There are now six new poll which appear randomly in the right sidebar.
Concerning me personally, this behavior was not a real tic, but an occasionally self-imposed challenge to make particularly boring walks a little less boring. Which I eventually outgrew when my step width was becoming too big for the tiles of Nuremberg’s pavements.
I strongly prefer my volume controls (and any other control unit) to be set to multiples of 2 or 5, though.
- Woo: Why are you trying not to step on the cracks between the tiles?
- Sandra: I don’t do that!
- Woo: Are you sure? You’re still walking in this weird pattern…
- Sandra: My next pet will be a goldfish!

Oooh! I’m 21 and I still do this too! xD
Does Woo not get recognized for being human-esque walking like that…?
This is the ‘Sandra and Woo’ I love.
Ah, it’s good to see Woo again 😀
Also, anyone else out there avoiding the cracks for no reason? 😀
Yay, that`s Sandra and Woo as good as it gets!
get it? Get it?
I used to do that, but I’ve since outgrown such childish tendencies. Now I avoid stepping over cracks.

People likely assume he is trained, or he doesn’t walk like that if other humans are around
OMG IT’S WOO! I ALMOST FORGOT WHAT HE LOOKED LIKE!!!
I’ve got a similar tick myself: I can’t help but mimic people around me, and when it comes to walking I will match their footsteps
Finally, the purpose of the title of the webcomic is back!
Very funny, hope to see more!
I still do this! I agree, it makes walking less boring. There’s no reason to deny or be embarrassed by it Sandra.
Yay! Back to Sandra and Woo!
Oh yeah, I do this too. I also feel like I’ve somehow screwed up if I set both feet down in the same tile.
I am glad to see Sandra and Woo again– and I do think that, thinking on it, I have found myself not stepping on cracks while walking. Weird.
It’s called pattern walking, and a lot of people with ASDs do it. XKCD had a great strip about it a few years back. 🙂
I was missing woo, but I really did love the last storyline!
BTW, can he talk in public? seems odd to say the least!
lol i do that too…not sure why though
@ Draco Blair:
It’s me who do that too. 😀
@ Draco Blair:
I sometimes still do. It’s simply because it looks better and seems more orderly.
I have AS and some OCS, and I do that, but I know why I do it. It’s because when I step on a line, or anything else irregular, my foot feels it, and the sensation lingers, and then I have asymmetry — one foot feels something and the other doesn’t. So then I have to step on something with the other foot to balance them.
I also notice homonyms obsessively, but for some reason I never noticed tick/tic before 🙂
Every time I see a “Step on a crack…” reference, Devo’s “Whip It” always comes to mind. When it does I always think about where did the whole “Step on a crack, break your mother’s (momma’s) back” myth/superstition came from. Anyone know?
HORRAY! Sandra and Woo!
OMG I rly needed these cute, short, and funny stories today.
The last story was awesome! I hope this one is, too!
it never seems silly untill someone points it out…
I do that. I also don’t like to put both feet on the same slab. But if there’s a manhole or something, I HAVE to step on it.
Yeah, I think I may have an OCD or two.
I still do that too. It’s a habit now, it drives me crazy to step on any cracks at all, even sealed ones in my school’s floor.
I only avoid the cracks if I’m bored enough to pay attention to it. It just gives me something to think about rather than “Oh, hey, I’m walking.”
Also, Sandra, I second your choice of pet. Goldfish are surprisingly fun to watch. I believe I once stared at my aquarium for an hour. Kind of a weird time-warp occurred or something.
I do this all the time
and then I notice
and then I think “no, I don’t care, I’ll stomp on cracks” and stomp in 2 or three on purpose, after that I start avoiding them again xD
I’ve hit more poles doing that.
Oh, Woo! how i’ve missed you!
Knowing this comic, this is going to turn into an arc about her having OCD or something.
Not bitter, just sayin’
Still, yaaay update!
if the old adage of “step on a crack, you break your mothers back” is true, then that wench better schedule a trip to the chiropractor.
Oh yes! Sometimes I do this too and I’m 22 XD
I’m not sure but I think that even has a real name
Here in Germany I know it as “Käsekästchen” but that’s acually the name of an other game you may know as “dots and boxes” and that’s not what I mean…
A literal translation would be “Cheesecasket” 😕 *sigh* doesn’t help either…

ah… saw your comment while writing mine XD
so it’s pattern walking…
But what is ASD? When I enter it in wikipedia I get “: AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe”…
I’m quite sure that’s not what you had in mind 😕
Oh, and the comic from xkcd. you mean this one? http://xkcd.com/245
I believe that by “ASDs”, he may mean autistic spectrum disorders. But don’t quote me.
*Vanishes once more*
It seems I am not the only one who does this 😀
i always put my feet on the cracks. my stride usually ends up so either same foot always lands on them or it alternates with every block. i don’t purposely adjust it…most of the time
Cute idea and art. Nice one.
walking upright. bet he could drive a little car to.
I’m not that bad with cracks on sidewalks. I more have this problem: http://xkcd.com/245/
Glad to see Woo again. 😀
Wow, I’m the exact same way with my volume controls.
Every now and then, colored tiles make walking fun for me. :3
I don’t do this. Instead, I step over cracks only if they are parallel to my feet. So I’ll always be walking at the edge of the sidewalk, weaving back and forth to avoid cracks.
I also have another thing I do, but it’s kind of hard to explain.
I’d like to see her do this in Portuguese pavement. At least it has two colours, so when we were kids we had use the colours to guide ourselfs. And I still do that…
@ Robin:
me too XD
I also walk like that at times.

I have this with my hands alot, especially if i get something like water on just one hand. weirdest feeling, then i have to run my hands under water to get them to feel the same.
@ nitro:
her mom is already dead
I used to pretend the cracks were lava pits. And then I got that period of time in which I tried to only step on the cracks. XD
Long time no see, Woo ñ_ñ
Urgh. I feel like a bit of a heel for saying this, but having Tourette syndrome and doing this myself, coupled with the OCD aspect of that, I feel compelled to point out that the unconscious repetitive physical action is called a TIC, while the blood-sucking insect is the tick. This probably doesnt bother anyone else, and thats fine, I just cant shake the thought of people talking about having ticks, which is often a lot more serious (and gross) than having tics.
Who doesn’t do that even today? I know I still feel weird if I step on them. XD
Sometimes I get frustrated when I step on a line lol.
