Even after the penis joke, all I can think about is what Larissa’s real secret is gonna be?
Larisa certainly has her priorities.
[Mom used to say the same thing]

Agreed. Also, by my watch it is Sunday, 3 November 2013 @4:30 P.M. I love timezones.
I can hear Larisa’s view of the world shattering from here lol.
I think Zoey would know that already, being a girl and all.
22:56 03/11/13. I’m reading the future, lol
They make awfully good prosthetic ones, though. With nice tight straps. Never know the difference. Not that I know or anything. 😉
Larissa: “But girls don’t have penises!”
Not with that attitude you won’t! :p

That… would be an understatement.
Zoey: …all I can say to that is, “we have the technology.” Check out this toy catalogue…
Larisa: Toy catalogue?? What is that supposed to… and those are the most surreal toys I’ve ever seen. That’s supposed to be a rabbit? And that’s supposed to be a butterfly?? Do all those batteries they require power some sort of projector or something? Or do they vibrate really violently and fool the eye by persistence of vision?
Zoey: Well, they do vibrate, yes… :-S

Oh my god that is so gross…
Tee-hee, Larissa said ‘But’.
Ah, the lost opportunities.
But seriously, I love Larisa’s character. She doesn’t have a problem that Zoey is lesbian, but she freaks out when she ISN’T bi.
Lord Coyote wrote:
Well, she thinks of boys as an important natural resource (and, of their kind, they are…).
When she comes to grips with the notion that somebody could possibly not be interested in the penis-bearing portion of the juvenile population, I picture a pronounce kvell on her part.
“Ooh! More for me!“
OMG LARISSA!!! YOU KNOW WHAT?! BOYS DONT HAVE MELONS!!
Wait…that’s good….it would be a terrible vision…
Larissa is so socially adept and progressive. How could she not know what it means to be gay?
That said, I don’t like this strip.
I’m wondering how she can be so sure she doesn’t like any boys, even if she already knows she’s lesbian. XD
I just have one question…
WHY MUST EVERY FORM OF INTERNET ENTERTAINMENT MEDIA CONTAIN SOMEONE THAT IS GAY OR LESBIAN NOW!? >_< Seriously, comics do it, people ALL OVER THE WORLD are suddenly claiming to be gay/lesbian/bi out of the blue to the point that it makes me wonder if half of them merely do it to show support or something, and fanfiction is absolutely VIRAL with it now! Is it really SO HARD to say "Nobody in this story is gay or lesbian, THE END!"?
@ illeatyourself:
Well, the data people are throwing around is that about 10% has a non-standard sexual orientation.
It’s only slightly high for there to be one among the side-characters in this webcomic.
Besides, this is Sandra and Woo, the comic that gave you graphic descriptions of racoon-sex. They might just do it because they think some readers would get disgusted.

Dude, it’s because life contains people that are gay or lesbian or bi.
Personally I’m a little afraid of what Larissa’s secret may be. She seems to take a lot of different medicines. And being diabetic unfortunately contributes to a lot of serious health problems. Could it be she’s not planning on having a long life? I’m really hoping I’m wrong but this is an online comic strip which means it can thoroughly tackle issues mainstream strip tend to avoid. Again, I seriously hope I’m guessing wrong here.

I’m with Larissa. It’s ALL good.
Anyone else find it suspicious there is no transcription for this strip?
I mean, I disagree with Landbark: I do NOT think that this strip contains foul language. The most likely candidate, “penises” is mundane, dull and scientific. Quite frankly, there is no way to describe the thing more clinically. If she’d said “man meat” or possibly even “boners” it just might have been a little racy to have her say that. But not penis.
And still, I’m tempted to think that Noville thinks of the word in a similar way, since a transcription is missing. I think from time to time he’s conflicted about going with his gut versus self-censorship to appease a rather prudish part of his audience.
I’m not saying I want the comic to go out of bounds; I like the comic as it is. Every strip of it. Including the Burma ones. I’m simply saying Noville should be able to go with his gut. He’s a sensitive guy, he’s handled his characters with care up to now. I don’t see a reason to assume that would change. So for you prudish people out there, you don’t have to fear that this comic will suddenly become more racy just because it sometimes handles difficult subject matter.
And for all those (if any) who object to the term “penis”, yours is a very, very minor view. Even mormons are allowed to say it. Please, just get over it and don’t make Noville second-guess himself over your views.
Those who didn’t find the joke funny – fine, humor doesn’t always hit home with everybody. I think it’s still something very in-character for Larissa to say, and it doesn’t necessarily imply anything “dirty”. I very much doubt that Larissa has had sex, or that she believes sex (or sex appeal) is everything (for reference, see her boyfriend).
So, this was my lengthy way of saying… I like the strip, I LOVE Larissa, I like that Noville decided to tackle some serious topics – and that he does it with so much sensitivity (except for Burma). And to some people – please don’t try to pressure Noville into ruining a good thing for all of us because of your moral views. Constructive criticism is still fine, of course. And to Noville: Keep up the good work!
PS: Notice how I refrained from being snarky and how I omitted my 20+ word list of dirtier ways to say “penis”.

I’m not sure you understand what lesbian means.
@ Grah:
I’d almost forgotten about the Burma strips. It would be interesting to see some exploring how Cloud and his family feel about the current situation in Burma. – Though to be fair such a theme would probably require its own strip.
Nice to see that Zoey is still the same, sarcastic Zoey regardless of “the reveal”. 🙂
@ Grah:
Should be noted the term boner WAS already used in this comic.
I like how Woo is telling me to look at that dagger commercial. Looks like he is trying to tell me he wants me dead
Blunt today, aren’t we Larisa?
I KNOW WHAT COULD BE THE SECRET! you guys remember when sandra and larisa and clous when to an abandoned factory to explore it? and then larisa got some medicines form her backpack and used them? she might say what is happening with her! or i might just be wrong.
Yes, Larisa, some girls are rather opposed to the idea of a penis near them… that’s sorta the point.
Larissa’s logic, while sound, makes me worry for my own sanity should I ever have a daughter. I think I’m going to give her a machete for her tenth birthday… What? Only a small one.
Larissa’s going to have head-explodey fun if she ever meets a crossdresser, or their opposite.
Zoey’s expression in the first panel is kinda sad; but I really like her reaction in panels 3 and 4.
Good work, Oliver and Powree!

@ illeatyourself:
look up May the Rains Come by Zimeta on deviant art. it is a wonderful, wholesome tale that is clean and good in all social norms.
I really like the way this is being handled. Instead of Zoe being stereotyped or flattened by her orientation, her coming out to Larisa is a part of a larger development of her character. Before her character was portrayed pretty flatly as “the mean girl” but here in this story arch we see a depth and new life being breathed into her. We see that she has desires as well as insecurities. She’s capable of caring and empathy, and she is given background and motivation for her bullying, as well as a sense of humor.
The@ illeatyourself:
The thing is, studies have been done, and it is incredibly improbable for a group with more than a dozen people to not include someone who is gay, or someone who is bi. Being gay is not a rare thing, like you seem to think. In the fiftys, left handed kids were beaten instill they used their right hand. In that time comics did not show left handed people. That was incredibly unrealistic, as would a comic with all heterosexual characters. It’s just math. Also, I don’t think anyone has ever claimed to be gay to prove a point. (Thouge I could be wrong.)
@ illeatyourself:
How do you know what your orientation is? Have you tried the alternative?
It happens on occasion, but it’s pretty rare given the type of backlash that all too often occurs.
*dopeslaps Larisa* of course we don’t. Doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy some Skinship Grope.
@ Grah:
This always and forever THIS!!!
man my 6th grade anatomy teacher was way off then.
Hm, I didn’t think Larisa would be so shocked about someone not being attracted to the opposite gender.
“But girls don’t have penises!”
Some girl do, Larisa; some girls do…
@ Mr_Nabby:
Wait, I take my comment back- her reaction makes perfect sense. Anyone would react like that when they meet someone who dismiss your favorite interests.
@ Aerion Snowpaw:
@ Racooniea:
Thing is, a number of different “studies have been done” over the years. Statistics, too. And that popular “about 10%” estimate which is often quoted is from an old study done several decades ago and is now widely considered flawed. More recent statistics put it closer to 2% or 3%. Though, they don’t always include bi in such numbers, so it’s probably a bit higher.
