[0662] The Floor Is Lava

Okay, I admit it, this strip is pretty random. But I still have to laugh about “The Arsonists of Catan.” That really sounds like a board game tailor-made for Larisa.
- Larisa: To conclude the workshop, we’ll play a game!
- All: Yay!
- Larisa: You may choose from: “The Arsonists of Catan,” “Flames over Camelot,” “The Floor Is Lava,” …
- Luna: “The Floor Is lava?” That sounds like fun.
- All: Luna, no!
- Larisa: Excellent choice. The game will begin in five seconds.
- Larisa: Three, two, one…
- Luna: ?
Flames over Camelot definitely made me chuckle.
Luna’s got a pedestal next to her – grab the pot and jump up onto it – easy 🙂
(Meanwhile, non-Patrons will probably be very confused in just over a day’s time to see comments apparently pre-dating the strip…)
Something tells me that it is not the normal game….
I would love to play this!
This is my new favorite comic strip!
This is awesome. Childhood dreams come to life. ^_^
I am wondering how much this costed to larisa’s family to install this “game”
The Luna, The Luna, The Luna is on fire.
We don’t no water…
And Larisa didn’t cover the subject of firewalking?? Tsk tsk…
Luna: *strolls hurriedly to the door* Cool wet grass.. cool wet grass.. cool wet grass.. cool wet grass.. *opens door, exits*
Larisa: B-but that’s cheating… *sigh* I’ll have to upgrade her to a pass with distinction.
>:=)>
Is anyone else getting flashbacks to that one XKCD strip about this game?
Heh, knowing Larisa, she probably actually turned the floor to lava.
@ Lord Of Mantas:
Now that you mention it…
Well that’s what she gets. When it comes to fire, Larisa doesn’t play around. It’s a good thing Larisa didn’t ask what song they liked and Luna suggested that Fallout Boy song. :-0
I have a feeling that the floor really IS lava, from the button and Luna’s face. I’M BBBBUUUURRRNNNIINNNNGGG!!!
Luna is getting a Very Quick education in All Things Larisa.
.
If she survives this game, she’ll learn that, when everyone Else takes off running, it’s safer to Run First and ask “Why?” later.
That’s if “Why?” doesn’t become obvious While she’s still running.
Is there any required reading for this course? I’d imagine there is at least one well-known piece of literature beyond the sciences that could apply. And no mentions of book burning, please.

@ Xan:Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
@ bogwombler:
Xan requested no book burning. Does a book about book burning violate that?
Apparently Settlers of Catan is being made into a movie.
I am guessing that this version of the game has a special twist.
Hopefully she’s quick enough to not stand in the fire, otherwise things are going to be heating up.

They’d better include at least one wood for sheep joke.
Am I the only one wondering how she got a napalm grenade (or thermite, or actual lava or whatever) to play this game?
Also, who’s house is that? Becouse I’m pretty sure they won’t be very happy about their floor literally being lava?
okay, larisa probably thought about it, but fire in a closed room like this (especially if the whole floor is on fire) would quickly eat all of the oxygen and kill them
@ Carmeops:
Heat is not always produced by fire (as in rapid oxidation reaction). Take electic heaters for example.
Now if there is anything flammable touches the source of heat, that could pose a problem. Convection also brings some inconveniences to the table.
Shouldn’t the question mark be outside of the quotations there?
“The Floor is Lava”?
She makes it too literal. Hahaha… I love Sandra and Woo. 🙂
who in their right mind would let larrisa have any amount of lava
Put me down for Arsonists of Catan. I’m through with people spoiling my hexes and breaking up my roads.
LUNA, NOOOO!!!
Personally, I’d have picked Arsonists of Catan…..
@ Mechwarrior:
Ha!
“Arsonists of Catan,” where ore is coal, grain is flame, wood is wood, and sheep are scared.
(I’m aware that punchline goes to a different joke, work with the wood grain here.)
Spoiler alert; The floor is actually scalded water, because the delivery people stopped her shipment of lava due to her being on the blacklist.
How about “The Castles of Mad King Larissa”?
When the floor is lava, your ass is toast.
I wonder what the other games were?
Being a fully-grown kid is always bound to be more dangerous than just being a kid in general.
I’d be all too happy to play Arsonists of Catan. I shall burn the suck out of it until there is nothing but ash! 🙂
S*** just got real.
Surely even Larisa wouldn’t be dumb enough to literally make the floor lava. Right?
“The Floor is Lava” – Only forget to mention, in this games the fire included parts are… “Mimesive.”
She plays it a lot differently than I did as a kid: https://xkcd.com/735/
