- Larisa: That means you like girls?
- Zoey: Yeah…
- Larisa: But you also like boys, right?
- Zoey: Nah…
- Larisa: But… But… But!
- Zoey: But?
- Larisa: But girls don’t have penises!
- Zoey: I’ve heard the rumor too.

@ Aerion Snowpaw:
Or just cause Sandra and Woo is Sandra and Woo. They broach some controversial things with no regard for the consequences and it’s pretty cool. I don’t think they set out to disgust anyone or anything, just make a joke. I was kinda expecting a more subtle strip than this honestly.I’m kinda glad they got around to this though. With all the other things they’ve done strips on I’m surprised it took this long XD
I like this comic. Her reaction seems very age-appropriate. You don’t have the brain to mouth filter installed until you’re a bit older. And if the characters were a bit older I can totally see her next comment being, “But they’re so much FUN to play with!” pause. “Not that there’s anything wrong with not liking it… I just don’t get it, personally.”
> lesbians keep getting seated front and center
Because they are so cute and adorable? Like, say, kittens? Oh, and all men are pervs, of course.
Wait, has Larisa met Landon’s thing…
Larisa is amazing. Looks like she’s been pretty good so far with cheering Zoey up!
Seriously, that horror is priceless.
@ pikadusk:
Possibly, but we wouldn’t know if she did.
I laughed pretty hard.

She doesn’t just have a dislike of boys; she has an active interest in girls. We have seen no evidence that she dislikes males at all, only that she has an interest in females. Generally, if a 12-year-old girl has a dislike of boys, it will not lead to them developing a romantic interest in another girl.
(And if someone argues that my first statement doesn’t discriminate between homo- or bisexual, I remind you that there is a world of difference between considering boys “yucky” and being as indifferent to them as you might be to any of your peers.)
(And before someone says that that isn’t realistic, I’ll say that the above does, in fact, apply in reality as well. People develop at different ages, and by 12, most girls have already entered puberty.)
Also, homosexuality runs deep enough to manifest before puberty. Children’s sexual orientations manifest at much younger ages than some might expect. As an example, many young children develop crushes, and that could make someone’s sexual orientation clear.
Hmm, I was expecting a bit more out of Larissa then that….
It makes me uncomfortable to think that Larisa has had sex…
@ AckAckAck:
Oh, there’s a definite difference in the feel and they each have their advantages as well as disadvantages, but yes technology once again provides where nature fell short. (And yes, I do know from experience!)

You need to have had sex to know what genitalia is called?
Besides, Homecoming II says she hasn’t.
Homecoming II was entirely before the Landon arc…
My, Larisa, what an astute observation.
Not naturally anyway. But prosthetic surgery is always there to satisfy any fetish and/or orientation.
@ illeatyourself:
Well it’s actually not that uncommon. And it’s reeally not eevery story. The proportions are probably halfway reasonable.
Except in fanfiction. But hey, it’s fanfiction, there are much bigger problems with it.
Larissa, when I hoped you would deal with the news well, this is most definitely not what I had in mind. This is a nightmare coming out, and it’s Zoey’s first. Zoey needs quiet understanding (granted, not your strong suit) and support, not moronic statements.
Also, thank you Anon (http://www.sandraandwoo.com/2013/11/04/0525-zoey-heard-the-rumor/comment-page-1/#comment-48382), for making that point. Sure, we’re rare, but we do exist.
@ Lord Coyote:
If you’re gonna swing in a different direction, you might as well have an escape plan.
Okay, but some girls DO HAVE penises. Trans*girls or intersex girls, for example.
Okay… I get that Larissa’s lines represent pretty much the standard heteronormative and cisnormative attitude, and I get that the strip is taking thew piss out of heteronormativity and is likely to be taken by the audience as such. But the statement itself (that girls don’t have penises) seems to have been written as if factual, and is just as likely to be taken by the audience as factual, the *only* criticism being of the assumption that Zooey should consider it a problem. The cissexism is unfortunate. Its a bit like saying that girls don’t have green eyes… if most people actually thought eye colour determined gender and were prone to seeing and treating the identity of women with green eyes or men with [other colour] as facetious or deceitful
@ xpacetrue:
What you’re saying is true! However, the 2-3% estimate is based on sexual orientation self-identity and/or sexual behaviour; so this doesn’t take into account sexual attraction, which is the best criteria to determine sexual orientation. We must also remember sexuality is fluid, so people may not identify with the same label throughout time (and some people simply don’t use labels). A lot of self-identified straight people are still sexually attracted to people of other genders but aren’t out, or don’t consider this relevant to their overall identity.
Coolclaytony wrote:
Read moar. Lots of women have or have had penises (a statistically significant proportion, anyway), and cisgender people (ie people whose usually-genitals-based birth gender assignment accurately represents their gender) altering their sexual characteristics for fetish reasons is anomalous if it happens at all. You got your assumption backwards.
“But but but but… girls don’t have penises!!”
“I’ve heard that rumour too”
Lmao. XD
@ Anon:
That’s pretty much what I was thinking.
I love that Larissa is such a total perv. X3
What was once a relatively clear-cut matter is now surrounded by the minefield of identity-politics.
.
Frankly, the whole topic just gives me a headache.
I would point out that even if one accepts the 2-3% figure, the odds of at least one gay student in a class of 30 are about 50-50. With the 10% figure, the odds of 30 people all being straight is less than 5%.
Also, I like that she doesn’t have a problem with Zoey liking girls, but does have a problem with her not liking boys. In my experience, most people are the other way around; they find little fault with a girl who’s just not interested in boys (and not just girls as young as these, either), but are much more likely to freak out at a girl who likes girls.
Also also, people are more likely to realise that they’re gay than bi, since a gay guy (or girl) is going to have problems with a hetero relationship that a bi guy simply isn’t.
Shocking, Larissa.
@ illeatyourself:
ooooh! The straights are angry!!! GaY peOpLe?? Whaaaat?
Because non-straight people exist? Why are you so mad? Like for real it’s just that WE WANT REPRESENTATION. Chill
Aw bless naive Larisa talking up penises without knowing why they are “special”. I doubt she’ seen the movies
as a hetrosexual male i admir larissa’s logic is flawless, but then … well … its how it is i guess
This is easily still my favorite page of the entire series, thus far. 😀
well some girls have penises
Downside?
And this is coming from someone who once kissed Sandra.
