[0567] Aiming High
└ posted on Thursday, 27 March 2014, by Novil
- Flint: Hi, I’m Flint.
- Butterfly: Nice to meet you, Flint. I thought everyone would be busy eating now or… oh well, you know.
- Flint: I figured that could wait a bit. When I’m working on a project, I tend to forget everything around me.
- Butterfly: I know the feeling.
- Flint: And you? Are you already aiming high again?
- Butterfly: You could say that. 8,611 meters high, to be specific.
- Flint: 8,611 meters? … You want to climb K2, the Savage Mountain?
- Butterfly: Yes, and I can hardly wait! The avalanches are said to be absolutely breathtaking this year!
Butterfly can bring Flint to climb K2 with her as a date XD
Very nice to finding someone who you can shares your interest. and love!!!! the story but can we move on to the next one please. I’ve seen enough of butterfly for now.
The confidence ….It burns us! DX
Hey! Who put “Love is in the air” on? Is Woo hiding in the bushes with an mp3-player?
No, nevermind.
Just the neighbours. (>_>)
Anyway: I’m surprised he instantly recognised what mountain she was speaking of. Obviously he’s not new to this and a geek of his own right.
He seems nice, though I hope he doesn’t get in the way of what Butterfly really wants to do. It’s all well and good finding someone to be with, but I, for one, would rather settle down when I’ve achieved what I wanted to achieve.
I feel like this might turn into another Killing me Softly.
I appreciate her confidence though – something the female protagonist in that movie never had.
The avalanches will certainly take your breath away, they just might not give it back.
Climbing as a date with Flint…perfect for them
“They just might be the death of me, and should that happen, it will be SPECTACULAR!”
“But are you sure you want to die a virgin?”
“NOPE!! You’re a climbing fan too, wanna mate?”
*intense mating ensues*
He.. he knows the exact height too! You don’t let that kind of people get away, Butterfly!
This should be it’s own spin off. I love this character and hate to see the story end anytime soon but at the same time I also wanna see more of Sandra and Woo themselves.
“I thought everyone would be busy eating, or…, oh well, you know.”
Well I am pretty sure she would need al kinds of equipment to climb k2… and even then she couldn’t stay long, the low pressure at those altitudes has… unfortunete effects if you stay to long.
It’ll take your breath away.. as it CRUSHES IT OUT OF YOUR LUNGS WHILE YOU SCREAM FOR HELP BUT NONE WILL COME AND YOU ARE LEFT TO A COLD AND SLOW FATE
jk, you don’t have any air at the top of K2
@ TheDerpamon:
Dang, wanted to put a link to Careless Whisper there, but it didn’t work.
Notice that Flint did not get hurt when shake hand with Butterfly, not like Woo did before.
We have got a genius here.

@ Theodore:
I think the reason Woo’s paw was crushed was because of Butterfly’s meltdown. She was probably under so much stress that she couldn’t concentrate on what she was doing, an example being when she slipped down the cherry tree.
I’m sensing the beginning of a beautiful friendship. And Butterfly, avalanches are amazing. From a distance, at least.
Aaaaaah it’s nice to know that we will just have two raccoons probably climbing the same mountain together and helping each other out when times are tought. Yup no romantic stuff just pure hard work and dedication. Yup Yup also I’m pretty sure old Seekay is busy playing bingo with Reynard or something. I’m sure she’s over Butterfly not wanting a mate yup yup. You guys are just over thinking this. I’m sure Oliver and Prowee are done with the romance stuff. Sandra Cloud Woo and Lily are enough. So yhea… No romance….. Just Butterfly and Flint doing stuff…. Non romantic stuff… Hehehe
@ MawileCeyvis:
Aww come on now… I’m sure Oliver and Prowee are done with the whole climbing stuff. Right guys? No K2 is just gonna happen off screen Am I right? Well probably see Sandra and Cloud and PyroGirl again real soon right? Yhea totally guys r-right???
I have to admit, I’ve been hoping for weeks that each given page would be the last one of this arc. It’s been a fun read but it’s dragging pretty badly right now for me.
Wow. Am I the only one who isn’t sick of this arc? We’ve had plenty of long arcs before. I’m kind of curious what they’re building up to. Granted, it’s not very dramatic right now, but I assume we’re going toward something.
I like that Flint’s sweat droplets come from off-panel in the third one. He’s so nervous.
Is it just me, or does Flint seem to be less well-drawn than all of the other raccoons?
I feel like our favorite Raccoon goddess will LOVE to see this, assuming she isn’t.
Handshakes for raccoons must be really intricate.
the fact that he knows the height of the mountain off the top of his head forebodes well for their companionship.
Eh, I could go either way, I won’t mind if they stay in this story line partly curious what else they could add since it seems to be dying down or I could be ready to move onto fillers comics while they think up a new storyline since this storyline does seem to be dying down… supposing this storyline doesn’t have two climaxes.
I’m surprised Flint knows exactly what peak she’s talking about. I wonder what ELSE he knows? Might be a good climbing partner. In fact, if Butterfly actually goes to K2, she’d even need a TRAVELLING partner, considering it’s on the other side of the world. Not sure if that trip will happen, considering the toll it would take on ANY raccoon.
Considering his name, I suspect there will be some sparks happening.
I loathe being on this side of the divide – but I also think the current story arc, at 37+ strips, is running a little long. But that doesn’t necessarily mean I don’t want to see story arcs of this length – it should just be about something we give a damn about.
Butterfly was basically a no-character before this – and the way this is going – will once again become a no-character once this arc is over. The interaction of Sandra and Woo and Lily at the beginning was good, nice fleshing-out for already established characters. If this arc is about Seekay (and this is my favorite nickname for her) – then I find it sadly lacking. Seekay does not appear as a ‘character’ so much as an ‘NPC’ – a part of the world the characters interact with. So this becomes ‘mystical world-building’. I don’t think this is what the comic is about.
A good idea for a longer story arc would be in my opinion: A story where two of the (established) characters disagree, and fight. They don’t settle their difference in just one panel, but change the way they interact with each other in the future (possibly in subtle ways). As in, a real test of the strength of a relationship, not against an outside force, but against internal conflict.
I’m sorry, because this seems like a slap in the face for Oliver trying out something the audience has been asking for – longer story arcs, more Woo time, etc. And I appreciate that – but this is just how I feel about the current arc.
Tbh I think taking a team to climb Everest is necessary.
I’m really starting to doubt that, that is butterfly
@ Luke:
Maybe he could climb it with her

It’s kinda naughty, isn’t it?
Ah yes, breath taking indeed when it takes your life. And Flint, as a Butterfly stalker and follwer, I would advice you to be nice to her, her paws have bone crushing skills, so if you don’t want to fall of a k2 because the savage mountain has a savage beast that day, be nice to her.
shipping themselves to Tibet might be a little on the difficult side. Hiring Sherpa guides might not be so easy either, then there is the little matter of sub-zero temperatures, and air to thin to breathe. Flint, you seem a bright ‘coon. Talk her out of this madness, and into some eating or oh well, you know.
K2 is not in Tibet but in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir. The road ends at a “nearby” town and from there it is an 8-day hike to the K2 Base Camp. How much oxygen do raccoons need?
(Source: The Summit, I think you can find it on Youtube)
My -guess- is that this arc will end with Butterfly and Flint going off together to plan for a joint climb of K2, and Seekay standing there with a satisfied smile as she believes her own hopes will end up fulfilled after-all. What, if anything, will happen between Sandra, her dad, and Woo and Lily is a whole nother question! 🙂
Part if me is thinking that Seeoahtlahmakaskay had this encounter planned. Another is thinking it wasn’t but the original plan of getting the “suitors” together still worked.
Not so much the climbing issue of getting raccoon-sized oxygen tanks and gear but remembering to bring a pair of snowboards to get Down that mountain During an avalanche sounds like the kind of motivation requred for the climbing to commence.
I don’t wanna be rude because I love this comic and I know the author doesn’t deserve it, but I truly despise this arc….
@ banjo boy:
Well I’m sure a lot of people are getting tired of it. Hmm wonder if The Empress of Northia is done with her “Royal” duties…….. Eh?
@ Crestlinger:
What about getting a fish bowl? Works for Mario when he went into space.
@ TheDerpamon:
I read that with GLaDOS’ voice. XD
@ Xezlec:
I know, right? I find it interesting, since S&W started with Woo as the center of attention, and then humans, humans and more humans. I find it nice to see something like this once in a while, even if Woo isn’t involved.
