The part about setting her parents up reminds me of Supernatural. Anyone else?
why can’t our god be this social
“Stay awhile! You are so beautiful!”
Not bad going – not only does she successfully climb onto the top, but is rewarded by meeting Seeoahtlahmakaskay!
What she’ll make of the revelation that Seeoahtlahmakaskay acted as matchmaker for her parents is anyone’s guess… 🙂
OH finally this climb is over!
Guess this is where the saying “God works in mysterious ways…” Came to be…
This was a pretty exciting climb considering it took three and a half weeks 🙂
Great conclusion to a story arc I have thoroughly enjoyed 🙂
Also, is it just me that’s getting the title in German? Just wondering wether or not that’s intentional or if it’s some mix up with the German translation of the comic, and if it is, any German speakers know what it means? It says ‘Verweile doch! Du bist so schön!”
Butterfly: So… have you really done fanart of me?
Seeoahtlahmakaskay: I have. And when the stars are properly out, you’ll all be able to see it! 8•)
>:=)>
@ Luke:
I have a feeling it’s intentional, it’s a quotation from Goethe’s ‘Faust’ and is probably the most famous line in all German Literature. It means, ‘Stay a while! You are so beautiful!’
@ Ivresse:
Thanks 🙂 I seem to be quite ignorant when it comes to German literature then!
So, what was it that Butterfly asked the eagle to do??
May I speculate that she is the child of Lilly and Woo? I have nothing to base that on however.
Now I wonder who her parents might be.
I mean, all we know about her age is that she’s at least two, and a certain coon couple have been together for four years.
@ Zarpaulus:
I don’t think that much time has passed in the comic. A few weeks or months maybe–and if she was their child, I’d think one or the other would’ve mentioned it before now.
Butterfly is so awesome.
The feels. They hit me hard.
@ Jim:
There was time travel involved. That’s why she had to work her tail off.
@ Drazisil:
TIME TRAVEL YES
And then seeoahtlahmakaskay trolls us by saying Butterfly is the daughter of Woo and Lily.
W-wow this totally reminds me of my Videogame series. Where the heroine talks to the goddess.
This is so beautiful. (What no I’m not crying! My allergies are messing up) sniff sniff
I knew she could do it! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Woo! Uh, expression of joy, not calling the character.
@ Drazisil:
you have got to be new here
The funny part is I saw this coming a few weeks ago
I have this feeling that Seo have something bigger for Butterfly. This is just the beginning.
Such a perfect ending! I can’t stop smiling! :DDDDD
Ho god, I’m crying.
@ mittfh:
And as John “Hannibal” Smith was quoted for a recent episode of Gaia: “I love it when a plan comes together”
@ Luke:
Google Translate says “Stay a while! You are so beautiful!”
Nothing like a good pairing of Levis to set things in motion.
More importantly, did she engineer that mountain’s conditions as well?
@ Jason:
Totally.
Yep, definitely wondering who Butterfly’s parents are. With that sort of reveal, I’m wondering if Butterfly is Lily’s sister. Surely not Lily & Woo’s daughter… well… I suppose Lily could be there to see her daughter, and Woo might not have seen Lily for a while… no, Lily doesn’t seem to act like she knows Butterfly at all.
Okay, my guess will be that Butterfly is Woo’s sister, because we don’t know anything about Woo’s parents, and both Butterfly’s and Woo’s abilities seem to be goddess-given. Also, I suspect Butterfly is a descendant of Rocky, the other raccoon to have climbed The Professor.

What does it look like when a person tells you they talk to God?
Okay, sure. What does it look like when that person says he heard God reply?
Right there! That’s why.
@ Drazisil:
I rather doubt it, since
1> she was climbing before Lilly and Woo met
2> they haven’t had kits, yet
Now, Butterfly.
Accuse Woo of lying again. I dare you.
The title cites Goethe, “Faust”, second part.
Mephistopheles visits Faust another time to offer him a contract. Faust answered:
Und Schlag auf Schlag! -And blow by blow!
Werd ich zum Augenblicke sagen: – Shall I say to the moment:
Verweile doch! du bist so schön! – Stay a while! you are so beautiful!
Dann magst du mich in Fesseln schlagen, – Then you’re sure to beat me in shackles,
Dann will ich gern zugrunde gehn! – Then I will gladly perish!
Dann mag die Totenglocke schallen, – Then the death knell may sound,
Dann bist du deines Dienstes frei, – Then you are free of your ministry,
Die Uhr mag stehn, der Zeiger fallen, – The clock may stop, the fall pointer,
Es sei die Zeit für mich vorbei! – It was past time for me!
While the translations that the other readers have offered here are entirely correct, I’d like to add that this famous quote doesn’t refer to a person, but to a moment that should last forever.
So the quote indicates how very special and perfect this moment is to Butterfly.
@ john willow:
I WAS JUST THINKING THE SAME EXACT THING OH MY GOODNESS!! @_@
*gasp* MAYBE THIS MEANS THAT WOO AND LILY ARE HER PARENTS AND SHE IS ACTUALLY FROM THE FUTURE OR THEY GET SENT TO THE PAST OR- *mind explodes*
Sorry, that’s what happens when you see THREE BIG REVEALS IN A ROW during a Doctor Who spree. XD
This comic is so sweet!!! It gives me a happy feeling inside
+1 for arranged marriages? Or +2 for working hard to get desired results?
@ Jason:
Oh yeah.
I get it that hooking her parents up was an investment and that the merit for the legendary climb is Butterfly’s… but the timing of the revelation sort of subtracts from the accomplishment, even if it is just by making it more about her genes than her determination.
-Just because a god decided to try to make you by getting your parents together, doesn’t mean that the god then fiddled with the genes that actually made you. So it’s possible that the goddess saw what could be if those two raccoons had a child together, and decided to try, but couldn’t be sure it would actually work.
-It is possible to fight destiny. It’s not easy, and not very comfortable, but it’s possible. It’s also possible to fail while trying to achieve your destiny. Thus, just because something is destined to happen, doesn’t mean you had no choice, and no hand, in bringing it about.
At least, if you believe things work that way.
@ Luke:
I’ve got it too.
Okay, I think I know what the eagle’s been asked to do: help Butterfly get back DOWN from that rock.
Typical bloody management. They let you work your guts out on a project and then when all the hard work is done and you’ve succeeded against the odds they turn up to take the credit.
@ Zarpaulus:
I’d sort of think they’d recognize their own kit, you know?
Reminds me of the old Eddie Izzard quote about meeting God:
“When we landed on the moon, that’s really when God should have come out and said hello. Because if you make some creatures, you put ’em on the blue one and they make it to the gray one, you come out and say “Well done.”.”
mittfh wrote:
eep… considering the context there, I hope you’re not quoting _Faust_: “Verweile doch, du bis so schoen”!
Talk about being greeted at the finish line!
I would be kind of concerned that somebody controlled my parents’ lives to conceive me.

It’s interesting that you forget she says work payed off which means there was still uncertainty yet the odds were highly likely. Thats like saying your god for breeding racing horses together to try and get a breed that’s real fast and when breeding to get the fastest horse ever saying you knew 100 percent that that would happeh. Also on the thing of free will. Let us say you know everything that will happen to someone if you don’t interact with them. You know their chooses, outocomes, way they die, everyting. Yet you could simply change it all by interacting with them. Do they have free will since you know what will happen. Is it only free will if no one knows what is going to happen. I can’t answer this for you since I’m allowing you to choose, but I know from what you choose what you believ. Niw do you trully have free will?
