[0535] Pollux And Castor
└ posted on Monday, 9 December 2013, by Novil
Pollux and Castor are named after the stars in the constellation of Gemini, the Twins. This seems to be very fitting since Pollux and Castor are identical twins themselves. Moreover, these two stars are close neighbors of the star Procyon, the alleged namesake of the raccoon’s scientific name Procyon lotor.
- Pollux: Hey, ain’t that Woo and his mate Lily?!
- Castor: Dammit, you’re right!
- Pollux: Lily, Woo, this is Castor, and I’m Pollux. It’s an honor to meet you.
- Lily: Well, uhh… thank you?
- Woo: You know who we are?
- Pollux: Sure! Who doesn’t? Word spreads fast whenever Seeoahtlahmakaskay pays a visit to somecoon down here.
- Castor: Rumor has it that she was rather disappointed by your cake-stealing skills, though.
If every raccoon knows them… Does Butterfly then know them? Oh my days, they are probably going to get seats right at the front of this thing if she does.
The hell does “Go But Terfly Go” mean?
@ Rabid_Fox:
Nah, it’s ‘Go butterfly Go! The raccoon just used a – between but and terfly because he did not have enough space to put it in a single line.
And Butterfly is simply the name of the star raccoon climber the raccoons have come to see doing a dangerous stunt :p
Castor and Pollux? As in the constellations?
How do they know what Woo looks like?
I kinda feel like woo is considered upperclass in the racoon world. I mean, he has tricked humans into serving him, and was even chaufered to this event by his tame humans
I want some cake
.

Yay! Brick joke!
*ahem*
Looks like this is beginning to look like the raccoon version of a rock concert. Hopefully, it won’t be as noisy as one.
@ Intelligence:
Or the Gemini Twins from mythology.
…Why can’t the just say somebody? They have bodies! …or are the ghost raccoons? .n.
@Chips
That’s a secret to everycoon.
@ myth buster:
Well, Seeoahtlahmakaskay is probably really good at drawing =)
@chips
That’s probably something that sounded better on german and the joke was trasferred.
@Joshua
Or, possibly a reference/shout out to ‘Somepony’ from My Little Pony.
@ Max:
Makes sense. It isn’t the first we’ve seen of MLP references in this comic, afterall. 😉
@ Joshua:
Also, the German version just says ‘everybody’ – Jemanden.
@ Rabid_Fox:
DON’T DEAD
OPEN INSIDE
It wasn’t Woo’s fault he could not steal the cake,
It was a lie.
Good thing Sandra Didn’t show up then. Cake would have to be disproven as a lie to appease them.
Seems like eternal mating between two coons is a pretty special event that able to summon their goddess down to bless the couple. Also it seems like the brothers are a mischiveous duo.

Markings and facial differences. Just like human no?
@ AckAckAck:
I think maybe the point he was bringing up is that they have never seen him before, so how do they know how he looks? 🙂
Castor and Pollux? as in “face off?”
Why aren’t I able to comment?
Oh, NOW it works! Both last night and now I have tried to post a certain comment, but for some reason it just doesn’t work! How wierd.
I take it the raccoon community has access to cameras? And stole a picture of Woo and Lily? Or maybe they are super good at describing other raccoons.
Are those two related? Siblings, perhaps?
@ Rhiakath:
Sorry if it seems like I’m spamming comments here, but in relation to that, I just noticed something. Didn’t John ‘Woo’ direct that movie? Hmm…
Hurray, See-kay was within the continuity!
I mean, it does take some guts as an author to acknowledge that yes, your modern-day slice-of-life comic does have gods and it was not an out-of-continuity weirdness flick.
Also, go Butterfly go!
Sollux captor?
@ Liliet:
SaW have never really been completely realistic. Isn’t it just more fun to let all talking raccoons, animal gods, ninja sisters and talking toasts be real in comics world?
And yay, my See-Kay nickname is starting to catch on!
Hey guys. Love the comic. IIRC, you’re somewhat learning English through this writing process. In service of that goal, I’ll take issue with Castor’s use of “dammit.” What you wanted there was “damn,” or perhaps a different interjection. “Damn it” strongly implies frustration, while I believe you were attempting to represent amazement. Suitable candidates would include “damn,” “wow,” “holy crap,” “by God,” “hey,” and a few others that are probably more filthy than you want to use.
Your English is still far better than my German. 🙂
@ myth buster:
I told them; brown with black stripes. 😉
Gah those names are so confusing! It all sounds like gffgufvjussugkifdvjj to me
The Gemini constellation! <3 They're soooo cuteeeeeeeeeee!!! <3 <3
I love these comics so much <3
Umm, weren’t Castor and Pollux real life human twin brothers before they got constellationed?
At least they weren’t named ‘Romulus’ and ‘Remus’, then you would have Star Trek comments
@ Guesticus:
though the connotations of raccoon that were subsequently raised by wolves, and created rome based on namesake would be interesting wouldn’t it? whereas, birth by egg, constellations, and divine parent hood is pretty cool too.
@ PaladinVII:
It wasn’t a lie, Woo told the truth. OTOH, if Sandra had believed him and let him take it, it wouldn’t really have been stolen, would it?
Will do Castor die soon? I hope not but the names sometimes speak the future of some characters…
@ King_Crimson:
It will be very interesting if there’s Raccoons raised by wolves. Let say they are evil and cannibalistic and working together with wolves to entrap unassuming coons.

We hear you also live with humans? *gasp* YOU’RE NOT INFECTED BY SOME MIND CONTROL DISEASE RIGHT!?
@ DJMouthwash:
I understood that reference.
@ Chips:
In My LittlePony (Which the creators are all fans of) The ponies use “everypony” and “somepony” instead of “everybody” and “somebody”. I assume “Somecoon” was a reference to MLP.
Huh, so I got something right for once!
Castor and Pollux? Is that a reference to Mockingjay or something?
Llodsliat wrote:
Not sure who or what ‘Mockingjay’ is or was, but Novil said 6 posts above where the names came from

Which version? MLP from the 80’s, or MLP:FiM?
Pollux and Castor are also the namesakes of a certain duality-themed troll in Andrew Hussie’s webcomic “Homestuck”: Sollux Captor.
Just swap the ‘P’ and ‘S’. His shirt also bears the Gemini symbol.
Funny fact is that castor and pollux are both names of ships of the belgian navy, and that entire line of ships was named after flowers.
