The current story arc started with this strip: Dinner.
- Rocky: How did you manage to escape?
- Sid: Well, there are some exceptionally stupid predators out there…
- Mixi: Did you get something, honey?
- Xor: Yeah.
- Mixi: What?
- Xor: A smacking.

Sad thing is I had to read 3 times before I comprehended.
Hilarious! We need to see these stupid predators more!
Mess with the best… get whacked like the rest
And now I feel sad for the second predator’s family, since he’s too stupid to gather food for them.
Ah well, that’s the circle of life.
Just been thinking, and I don’t mean this impolitely, but do Shadow’s children count as “stupid predators”?
@ Frank:
I’m pretty sure they’d know best them to stupidly bark at a squirrel on a tree
Last time I wondered if the predator duo also met at Heather’s… now I’m sure. They probably survived the same way, on the very basic training from their mothers and natural talent getting them far enough to learn the rest over time.
Wait… so the first wolf ran head-first into the tree Sid climbed onto, I guess. What about that second one? The critter chasing Shadow doesn´t look like a wolf, more like a maskless and stripeless raccoon.
Xor should count himself fortunate he didn’t end up on a dinner plate with his backup busy barking up Sid’s tree. If Tor and Xor had stuck together, Xor would have been able to throw Sid down. Divide, conquer, play on their weaknesses.
With hunting skills diminished by near-domestication and free cookies, Shadow must rely on his cunning to survive. But a little teamwork never hurts and unconventional social networking can catch the competion by surprise.
Er, Zor and Xor.
Geeze. That wasn’t even close.
@ Sir Chaos:
There were two wolfs? I only saw one and that badger thing in the previous comic…
Anyway, I’m not sure if Sid is quite telling the truth… I have my doubts.
But hey, I would love two “stupid predator” characters.
I had to read the second tier of the strip a couple of times before I figured out what had befallen Xor. Shadow looked back and realized the predator was smaller than he was.
Claws and teeth only get you so far. I read a book of prey-predator interactions once and predators generally attack things _much_ smaller than they are. Maybe 1/3rd their body weight.
They’ll avoid anything close to a “fair” fight since even minor injuries might hinder their ability to hunt — and that’s the beginning of a downwards (and possibly fatal) spiral.
Very cool scenes
Thanks for the smiles
chasing the wrong prey LOL~ haha~
Gotta love the second panel.
Also, Shadow’s kid is named Rocky? Neat. Also, with Zor and Xor, I’m not sure how to pronounce them… are they both pronounced “zohr”?
Maybe if they thought about the size difference and had Xor chase Sid, they might have been more successful, at not being humiliated that is :).
I just read aaaaaaaaall strips, from the beggining to the very last one. It’s absolutely amazing, I love it so much.
Ps.: I SO want a Racoon as a pet. ………. A talking racoon.
I want to see both Zor and Xor more (including Mixi), they looks like a fun group of comic reliefs, and Mixi cheerfulness reminds me of the Flintstones where Fred and Barney greeted happily by their wives only to be greeted back with Fred angry mumbles about stuff.
And it will be going to be fun if the four predator meets up, I can imagine Zor and Xor voices like classic black and white American Gangster movies characters, Shadow will sound like the sly Mr. Fox (maybe with a British accent? kind of a stretch since he’s an American Fox) and Woo will sounds like… I’m not sure, I need to hear more cartoon voice actors.
So, any plan for print version of Sandra and Woo?
Are Xor and Mixi ermines, or some other sort of weasel?
@ AckAckAck: Keeping a raccoon in real life is supposed to be very hard and time-consuming. I don’t know about the talking variety and don’t expect to find out any time soon 🙂
Is that a sort of pun in the third panel? For clarity, check how wolf is written in russian.
Only thing better than stupid predators are stupid criminals.
Being a successful predator can be very difficult. For example, most young red-tailed hawks die before the end of their first winter because they haven’t learned how to successfully hunt and kill every day. And when they do reach adulthood and find mates, their first nesting attempts are often failures. In real life, “exceptionally stupid predators” don’t live long.
@ Sir Chaos:
The point of the second part is that a predator is chasing something twice its size; shadow realizes this and gives him a beating
@Novil
Will we ever see Zor and Xor again?
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahaha, how stupid can you be?
Bwahahaha! That’s almost what I thought ^^
Sid is kidding with the wolf and Shadow is like:
“Oh my, oh my…hey, (!)wait a second… is it just the marten running after me?…” *SMACK!* XD
pure win!
You know, I love this comic, but something is bugging me. I would swear I remember something about a raccoon-owning little girl and her friends, but its been so long, I can’t be sure. 🙂
Demotivator pic of the whole strip:
Know your limitations.
You’re doing it wrong. XD
@ Amberblaze77:
I think they’re supposed to be martens. Uncharacteristically social ones.
Cute icon, what’s it from?
One team against another team. Just that one team is ALL predators. Ya, not very smart when the wolf goes for the smaller meal and the weasel goes for the larger meal.
like how the weasel rides the wolf as they go out hunting. If only they knew how to catch their meals.
AND NOW YOU KNOW THE REST OF THE BACKSTORY!
Think Xor and Zor should have switched prey.
As always a lovely comic
@ Tualha:
The icon is from Full Metal Alchemist, the character portrayed is Edward Elric.
Oh yeah, I recognize him now. Thanks 🙂
They are tough alright !!
I didn’t know that shadow is that powerful..
@ Hornet:
And I quote from the comic: Well, there are some exceptionally stupid predators out there…
Wah wah wah waaaaaaah!
Wow, read this comic in two days!! hope the series isn’t drawing to an end 🙁
I love the third panel, with Sid just relaxing in a tree eating a nut and, I’m asuming ,dropping the shells on the wolf.
Who dosn’t get a Smacking every once in a while?
@ Sir Chaos:
Not sure about the wolf running into the tree but the other predator is a marten.
Read the whole story! Don’t just start with the last one. You’ll get confused.
Hint: read the tags for info.
Heh. How’d eating Sid work out for you?
3rd panel is why dogs chase squirrels, they like to tease the poor dogs. I’ve seen them steal food from the dog’s dish then run. By law you have to keep your dog under control or restrained but squirrels run free everywhere. And for those who don’t know what a marten is think weasels.
As I look over panels 4 and 5, I can’t help but imagine that the two predators engage in a very Looney Toon-esque scene where they gradually slow down and become aware of the incongruity of their chase, Shadow’s expression becoming more sinister while Xor’s becomes increasingly panic-stricken, until finally, the entire scene goes into all out reverse, with Shadow chasing the diminuitive little bugger until it ends in a cloud of cartoon violence.
@ Frank:
They’re neither chasing a squirrel up into a tree they can’t get to, nor chasing somebody twice their size.
Xor seems to be a …. ferret and since i’m rus i can’t help but notice that in Translit ferret would be a Xorek =P
@ Gamesman:
@ Tualha:
@ Someone:
@ Seeker:
It’s a stoat, not a marten – it has the black tailtip. This indicates that it’s winter (which it is right now).
@ Hiyu:
Okay, I think I was wrong (too large for a stoat, plus it’s just the black and white style, and there’s the nose patch too).
Why did he not see a beating coming? Chasing foxes is highly-likely to lead to the fox at least fighting back. Or trying to…
