Announcing: Posters for fans
Usually, the biggest fans support the creator(s) of their favorite “thing” by buying merchandise. However, we here at Sandra and Woo are known to do things a little differently once in a while. Therefore, I want to announce my “Posters for fans” initiative. I selected 30 of our biggest fans (not including Gaia) whom I will send several Sandra and Woo posters and prints! For free! To any place in the world, unless you’re living on Tristan da Cunha.
I selected the following people:
- 15 readers from our English website with the most and best rated comments:
- AckAckAck
- Ambi (aka AmbiValent)
- Blitz (aka Blitzkrieg1701)
- Crestlinger
- Deko
- ekimmak
- frank
- Greenwood Goat
- illeatyourself
- Iron Ed
- Petah-Petah
- Random
- Someone
- Strife
- tahrey
- 6 readers from our German website with the most and best rated comments:
- DaB.
- kai
- MAT
- Moatl
- R.J.R
- Sara
- 6 donators who made the largest donations and are not already included above
- 3 extra slots for otherwise noteworthy fans:
- Willie O’ Brien (aka Birone)
- Garrett Williams
- (Anonymous)
I plan to send them two A1 prints on thick poster paper and a couple of A3 and A4 prints on thick normal paper.
All recipients should answer the following questions. I will use the result of the poll to determine which subjects I should put on the prints.
- For the A1 prints, give 3 points (top favorite) to 1 point to your three favorites from the following list:
- The Book of Woo (the four manuscript pages arranged in a 2×2 grid)
- Composition with Red, Blue and Woo
- Lazy Summer Day
- The Woo
- The Suspect
- For the A3 and A4 prints, give 5 points (top favorite) to 1 point to your five favorites from the following list:
- Lazy Summer Day
- The Woo
- A Dark and Stormy Night (the last panel without Sandra’s word bubble)
- The Fire Girl (including the word bubble)
- Sandra’s Scream (including the second panel)
- The Suspect
- Moonlight Sonata
- Woo Loves Lily
- Food Chain
- Freedom! Justice! Cookies!
Here is more information for the recipients:
- All of you will receive the same prints! No exceptions are possible since a print run of 25 or more copies significantly reduces the price for each one and it would also result in much more work for me.
- All prints will be signed and numbered. I will also write two one-liners from Sandra and Woo or one one-liner and one dedication on the backside of two prints. You can choose the text I should write (which mustn’t be longer than one word bubble). Otherwise I will randomly select one or two one-liners from Sandra and Woo that are funny or clever on their one. Our readers AckAckAck and Blitz will receive the two A1 prints numbered 1/30. Greenwood Goat will receive a special sequence of numbers.
- If I’m not able to reach one of the 30 selected fans or if one of them is not interested, the total number of prints will be reduced. However, I hope that at least 25 fans will be interested since I will print at least 25 copies.
- Please don’t expect me to send the prints before 30 September. But I’ll give my best to send them before 31 October.
- If you want to cover some of my expenses, e.g. the expensive shipping costs to the U.S., please check the e-mail which I will send you in a couple of minutes. However, I don’t expect to receive any money from you. It’s a gift for your continued support!
That’s some pretty sweet gifts. Too bad I don’t comment that often, even though I have been lurking the comic on a weekly basis since I discovered it (217-Second Chances).
I have tried to be more active lately though! 🙂
What’s a dedication? I just want to make sure that I know what I need to write.

The shortest form of a dedication would be something like: “For ekimmak from Oliver”
Hmm, so far I received no feedback at all. No wonder we couldn’t sell any merchandise when there doesn’t even seem to be much interest in free signed posters among our most dedicated readers…
@ Novil:
Well, at the moment, I’m having trouble deciding which A3/4 pages I want the most. Managed to cut it down to 6, but it’s hard to decide between that.
… I didn’t even realize there was merchandise.
WOW!!! 🙂
You haven’t heard from me because I just a couple of minutes ago saw this on the S&W site! (I have not received any email from you.) And I normally do read your editorial(?) stuff below the comic; I promise. 🙂
THANK YOU SO MUCH! This is a big surprise and a very NICE one!
Iron Ed
@ Iron Ed:
So where should we answer these questions? Post them here? Email them to you somewhere?
Novil, maybe it will help to add a little “text space” under the current and the next comics for a while, and remove them after a week or two (so as not to keep it in the Archives when they are not needed)? After all, the most active frequenters usually look at the comics themselves, not at comic transcripts like we silent readers. =)
I am impressed by your pre-calculated, honed, targeted way of making something good and unusual — and all those adjectives were used in their best meaning, Olivier! =) Only Germans do that, and seeing such a style in its best application is very nice!
Erm… I really need to learn how to describe something more efficiently in English.
*text space: an extension of a comic image that includes a text and is located below the comic frames; its aim is to attract attention to other key points that are located below the image

Damn. I have resent all e-mails in a different way now. I hope all of you will receive it now.
“Greenwood Goat will receive a special sequence of numbers.”
This makes me curious about the numbers. A geeky reference in those numbers, perhaps?
Composition gets a 3, The Woo gets a 2, and the Book of Woo gets a 1.
Out of the rest of them, I don’t think I can decide. XD
Moonlight Sonata gets a 5, Freedom, Justice, Cookies gets a 4 I think, A Dark and Stormy Night gets a 3, Sandra’s Scream gets 2, and either The Fire Girl or The Suspect as a 1.
I am HONESTLY surprised that I am managing to win this stuff. Now I just have to figure out where to put them in my room. XD
For the poster sizing for those who may need the info (it is metric and VERY precise from what I found) A1: 60.0 X 84.6 centimeters (cm) total area with a 0.6cm edge in bring the dimensions of the actual poster design to 59.4 X 84.0 cm. For A3 it’s 29.7 X 42.0cm and for A4 it’s 21.0 X 29.7cm for the actual poster dimensions.
My votes are as follows A1:
The Suspect (1 point to Hufflepuff),
The Book of Woo (2 points to Ravenclaw),
Composition with Red, Blue and Woo (3 points to Gryffindor).
My votes for the A3/A4 ones:
Woo Loves Lily (1 point earth)
A Dark and Stormy Night (5 points fire)
Sandra’s Scream (3 points wind)
Moonlight Sonata (4 points water)
The Suspect (2 points heart)
Quote, etc to follow upon vote tally (and rereading of all +500 comics to hunt ^^)
@ Novil:
Ah-HA! I have discovered what MY problem is! 🙂 Oliver; I have found your notes (both of them) and will respond very shortly. Thank you!
It seems that way-back-when I first registered with the S&W site I used an id that I rarely check any more. When I enter an email address to post a comment now I use my regular daily id. You sent your note to my old registration id and today is the first day I’ve had my brain awake enough to think of checking the old one. Anyway; the whole mix-up is obviously my fault and I do apologize for causing your confusion!
I’ve been working like crazy this month and Almost lost this, thanks for the e-mail or I would have missed this….I will respond very shortly, until the end of this week.
So far I have just received 9 complete replies. 1 wasn’t interested. 1 e-mail to a donator bounced and I have no other contact address.
I should be able to send my reply by tonight.
@ Novil:
Is mine one of the nine? 🙂
Man, I feel like kind of a jerk for not noticing this was happening for as long as I did. SORRY!!!
@ ekimmak:
Oops. I may have forgotten to send them.
Well….After a long week and some work DONE……E-mail sent…
I hope everything is fine
I visit your site every day. By using the URL http://www.sandraandwoo.com, I am taken to the latest strip.
What URL do I use to do the same on mangamagazine.net? Right now I have to navigate through the title page, to the chapter, to the latest page.
God Bless, and may this new arrangement be financially fruitful for you.

Congrats to the legendary fans who have been reading for a long time, good to see an author that rewards loyalty 🙂 I discovered this comic fairly recently and I’m hooked on the great writing and excellent illustrations, can’t wait to see what the future will bring!
@ Novil: Hi! I’m sorry! I haven’t been able to be on my computer much the last few days.
I was wondering, where did the ‘donate’ button run off to? (or the ‘shop’ button?) I want to help with the last bullet point
Ooh, blimey, and there’s me having been on holiday and not checking my email since the 19th… I’m honoured, but will have to maybe wait til -this- weekend to deal with it properly as I only just spotted this by chance whilst sneaking in a catch-up on a coffee break 😀
Oh dang, I didn’t realize this existed until today.
Anyway, as for point giving (assuming I can still do that):
3 pts: The Book of Woo
2 pts: Composition with Red, Blue and Woo
1 pt: Lazy Summer Day
5 pts: A Dark and Stormy Night
4 pts: The Fire Girl
3 pts: Moonlight’s Sonata
2 pts: Sandra’s Scream
1 pt: Lazy Summer Day
Regarding one-liners, just take one from Cloud and another one from Larissa.
Riiiight…
First up, dedication … I’ll have to email back with PowerWord!RealName along with my postal address. I don’t use the “tahrey” handle IRL at all (certainly not since at least 10 years ago), and so it would cause confusion and embarrassment amongst my peers should they see it (…and/or google it). Not least because last year, 15+ years after dreaming it up from whole cloth, I found it also happens to BE a Real Name. For the opposite gender. Oops.
(That or “blank, for your own use” so I can write in someone else’s and give it as a present 😀 … nah, that’d just be cheeky)
Quotes … you do as you see best, at least at this point. If I find myself with an unexpected glut of free time I’ll scoot back through the archives and see if I can pick one or two, and include those when I find and respond to the email (it will have ended up in my secondary account, and thus may need some digging to retrieve). Otherwise I’ll just end up with “Pizza left on the school dinner tray: Life is good. No slices of pizza left: Life is suffering. – Sandra North, 2012ish”. 😀 😀
As for the picture votes…
A1:
Twah pwah: Composition with Red, Blue and Woo
Duh pwah: The Book of Woo
Un pwah: Lazy Summer Day
A3/A4:
Sink pwah: Moonlight Sonata
Cat’r pwah: Lazy Summer Day (again… coin flip time, if it ends up winning for both)
And the last three gave me some difficulty, but I think I’ll take a gut feeling and go with
Twah pwah: Dark and Stormy Night
Duh pwah: Woo Loves Lily
Un pwah: Sandy and Qoo vs the Fire Girl
Hope my cod-french isn’t too indecipherable there.

I kinda had the opposite problem, in that there was less than 3 / 5 that I liked enough to vote for… or more accurately (I -do- like them all!), with my “what would make a good poster that I could hang up?” head on, the choices dwindled a bit…
But am with you on the “there’s a shop?” front. Scrolling up and down here I can’t see a donate button either, though that might just because it’s a comments page. I’m terrible for serially ignoring such things though… I much rather doing kickstarters and the like, even where you only get a little thing back, as a token of what you backed actually being real.
(In which case I feel sort of obliged to at least contribute to the postage costs, and maybe a little extra “tip” besides; though this is technically solicitation, it’s for something I like the look of and probably won’t be a huge amount!)

Looks like your very thoughtful suggestion has been taken up!
Crestlinger wrote:
Another way of putting it is “A4 = normal printer paper size” (there’s not much difference between A4, Legal and Letter), “A3 = twice that size” (ie double width, and about the largest you can fit in a photocopier; the root-2 dimensions of the A-series mean that the proportion between long and short edge is maintained when you do this), and “A1 = a decent sized wall poster, twice the size of A3 in both directions”. Most commercial posters are A1. The next step up, A0, is a seriously big piece of paper, normally used for printing large-scale building plans and the like.
Inch sizes are approximately: A4, 8.3″ x 11.7″ (or 8 x 12 if you prefer) — A3, 11.7″ x 16.5″ (12 x 17) — A1, 33.1″ x 23.4″ (33 x 24). So the largest one is approx 3 x 2 feet on a side.
Also, just to go by the public vote (not knowing what might have been submitted over email in private etc), it seems I sort of captured the zeitgeist a little… the running totals are…
A1
Composition: 11
Book of Woo: 8
Lazy Summer: 2 =
The Woo (band): 2 =
The Suspect: 1
A3/A4
Moonlight Sonata: 17
Dark & Stormy: 16 (ooh, so close!)
Sandra’s Scream: 7
S/Q vs Fire Girl: 5.5 (yes, five and a half)
Lazy Summer: 5.0
Freedom/Cookies: 4
Woo & Lily: 3
The Suspect: 2.5
Seems most people here are characters of exquisite taste and breeding, etc.
Holy crow! A combination of the two webcomics I only read! I love this!
