Character occurrence frequency 2008 to 2014
Here is a diagram that shows how often the main and supporting characters of Sandra and Woo appeared in each year. Note that there were only 20 strips in 2008. There were 18 strips that only featured Butterfly at the beginning of the year which particularly reduced the number of appearances of Sandra and Woo.

Number of new strips per year:
- 2008: 20
- 2009: 105
- 2010: 107
- 2011: 106
- 2012: 104
- 2013: 100
- 2014: 104
Heh. Butterfly got so much screen time this year 🙂
Just a suggestion. A percentage plot would give more information as there seems to be an overall trend involved.
@ Jordan:
It would make it clearer anyway.
So, the 2 characters, Sandra and Woo, that this comic strip are named after, appeared less than %30 this entire year??
Great! Wondering if we will see Butterfly ever again…

Would you have preferred if I had placed Sandra’s face in the background of each strip Butterfly appeared in? It doesn’t make sense to feature a specific character x times if you don’t have good ideas for that character. It is already very probable that at least Sandra will appear in ca. 45%-50% of all strips this year again.

Personally, as long as raccoon characters are involved, I’m totally okay. :3
Oh, *that* kind of character frequency.

It appears that roughly speaking, Sandra and Woo get less screen-time the more characters there are. Nothing really surprising. However, most web-comics I’ve seen suffer from a serious loss in quality after a couple of years. I can only presume that if there hadn’t been a lot of other characters, what we would have seen is a lot of low quality S&W strips instead.
What I would have liked to see though is the number of strips that features both Sandra and Woo.
I also find Cloud’s and Larisa’s exposure interesting. It seems that Cloud is rather dependent on his interaction with Sandra while Larisa is better at standing on her own legs. Mid 2009 was when we first saw evidence of Sandra having a crush on Cloud and it’s mid 2011 that they kiss for the first time. So, half 2009 and 2011 and full 2010 is when their relationship develops and this matches the graph perfectly. After their first kiss, their relationship hasn’t really changed and that seems to have been bad news as far as Cloud’s exposure is concerned. Larisa’s exposure is rather stable, she peaks during 2011 which is when the long camping trip took place, but has otherwise remained within a relative narrow range.
Landon doesn’t even make it into the list?
More Cloud. Now. And why are BEN AND THEO NOT EVEN ON THE LIST!?
Personally, while I don’t mind Sandra and Woo themselves, I don’t find them too overly interesting as characters. I much prefer some of the other characters, like Larisa and Ye Thuza. So this trend is concurrent to my interests!
You do realize what this means, right?
2015 will now be the year of the Zoey. Looking forward to it!

Sorry, can’t stop thinking about Butterfly 🙂
Poor Landon didn’t even make the cut to be a main character. Which is a shame I’d love to see a Sandra, Cloud, Landon, Larisa adventure.
Now that I think about it that’s a pretty well rounded party. Sandra, Jack of all trades; Cloud, the fighter; Landon: the brains, Larisa: the arsonist.
At this rate you might have to call the comic “Yuna & Butterfly”!

Ignoring the point you’re actually trying to make for a second… that is kind of an interesting pairing. Wouldn’t it be weird if Yuna and Butterfly somehow met?
@ Xezlec:
In fact, “Anyone & Butterfly” would be nice 🙂
(Yes, yes, I am kind of Butterfly fan. Should we start a fan-club? Fictional fan-club, of course. Butterfly is a fictional celebrity, so it makes sense she has a fictional fan-club.)
Anyone else get the feeling that Luna might be trolling Sandra?
@ Chris Perry:
Totally 🙂
Butterfly rulezzzz!

I want to see Larissa and Woo. Larissa is crazy enough to be fine with a talking raccoon, and their mischevous natures would lend themselves to all sorts of hijinx.
