- Sandra: Daddy’s boss and his wife are coming for dinner, so I want to see you on your best behavior this evening. Understood?
- Woo: Understood.
- Woo: My excellent behavior this evening shall become a shining example for all of raccoonity!
- Sandra: Woo!!
- Woo: What!?

It’s like Sandra and Woo did a rule 34 of itself.
I site this as foreboding.

@ Ry Rodrigo:
The “direction”? What direction are you talking about, exactly? It’s been pretty clear from the git-go that S&W was 13+. Novil even put it in the FAQ. Furthermore, the characters are growing up, they’re now obviously young teens. You’re gonna get sexual references. That’s what happens when you grow up.
The story touched on violence and abuse as soon as strip THREE.
It talked about the situation in Burma in comic THIRTY.
The first “sex joke” was Woo using a BBC wildlife as an “adult magazine”. That was in strip 36.
In strip 55, Sandra was sending some “enlarge your penis” spam to Cloud. So please, sex has been in there since the beginning. Sex is just another joke topic.
We are at strip 637. Where were you all this time?
@ Gamesman:
You know the funniest thing? Actual Puritans of that era would not have a problem with this.
@ Jon:
True they were breeding animals so that type of thing was an everyday occurrence. Not only that but most lived in 1 room homes where their children got first hand knowledge of human sexuality when their parents were “fruitful and multiplying”. This is why sex education was mostly unneeded until just recently (historically speaking).
@ Gamesman:
Yes. They had no problem with having an audience, so to speak. They were, to my understanding, labeled as the ultimate symbol of prudes because they refused to cheat in a time when everybody and their mother(especially their mother) cheated like mad.
When in actuality they were pretty damn sexual and shockingly progressive. They were one of the first groups in Western societies to list sexual dissatisfaction as a valid reason for a divorce.
I too wonder if a line has been crossed here and wondering exactly what audience in mind the comic is aimed at.
The comic is mostly centered on preteens and while humourus as a comedy comic strip, does deal with more maturer matters at time. With the charming art style and the comics centered around the characters family and friends I pressumed you were aiming for more teen-family audience.
While I understand the message of the comic is about the differences in human and animal culture, it is delivered in a way I’d expect from such cartoons from [adult swim].
Still perhaps this is merely a test of direction with the comic, could follow with a story than just a one-strip gag which makes up for the tention this strip has caused.
The question now is, though:
If Lily is obviously feeling pleasure, why doesn’t Woo appear to be getting pleasure himself?
@ The J.A.M.:
The turkey was too salty?

Jon wrote:
It’s “perfectly possible”, yes, but it’s a stretch. To do that sudden of an about-face, from attacking someone for something to such an extent that it got borderline uncomfortable, to placing himself in the same position, is jarring. Go out and look on the internet. Do people who like something themselves normally defend other people against that thing? No. It’s theoretically possible, sure, but I never see that. Normally, they urge the other person to lighten up, because they want them to feel the same way they do.
Having a personal opinion that differs from yours and doesn’t harm or insult you in any way is “being a prick”. Check.
Being surprised by human-like characters having explicit sex on a table in a generally SFW comic is “prudery”. Check. Saying my opinion out loud is “shoving it on others”. Check.
Show me a European newspaper with a strip this explicit. Go ahead. Look for one. I’ll wait.
OK, so saying I find this strip jarring is horribly offensive, but “stop crying and go get laid” is perfectly civil conversation. Check. Thanks for clarifying that, oh great and morally superior teacher.
It actually took me a moment to even notice the censor bar. I don’t even see why you added that part, since the scene is about him scarfing the turkey.
Just wait till Steve and Lydia stop by. 8P Speaking of which, if Woo had this reaction here, why did he have a different view when Shadow revealed the pictures?
@ Dante:
Because the pictures were taken against Shadow’s will and Woo knew that.
Just because Woo is fine with audiences doesn’t mean he can’t understand why others aren’t. It’s just a failure of communication here, because from Woo’s perspective Sandra literally told him to do this.

Teen friendly according to America or according to the teen themselves? Most teens have, for example, seen quite a bit of pornography. Generally speaking, the age guidelines for sexual content are based on what sensitive parents feel rather than what’s actually good for teenagers. This strip is not harmful to teenagers.
@ Vidad:
She’s getting “stuffing” and “sausage” so she’s content.
WH-WH- WHAT ??? Are you crazy ? What the hell is that ??? That’s one of your worst strip strip right now. Are you out of your mind ?
Published all the way back in 2010, so the content of this strip is nothing new: http://www.sandraandwoo.com/2010/03/04/0143-love-at-first-sight/
Also: Sex is good and funny and there is nothing wrong with writing jokes about it.

I’m just sad for the additional censor you just put in.
Good thing I saved the original :^)
Did Woo… stuff the censor bar too?
http://imgur.com/82kdnjD
Well, the strip proves one thing without any doubt.
There is no sex in America.
*facepalm* should have seen that coming when he said “Shining example for RACOONITY” instead of humanity. looks like Sandra missed that one too.
I think there will be a huge load of rule 34 soon
Among raccoons it is a great honour for your hosts to mate in front of you!
I laughed at this far more than I should have. 🙂
@ Amaroq Dricaldari: MAVERICK? HERESY. *BLAM*
Certainly a bit risqué here at the moment…
Note to anyone reading this for the first time:
Because Americans are such mewling babies who faint at the very concept of sex, this strip’s censor bar has been enlarged as not to offend their innocent petite little souls.
Man, the comic was already good (and completely unexpected, I say!). But the comments are simply hilarious here and there! 😀
I suppose thats one kind of Thanksgiving stuffing…;P
I must say I saw it
B)
…cumming.
Wow,Raccoons know how to party on thanks giving.
As an American I can’t really say I’m bothered by it. I even find it amusing.
But are the “All Americans are pussies” comments really necessary? I mean for one thing, no stereotype is 100% true.
Plus I tend to think that anyone who has a legit stance should be able to make an argument without insults, as they tend to be a distraction.
Goodbye.
Go woo go woo your the raccoon!!!!!!!
Hey no need to accuse people here! He’s just doing what we’ve all wanted to at one point or another in our lives.
@ Jk8z:
Yeah, but I don’t think generalizing all Americans as wimps who can’t handle sex is going to accomplish anything.
I mean I actually like this strip, yet I can’t help but feel the insult is directed towards me just because I am American.
Decklen wrote:
So… the strips about Burma and especially about Ye Thuza… “kid friendly”? And those were pretty early in the day, too (though she recently “disappeared” an inconvenient teacher).
Also, about Larisa… I still think she has some kind of lethal disease which leads her to live life ‘faster’ than other people. Not sure if motherhood is in her future.
Well, the overwhelming rudeness has only verified that I’m clearly not a welcome viewer. It’s been fun.
@ Luckster:
At best I’d say just avoid the comments and read the panels only.
Now for those who really took an offense to the strip, remember that we’ve had things like:
1. Yuna once saying (maybe a few other time) motherfucker.
2. Sandra discovering that Woo used her YouTube account to look at coon porn.
3. Cloud (who at the time may have been 12) getting a boner.
4. Woo attacking Sandra a few times, and serious damages to her clothes.
5. Larisa suggesting that she and Landon do the naughty.
This may be more explicit than those or not, but it’s not exactly unprecedented.
And that’s how an argument works without insults or generalizations.
@ Zero:LOL The censored stamp is part of the sight gag! Also, the look on Woo’s girl’s face is priceless.
@ Antiyonder:I think the issue here is one of appropriate behavior not the fact that Woo and his girl were having sex but the fact that they were two forest critters having sex on the dinner table and also eating dinner. As Mustrum Ridcully would say, “It’s unhygienic, that is!”. 😉 Don’t take it personally; its a joke. If anything, I’d take it as a bash at uncouth manners.
@ Jiffy:
Jeje tosed to your face XP
Pfffffftttt Woo no that’s not how you celebrate Thanksgiving! (Although Lily seems pretty thankful *wink wink*) I love everyone’s faces in the last panel, keep up the good work!
@ Jon: really? weak hearted? this coming from a man so weak he only talks smack on the internet where he can hide in anonymity…
This is a prime example of the problem with comics featuring intelligent animals. Kevin & Kell is another frequent offender. They play on the intelligence on some occasions and the animal nature some of the time, trying to have it both ways. The “let’s get revenge on the nature photographer whose pictures no actual animal would be embarrased about” storyline was the reverse of this trope.
As far as I’m concerned, Woo lost the right to be quite that oblivious of the culture of his human friends when he acquired sapience.
Clearly Sandra forgot to whom she was talking to. Something she may want to reflect upon while shes getting the water house to turn on these two.
Hah.. I want a close up of lily’s face for avatar use. That is amazing and hilarious. Also I laughed so hard I shot tea out of my nose. You owe me a new wii u gamepad powree.
btw, I forgot to mention it, but I saw your short circuits in megaman [I think it was you]. Good work!
I find this one of the most funny joked in the comic so far. It took me completely by surprise like a good joke should. Well done Novil!
I find it a bit sad how many people that complain about this, to me humor can involve all facts of life including sex. I can see no problems with teens or even kids watching this strip.
While Jon is generalizing too much and is a bit “racist” against Americans in his comments, I do think he is right that there is a cultural difference between Europe (or at least northern Europe) and USA, as the general consensus in USA seems to be that it is bad for kids and even teens to see any stuff with sexual content, while we tend to see sex as natural thing that kids and teens should know about.
While you should not let children watch porn or anything like that, they should know “how babies are made”. Keeping that fact of life away from them is unnatural and can only lead them to have an unnatural attitude towards sex later in life. As for teens, keeping sexual content out of teen rated stuff is even more unnatural (since teens have sexual desires) and futile anyway because of the internet.
Okay I guess I have to stand up for my “Fellow Americans” (giggle). Most of us will find this funny but there is a VERY vocal minority who will scream and shout about any sex depicted in books or visual art of any kind. These are the same people who got The Fault In Our Stars banned from some schools. They have also gotten Harry Potter banned for “witchcraft”. I’m not going to point fingers but you can guess who they are. They are the offline trolls and attention is what they really want.
It sure looks like Lily was impressed by Woo’s behaviour. It is this kind of misunderstanding between humans and raccoons that makes them generally poor pets.
