Yay! Proves yet again that part of a good hiding place is one people wouldn’t think of… in this case, because they think they’ve already looked there and found nothing.
That poor Tonberry being stabbed by Sep-i-oth…..
He must be tough, if he can take a Tonberry out D=
*gasp* IT’S NO-FACE! (wait, what?)
That guy seems like he’s handled Toberries before. Which is great and all, but each time I’d become more and more careful of their Grudge/Karma attacks . . .
Oh, yeah. Love the fact that this comic referenced Tonberries at all. 😀
Actually, we have no idea whether it’s a guy. Just, with all the comparisons of this “Ninja Rogue” to Sepiroth makes any possible indications of effeminacy (ponytail, for instance) to be expected (lolbishonen).
And before anybody else comes in saying how guys wearing ponytails are normal nowadays, this dude would be the first male in this comic to do so, versus two female main characters that have already done so . . .
. . . actually, maybe I’m overthinking this . . .
[EDIT BY NOVIL: MERGING OF TRIPLE POST]
@Yellow Mage.
Well the character does wear his/her ponytail low which is the way guy wear it (Girl wear it at the middle or at the top { like Sandra does}). Still one can never know.
So the question is if this is a sephinoth fill in : How hilariously funny his/her and Larisa panel would be ( I can see the fire already )
I said (commenting previous strip):
=> It is Yuna (99.99%)
I stand corrected. There is no chance, this could be her. According to the panel where Cloud removes the grating, the hole in the wall is located at a height of about one and a half child’s height.
This means our mystery guy is rather tall, which rules out Cloud’s teacher and mother as well. His Father would fit in size, but has no dark hair.
=> It is somebody we haven’t met yet (I do not dare to give a probability 😉 )
Macareux, Yuna is just walking on stilts!
not to steal your thunder or anything, but having a tonberry show up like that steps outside the bounds of your comic’s reality.
Talking animals are one thing but adding monsters adds implications to your universe that jar with some of the devices you’ve used thus far.
Great comic overall though. From one writer to another, good job.
@ Dr Aszy
I think Novil is just having fun with us, like when a shark jumped over Woo when he was in a river.
I wonder if he (she?) will share… yeah right! I should have thought of a secret comparmet! Bad guys always hide there stuff there and I always miss it! I like how you made him faceless so that the mystery isn’t revealed too soon. Amazing how he got a tomberry in one blow 8O.
I’m leaning towards thinking the new character is female.
1- There are a couple of panels where I -seem- to see the outline of breasts; but, that could also just be the coat’s lapel sticking out in those views. There is also at least one full frontal view where I -don’t- see a bosomy outline, but the pose could be hiding that.
2- She just seems to have an overall female look to her (to me).
Oh well… 🙂
What’s a Tonberry?
…*is immediately shot by the rest of the forum*
I’m with Iron Ed; I think our mystery Sephiroth’s a lady. Cloud’s mom, perhaps?
i not sure its a he, calling it right now the bandits kid 😛
I would guess the character is female.
Amazing Tonberry kill. xp?
Ninja Rouge?
I would like to know more about your D&D-system XD’
All Rouge-like-classes I know are Rouge, Asassin, Shadowdancer, Arcane Trickster, Epic Infiltrator and Perfect Wight.
Now that I think about it. Why are there no Ninjas in D&D? 😕
Maybe he/she is a gestalt character, Rouge/Monk? ^^
(Rouge/Monk would fit a Ninja most I guess…)
Now I’m also thinking it’s a girl, (The drawings somehow look female)
but I hoped Yuna would be more cute and whorled/lively(?) if you now what I mean.
(I kind of miss the right word to describe it)
Well, let’s see what happens next.
PS: Nice one with the Tonberry! XD
Did he/she just impale him with a stick? XDD”’
“Fatality. Flawless victory.” 😉
Anybody else wondering just how much strength it would take to drive a blunt wooden pole through the Tonberry and then hard enough into the wall that it makes those cracks that we can see? Because I’m seeing huge strength here.
someone- pull out oriental adventures or complete adventurer. but on that same mind, lets not geek this up with DnD.
so right now I’m thinking the shadowy figure is a new teacher/really tall student at the school and we are getting introduced to her/him now.
Well, this ‘mystery character’ could easily be Cloud’s mother – Ye Thuza. If you go back to strip 119 where you get a rather nice look at her face, decent depiction of hair length and a good sighting of her physical build you’ll see some semblances. To start with, the hair is a similar length that if pulled into a low ponytail would probably appear as such. Secondly, in 119 Ye Thuza doesn’t have a very defined chest it would seem… maybe her arm is in the way or something, but she appears to be lacking in that area.
However, as of right now there is a flaw I see in my own logic though that allow me to be open to the idea that this is someone completely new as well as my own prior idea that it might be Cloud’s father is such: though Ye Thuza has similar length hair she doesn’t not appear to have bangs in 119 as this person does.
I must say though, I took like the effect of giving them no face as to protect the secret for a bit longer and to keep the readers curious.. I also love the stances exhibited in this strip and the use of perspective… it’s all rather elegant/attractive yet strong, setting a great mood overall.
I… have absolutely no wild speculations to make whatsoever, and if I did, I’m pretty sure they’d be wrong. I’m just gonna sit back and let this little mystery unfold as it will.
@Someone
The D&D 3.5 sourcebook “Complete Adventurer” has a base class called Ninja that is very similar to a rogue, but focuses even more on stealth based abilities (some of which are supernatural and spell like abilities) as well as acrobatic stuff. I duno how this compares to the “Oriental Adventures” ninja, but I would assume it has a similar theme.
Despite having ruled her out in my previous post, I can’t help believing it’s Yuna. My instincts tell me, that the hole in the wall magically moved downwards while being off-screen.
=>logic vs. instinct fight (make it stop, novil, please 😉 )
@DKane: The tonberry probably only exists in her imagination, and so do the cracks
Hmmm it also looks like Larisa’s pronouncement from 124 is coming to pass…BTW, my vote is for a guy because any more female characters and we’re going to harem hell for sure 😛
I like the dark, edgy shadows in this strip.
@Flushmaster
Thx. First time I heared about that oô
I entered ninja here and found nothing:
http://www.d20srd.org/index.htm
And the site says it’s 3.5… what ever ^^’
@altengal: You want to avoid geeking up a webcomic comment thread? You… might be a bit misguided in that effort. If anything, D&D just makes it cooler.

You are probably expecting too much of Powree regarding her abilities to render the exact height of a character in two completely different perspectives. She does not have the time to redraw the whole character if (s)he’s turns out to be ten centimeters too small or large.
Blitzkrieg1701 says: I… have absolutely no wild speculations to make whatsoever, and if I did, I’m pretty sure they’d be wrong. I’m just gonna sit back and let this little mystery unfold as it will.
That’s probably the best thing to do.
it looks like a girl the way its drawn implies a female and it says ninja Rogue
for all you final fantasy XII fans who was the only number one preppy ninja
i’ll give you a hint it her name starts with a Y
my bad VII lol
Memory fails me; but…
I seem to recall a comment from Novil a few(?) strips back in this arc about seeing how far a parent would go to protect their child.
Iron Ed says: Memory fails me; but…
I seem to recall a comment from Novil a few(?) strips back in this arc about seeing how far a parent would go to protect their child.
Really? I can’t remember that…
is that the question!?!?!
Its a chick look at her figure and her face shape
She’s a lady, woah woah woah, she’s a lady….
@someone: The Ninja is a class in D&D – the problem may be that you searched only certain rulebooks – the Ninja only appears in the oriental setting and Complete Adventurer.
Oh, and btw – now that we know where the treasure is, do we get to find out where the mystery character hid the launch codes for the nuclear missiles? I believe Larissa said something about those…
Oh, wait – I think I figured out how the mystery character managed to kill the tonberry – Multiclass ninja/rogue = extra stealth plus extra sneak attack damage…
Is it getting geeky in here, or is it just me? 😀

Novil says: Really? I can’t remember that…
Okay, I give up. I just spent 3+ hours looking at every comment in this arc (including the hidden ones) and every comment by Novil in the previous arc…
-I can’t find it either!- …please don’t tell me I’ve started having ‘Sandra & Woo’ dreams. 🙂
8D Tornberry!!!!!
@Hobbes
I see… the site I searched has only the basic rules plus psionic rules.
(and some variants)
This explains why I didn’t find other classes and races I knew from somewhere else 😕
(like Favored Soul for example)
Also to your double post:
It says Lv 20 Ninja Rouge, so it’s not multiclass but maybe a gestalt-character, which means leveling in 2 classes at the verry same time.
Look here what I mean: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/gestaltCharacters.htm
So he/she is a Ninja/Rouge gestalt character and I don’t think this gives additional bonus sneaking damage (since classbonuses overlap that way, or am I wrong?)
But Ninjas are able to use Ki similar to a Monk.
Maybe that’s how she killed the Tonberry in one move…
Geeky enough for your taste? 😛
@Iron Ed
Sandra & Woo dreams?
As long as you’re not kissing racoons, you’re fine 😛
Although i’ve read every page of Sandra and Woo; I am yet to figre out who does the art, and who does the script?
I’d love to know.
@Jesus…
Oliver does the script; Powree does the art.
…Both are really, reeeaalllyyyy good at it too! 🙂
u know what i just noticed …. he just STABBED a TONBERRY with a STAFF … not a sword … a STAFF !!! … hes DEFINITLY gonna be the Sephiroth for Cloud in this comic … and what does he want with the bug bag if the prize he wants is CLEARLY still in the vent ?
Someone says: Also to your double post:

You are clearly overthinking this.
Look! a dead body! 😀
This comic is now complete. :3
Novil says: You are clearly overthinking this.
I’m always overthinking everything 😛
Shark sighted dead ahead! Ramming speed!
@DominicanKing614: She’ll probably dump out the bag and then use it to carry out the treasure. Then she’ll go sell it and buy a bunch of pizza, candy corn, rope, bear traps, parachutes, paper clips, and doorknobs, so that she can build a doomsday device and conquer the world on a full stomach.
I’m beginning to think that some readers have such astronomical expectations regarding the resolution at the end of this storyline that they will be slightly disappointed by the next strip…
POOR TONBERRY! HE LOOKED LIKE HE WAS JUST ENJOYING A TASTY BEVERAGE THEN BAM DEATH BY STICK.
TONBERRY DEFEATED!
Mysterious Figure: +2 Exp
(Low exp gain because he’s such a high level.) :p
Also, the round object is a lantern, not a soda can, though M.F. would probably have killed it on its lunch break anyway. :3
its sandra’s mother. lols just kiddin. i know she’s already died. But how bout if she’s actually not died? lols
