Cloud, one of Sandra’s schoolmates, was first mentioned in this strip, but not actually shown. So, now you can see what he is looking like. Cloud is one of the main supporting characters of Sandra and Woo and will appear frequently in future strips.
- Ralph: Bad news for you, wimp. I’ve lost my mp3 player.
- Cloud: Oh, I’m sorry for you. But why is that bad news for me?
- Ralph: Cause I’m gonna take your instead, dimwit!
- Peter: Uh-oh, Ralph, as if it weren’t stupid enough to threaten Cloud… Haven’t you seen that he’s carrying a sword?
- Ralph: Moron! That’s not a sword; that’s only a plastic knife from the cafeteria!
- Ralph: Enough talk! Now hand over your mp3 player before things get ugly around here!
- Ralph: “Only” was maybe the wrong word…
SPOILER ALERT !!!!!
After already reading the strip about his little sister in bullying prevention class, I have to say that Cloud is harmless compared to her.
Reminds me of Riddick’s “teacup” and Hero (2002)‘s movie scene that talks about the highest ideal of swordsmanship, which I shall sum up: First, become one with the sword; second, to be one with your environment so that you can turn anything into a weapon; and third, to become one with everything so that “the desire for war is gone and only peace remains.”
This was the first time we were introduced to this bad ass. Oh how fast time has past
(sigh) In fiction, bullies are humbled and go away on their own, never to trouble our hero again.
In real life, they take their humiliation as a personal attack on their identity, and escalate to doing something even nastier to “balance the scales” as they see it. (Note that whatever they did or were trying to do to you weighs as almost nothing on their own personal retribution scales.)
