I honestly didn’t expect these reactions after the game got a 95% on Metacritic. I guess that shows how much a 10/10 is worth nowadays.

… ok, ok, I’ll look at what’s all this about … hmmm … is it because in game set in post-apocalyptic world with no shortage of zombie-like enemies most of the plot is about killing other people?

Nah, it’s about the same BS as always. People who loved the game claim that low reviews come from trolls and haters, and the game is being review-bombed, blaming it on the game being “inclusive”, “a female MC” or whatever reason to simply ignore criticism. People who hated the game claim that the critics’ almost perfect score has been bought by the studio and the game is not the shadow of their predecessor, watched through rose-tinted glasses, and those who disagree are morons and fanboys.

Having read them I have no desire to purchase or play the game.

I’d like to add to my own comment here, now that I’m a few hours into the game myself. It is me or the technical praise of the game is way beyond overrated? I mean, yes, enviroments and scenarios looks gorgeous, but the NPC AI and reactions to enviroment are at Skyrim levels (People walking against walls, jumping fences just next to the very much open door, NPC failing to notice the character with only glass between them as hideout, enemies losing “alarm” after a while, only to be scared again by the same corpses…) and the animations are repetitive as hell. There are like… two animations for stealth kills, with 4 lines of dialogue in total? And it is not only because of my playstyle; I’ve grabbed people from the back, the sides and the front (Still feels weird when the gun wielding npc turns meekly so you can put a knife next to his throat, after having murdered a bunch of his pals like that) and still get the “forearm under the chin and then stab-slash throat” everytime.

And my main issue with the in-universe storyline. If we’re several years down the original timeline, fresh infections should be rarer and rarer (since there are less people prone to be infected!), and more advanced cases of the disease more and more common… How come there are so many runners still around if they’re the first stages? Shouldn’t be clickers the “default” infected by now?
I just assumed that the 95% critic score was because of the game pandering to the common out of touch game critic’s love for misery porn and fake depth.
On second thought, they are all quite dead.
Honest review: The game is fun overall, combat horrible, animations minimal and often
Inappropriate, portrayal of soft core lesbian porn unacceptable, portrayal of pregnant women unacceptable, plot horrible and implausible, npc ai unhelpful and out right annoying, enemy ai and enemies unevolved, rpg style additions well done. My main issue with the game is the change in tone from father daughter to lesbian dyke. Yes dyke is a sexist word that should never be used but for a game that uses pregnant as a pejorative it is appropriate. If you liked the first one give this one a chance. If you did not like the first one or never played it do not bother. Why does this game get such glorious reviews? Graphics and Inclusion.
