there is a conclusion. 😉 And if you’d like, I’m sure many of us would enjoy other stories set in this world with these characters and/or new ones.
Like other commenters, I’ll be happy to see the story concluded (rather than dragging on indefinitely) but would welcome more tales set in the Gaiaverse.
That said, it’s nice to know we have more than a year’s worth of new Gaia pages still to come!
I also ask that more stories be set in this world. Maybe we don’t need Lilith, Viviana, Ilias, or the others for them, but I’d like to see them play cameos or small parts as we keep exploring the world.
But I would like to see Alissa and Ryn stories. They seem to work well together.
To take the best from both worlds, I think that after a story ends, a spin-off is in order. When you’ve done a lot to establish a world, sometimes you want resolution to things within the world, and not just within the story. As mentioned, there’s the unexplorable tunnel thing. Maybe this will be resolved in the main story, but if it’s not, that’s a sufficient cause for a spin-off.
The key to a good spin-off is NOT to include any of the original characters. That way, it doesn’t detract from their stories. From the main story. As much as is reasonable, explore elements of the world in a way that, at most, major events from the main story are mentioned in passing, but nothing is directly touched.
I very much believe that, at least in its current state, Gaia has a pretty good spin-off potential. Although it’s hard to say when there’s still 2 years for the main plot. For all we know, by the time it ends, we will have covered everything of interest.
Well, it could be the end of GAIA, but there is always room for another comic, that continiues the story where Gaia left of, spin-off, and so.
I like the universe, I like the characters, I like the story. I want it to go on. Maybe the next story starting the day after this one ends, maybe 20 years later. Maybe characters from Gaia are supporting characters, maybe they just make cameos as the new cast members visit and investigate something. I realize almost no one wants to make or read comics about the boring and mundane parts of life, which is most of it after a villain has been removed. But after warlords fall, the barons rise. Media, tech, industry, infrastructure… You kill a snake and release a hydra. When the overt barons fall, then come the seditious corrupters. The pursuit of their defeat brings out the real struggle: how to defeat corruption without becoming a warlord and perpetuating the cycle? And what do the 5- and 10-years-later pictures of that attempt look like?
And Vivi and Ilias are cute together! And Lili needs some character redemption after spending chapters as little more than soulless plot device! What would her life be like with her new knowledge and free will? And Alissa needs to hit Ryn at least 6 more times!
Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but as someone who generally reads comics for the characters rather than the plot, I have no particular opposition to exploring them further. Whether the current plot is better wrapped up before hand or not is, however, beyond my paygrade.
Please do create a sequel after finishing Gaia. 🙂
I agree with the general decision of ending this story, but as mentioned, there seems to be enough potential for multiple sequels to be created.
Sorry tó hear that. This is a good world / settings with awesome characters and The feeling is unique. Please continue !
