Before anyone asks: I did not get money from Heinz for this strip. Sandra and Woo will be updated three times this week, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Unfortunately, Sandra and Woo lost the final round of the Webcomic Tournament 2013 at ComicMix. But we have certainly gotten a couple of new readers by getting this far in the contest. So I want to thank everybody for the amazing support of our comic in the first six rounds. Powree and I will continue to give our best to create a funny and innovative comic strip for you.

Wait, you lost? You had 54% of votes by the time the votes closed. :/
A pity you didn’t…ketchup to the competition.
…I’ll escort myself out.
The punchline is alcoholism.
Nice Andy Warhole reference. Nice to see that they are all a little bit different.
@ danm36:
I can’t get to game details, but Sandra and Woo won the regular poll, but lost due to paid votes.
@ kassiopeia:
I believe his name was Warhol(?)…
At first when I saw the bottles, I thought they were just repeats of the same thing. Look closer and you’ll see small differences. Drawing the same thing 4 times would drive me crazy, but this is just awesome! You have a lot of patience 😀
______
Wait, S&W lost? Last time I checked we were still ahead of the other webcomic. This is an outrage! T_T
@ Petah-Petah:
Oh wait, that says Heinz, not Heineken. Thought those were bottles of beer.
My bad.
Life is like a bottle of tomato sauce. It took a rigorous amount of shaking and frustration to get the good thing out. Then you pass it to someone else.
………..
Okay, that’s a bad analogy :/
it says this was posted on the first of April but today’s the 31of march.??????
@ BoA:
They live in a timezone where it is already monday
@ BoA:
In Germany (UTC+2 [DST]) it’s already April 1st.
Worst Andy Warhol impersonation, ever! 😉
@ AckAckAck:
Do the bottles say “Soy Sauce” in Russian? ???
“But the final winner of the contest, the last strip standing… making up a huge deficit at the end with $648 to $105.50 in paid votes, making the final score 2238-1018… the winner of the 2013 Mix March Madness Webcomics Tournament is Bittersweet Candy Bowl!”
It sure is interesting to see the number of payments each comic got! Sandra and Woo is 3rd in payments at a Total $416.50. Ava’s Demon and BCB both had more donations than Sandra and Woo. BCB had a total of $1,075.00 in donations . . . which is more than a quarter of the total raised! Simply mind-boggling! Oh the top three basically provided half of the donations!
@ Grimoire:
Revenge votes from Ava’s Demon.
@ david houston:
You are right. It astonished me the first time I saw picture. But then I remembered it’s April 1st, and somehow it all made sense… or not?
Soooo… soy sauce. Was there a reason for it to be soy sauce and not, say, tabasco?
Gunmage wrote:
Well, Heinz Tabasco is just “Hot and Spicy Ketchup” so…
The cthulu translation Is: cyoc nibeoc znieh and each of them Still take eons to come out of their respective bottles till you eyeball em.
@ david houston:
I thought that I gone crazy, seeing Russian in Sandra and Woo, but it seems that I’m not and it’s really Russian.
im beginning to wonder if they are really gonna post new comics on monday, wednesday, and friday. i mean, it is april fool’s day

Yeah, one case where revenge actually did something good ($$ to charity.) Still, a pity that people have to react in such a manner. Looking at the forums there was like watching a sports bar full of people when somebody walks in with the wrong jersey on, it was ugly! I… will likely avoid the ComicMix website due to the open hostility of people there.
Now, those who paid because it was for charity and they liked the comic… to that I say right on!
Gatonom wrote:
Ah, so it was just like an American election: Money talks.
@ Moxie Man:
Money also “talked” when S&W made it into the finals in a similar way. This whole charity scheme was a rather bad idea to begin with.
Either make the contest depend on votes, or on donations (or possibly make two contests for each), but doing both at the same time is like begging for controversy. And guess what happened?
ComicMix definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. I doubt I will be ever visiting that website again. Though, I do admit if it wasn’t for this contest, I would probably never went there in the first place.
*pats* it’ll be alright friend
@ danm36:
It is easy just like how Modest Medusa lost to Bitter Sweet Candy Bowl, people bought a ton of votes this whole thing was stupid, it was more who could pay more than who got more votes
Soy sauce? Apologies for the ketchup pun then. I saw ‘Heinz’ and I made some assumptions…
Should I be getting something here?
Nice April Fools joke! Sorry you lost but I was glad to see you beat Ava’s Demon who basically bought their way past another favorite of mine Grrl Power. If you check you’ll see the winner had the highest paid votes by a huge margin. Not exactly a “fair” contest at least in my eyes. This comic is one of the few of my favs that didn’t get knocked out early.

What with webcomics and their rabid fans huh? It’s like going to a video game forums :/

I still go there, but I will avoid several places there.
@ ieatapples:
You’re right. It’s Warhol. Not Warhole, oops, my bad. Andy Warhol painted the cans of Campbell Soup tons of times. All in the pursuit of fame.
I know it’s supposed to be an April Fool joke, but I still don’t get it.
I considered voting in spite of the fact that self-selected polls are worthless, but when I realised that votes could be bought, I realised it was less than worthless. I know what I like and I like Sandra & Woo! Polls can go insert into their own orifices. 😉
I don’t get the strip, can someone explain it to me or tell me what the joke is supposed to be
I SAY! what IF, S&W won the contest but novil and powree are pulling our legs till tom? …….i hope >__o
*tomorrow…pardon me!@ Gooblessings:
Dat Andy Warhol. It was only a matter of time!

Heinz can make and sell something very similar to Tabasco Sauce if they want, but they can’t call it ‘Tabasco’ because that’s a brand name trademarked to McIlhenny Co.

Money talks, but that doesn’t work unless people are listening. If you have two plausible candidates (each by their own party’s judgement), a substantial difference in money spent on the campaign (and when in the process the money is spent) can make a lot of difference. There are also quite a number of cases where an individual with a lot of money has spent a lot more than their opponents and got only got a small percentage of the vote.
Почему по-русски? Почему соевый соус? Вообще что за фигня?!?!
А так поздравляю что дошли до финала!
Не проигрывает только тот, кто не соревнуется…
Translation:
Why in Russian? Why Soy Sauce? What the heck?!?!
Anyway, congratulations on reaching the final!
The one who never loses is the one who never competes.
Do you know what this means? Do you? Do you? Dooo yooou?
I don’t have time to read all the comments so someone may have already said this, but what if this was posted to see how much people can draw from it? An to see hoe much discussion 4 images of the same thing can create?
… is it an april fools joke?
If you ask me, they simply said “let’s draw the most nonsensical item we can find in a sort of Warhol homage/parody, and then amuse ourselves with all the wild suppositions this will generate amid the readers”.
So far it seems to be working – we’re racking our brains to find meaning where there is none, which makes this a rather effective, if abstruse, April Fools joke.
And yes, I did take the time too look it up – that is indeed a very good representation of what a Heinz Soy Sauce receptacle looks like in Russia, and not only that, but it’s a rather recent redesign (December 2012) and found only in this particular market. See here: http://www.behance.net/gallery/Heinz-Soy-redesign/6419445
As for the contest, I can’t say I’m surprised at the outcome, the whole voting system looked kind of fishy from the beginning with all the vote buying and whatnot. Sure I understand why they did it this way, but it completely removes any fairness from the “contest” part. The comparisons with the electoral system are spot on, methinks.
I have to say I lost a lot of respect for S&W, with Noliver complaining about only when it’s in his disfavor (such as the 19 votes XKCD got, but not mentioning over 100 when up against AD).
One comment he made at the Mix March Madness forum was that it was ‘even in this regard’ because XKCD had gotten paid votes. Two wrongs does not equal one right, even if S&W had lost to XKCD over money S&W buying a victory over AD does not make things even for anyone but S&W by that logic.
At least XKCD and AD never complained about anything (they didn’t even mention things on their front pages). There’s nothing wrong with front page advertisement, but there is something wrong with complaining about a splinter of 19 votes then giving a limp excuse for why it’s ok to have 1-2 hundred votes bought, and then complaining when it happens to them.
Still S&W and Gaia are great comics, and this kind of drama happens to a lot of people a lot of the time. Will still read of course and wish these comics the best.
Hmmm, seems he didn’t complain or even mention that BCB did the same thing, nevermind, sorry for that mistaken observation. Also Noliver did say that he disliked the voting system a couple of days ago, so respect for that.
But yes, there’s nothing even about that system. One either has to accept the monetary influence as a regrettable but legitimate side effect for all parties or reject it entirely.@ cwDeici:
Russian soy sauce? This has to have something to do with Larissa! But what? Time (and Thursday) will tell.
Whatta… a bottle with “soy sauce” in russian… i’m pretty much confused.
Откуда у автора эта бутылка? Индонезия же совсем в другой стороне!
How did you get a russian bottle of sauce?!
for a second I thought iI saw screen tearing
