Don’t miss my news post containing the first screenshots of the Sandra and Woo adventure game developed by Feline Fuelled Games.
Richard’s new Facebook status: “It’s complicated.”
- Melody: I quit work at M.I.T. after winning two million dollars from the lottery. But I quickly got bored and began looking for a new job.
- Melody: In my free time, I write code for open source projects and cook fancy three course meals.
- Melody: Also, I sexually identify as a praying mantis and eat the heads of my lovers after intercourse.
- Melody: Got any problem with that, shitlord?!
- Richard: There’s always something.

Is she trolling him?
@ Khazgar:
I for my part find it great. “There’s always something” just makes it wonderful.
In the history of SAW we always get this “what the f” and then it always make sense in the end.
I have to agree with many here. This one was not funny.
There would have been plenty of better way to continue the arc: For examply Melody telling she is using Emacs or Vim and Richard almost choking on a potatoe when he hear it and goes back to his revange plan.
@ Isaac:
I’m a little confused by what you mean about “sexually identifying as a starfish.” I looked up Starfish and they have several different reproductive forms. Some species are hermaphrodites that can self impregnate. Some are born male but become female as they grow older. There are other variations at well. What do you mean?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starfish#Sexual_reproduction
I identify as heterosexual human male. This means that I object to having my head cut off by my sexual partner.
@ A:
To be fair I know more than a few engineers who play the lottery. When I worked at Cessn, I joined a group that collected money (about $5 a person as I recall) and bought lottery tickets. The odds were still heavily against us, but it was fun to fantasize a bit and if we actually won the Powerball, the money would have been split enough ways that each individual’s take wouldn’t ruin their lives.

I did not get that feeling with a few arcs, the Steve and Lydia arc is in particular relevant here. That arc ended with Lydia accepting Steve as a mate, however, she did so based on a false premise. In my mind, Steve would be best of rejecting Lydia immediately since having a relationship based so heavily on a false premise is a terrible thing. This is also a love related arc and I’m far from sure it will play out in a sensible way.
@ slang:
See the problem is that that’s not actually true.
No one “sexually identifies” as anything. Some people are trans and some people are otherkin/therians. Sometimes those two things overlap. But no one is saying that their kin is their gender. The only people who actually say shit like that are trolls making fake blogs to try and give them a bad name.
Also most feminists aren’t otherkin, but the idea of feminism has been conflated with an overexaggerated stereotype of the “easily triggered SJW Tumblrina” thanks to Reddit, which somehow also got mixed up with the idea of being otherkin. It’s probably because those “SJW” types they like to mock usually have the idea of “if it isn’t hurting anyone, let them do it” which applies easily to otherkin and other spiritual beliefs/coping mechanisms.
So yeah that’s my rant that no one cares about but I wanted to say anyway because I’m tired of seeing this bullshit everywhere.
This is probably not what the cartoonist is getting at, but the lottery win might have made the situation worse. Suddenly, she can do whatever the heck she wants with far fewer short-term economic consequences. She doesn’t have to be accommodating in her work environment – what does she care if she gets fired? What does she care if she pisses off her coworkers? If they bug her too much she just leaves, no real short-term consequences to her. She can act crazy and hold unpopular views because she doesn’t have the same social and economic limiters that most people do.
Wait… what? XD
It’s “shitlord” in German, too.
Reminds me of the old ‘I sexually identify as an attack helicopter’ copypasta
I…….hope those clippers are only that clean because of lack of use……
Wow, OK. She’s got Antisocial Personality Disorder. Time to abort.
@ Cordanis:
First, Because I don’t know which of them are their real names and which are not.
Second, Melody having the same job as Richard has nothing to do with whether it’s a reference or not, because Melody is a newer character and could have sprung from anywhere with any job that led to her interacting with Richard.
Third, Do you know what Over zealous means. Also what I said are not attacks. I pointed out these could be references. In fact, at least one could be taken as the opposite of an “attack” if you think about it, but meh.
As to “quality of writing is subjective.” No it isn’t. quality is objective. Your liking or disliking is subjective.
Okay, so DEFINITELY no new mommy for Sandra.
Thank goodness for that,
Now Richard just needs to make it through the night alive and in one piece… o_o
@ Mechwarrior:
Or because alternative sexual identities (-kins) and use of the term “shitlord” are hallmarks of SJWs on Tumblr.
I love how the use of SJW prompted you to reflexively lash out with an MRA accusation.
That escalated quicker than Ron Burgundy.
@ bogwombler:
Actually it’s “taking the piss out of” not from.
Close enough though.
Welp. Look like I am among the one percent that liked the joke. Probably because 1. I did not want Richard to hook up with Melody and 2. any SJW implications flew over my head.
That’s the second tasteless and uneducated (SJWs don’t say that unironically anymore and haven’t for a while; it’s never been as popular as detractors claim) jab you’re making at SJWs, Oliver. Trying to cover up for some unacknowledged bigotry?
If she’s trolling him, this is kinda funny. If she’s at all serious, then this falls flat on it’s face. Eh. We will see.
that sound you hear, is pretty much all of this going right over my head….
I see you’ve been to the fever swamp that is Tumblr…
Now that’s what I call a shipwreck.

The clippers are that clean because Melody believes in Taking Care of her tools.
Keeping them Clean and Rust Free only makes good sense.
If you put them away all Bloody and Gooky, the blades will stick together and the clippers will be difficult or impossible to use the next time you Need them.
@ Threadnaught:But what did you expect from a Yank! 😀
Melody is rekt.
She kind of reminds me of some of my Facebook Friends and how they talk.
Huh, wonder what the game is going to be like?
Wait a sec, she is likely lying here.
I mean, she worked at M.I.T.? Quit after winning millions in the lottery? Make fancy three-course meals? At her age?
I smell a compulsive liar.
Okay, wow… That’s an awfully out-of-nowhere ‘joke’. I dislike this storyline as much as I did the one about the evil feminist.
Melody isn’t bad, per se. But she’s a bit over the top, eiyu her climbing on tables and randomly insulting a wpworker. That just isn’t professional behavior. The whole lottery thing, if not a joke, is jarring and unnecessary too.
Worse, the romantic side happened over one comic. I saw nothing more than two feuding coworkers, no affection or physical.attraction, but then Richard invites her to dinner? I’d never invite someone who treated me like that to dinner. Or go to dinner with someone who treated me like he treats her.
If there had been some blushing, some more playful banter, etc, I could buy this. But there’s no setup and that’s lazy writing.
Scientists have recently deducted that female preying mantis’ only ate the head of their mate when they were being watched by the scientists. How could they be alive if they only had 10- 100 eggs that may or may not all survive?
So she’s crazy, possibly a liar.. or at the very least has a poor sense of humor and is a bit rude.. I say ditch her.
Does anyone else miss the times when this comic was about a Raccoon?
O-kaaaaay, that went wrong fast. Time to call on Ye Thuza to show Melody what happened to that Cambridge harridan.
@ NamelessAidan:
Well, even when it was about a raccoon there were several moments- anus-licking, Woo on his best behaviour in front of Richard’s boss, the video link, the killing of a mother bobcat and likely subsequent starvation death of her kits, Larissa roleplaying as a child molester . . . . I guess when it comes to this comic, one has to take the rough trade with the smooth . . .
@ MathAddict:
Above or below the wrist Clarice?
Feminazis, there is something that you can not ruin?
@ Khazgar:
She probably just has a really weird sense of humor. Par for the course, given everything else we know about her. Me likes 🙂
This, I’ve got to admit, did not see coming
Story ranks higher than comedy.
The jokes in this arc are certainly funny, I still hope him and Melody don’t hook up in the end though…heheh…

This isn’t a shoujo manga, and love isn’t always “blush blush doki doki I hope senpai notices me”. You notice how even though the two argue over the tiniest things (like code indentation), they’re pretty much the same kind of person?
You don’t have to be flirty to be in love.
I sexually Identify as an Attack Helicopter. Ever since I was a boy I dreamed of soaring over the oilfields dropping hot sticky loads on disgusting foreigners. People say to me that a person being a helicopter is Impossible and I’m f**king retarded but I don’t care, I’m beautiful. I’m having a plastic surgeon install rotary blades, 30 mm cannons and AMG-114 Hellfire missiles on my body. From now on I want you guys to call me “Apache” and respect my right to kill from above and kill needlessly. If you can’t accept me you’re a heliphobe and need to check your vehicle privilege. Thank you for being so understanding.
@ Khazgar:
Can you remember a single incident where this word was used by FAOP *) and the person so called actually deserved it?

You just said “tasteless and uneducated” unironically.
@ preadatordetector:
I worked at MITin the 90s in the Plasma Fusion Lab on Pacific Ave. In Cambridge. The project was their version of a scaled down Lawrence Livermore’s Tara Tandem Mirror project designed to collect data on plasma containment and deuterium interaction. I was assigned to the RF lab working on a prototype gyrotron 220kW rf source used as a heat source at both ends of the containment cell. Other than doing the welding for the oil bath I built the damned thing myself. Even prototyped a tetrode Thomson CSF modulator for it along with data collection and control hardware. Anyway, I can truthfully say, that working with other engineers, UNIX programmers, and research scientists, Melody wouldn’t have lasted a month as a student intern, let alone a research associate. Imo, she’s a charlatan!
I hope this Melody character has some redeeming qualities because the only positive side of her I’ve seen of her so far is “would be a good agricultural fertilizer”.
OOOH! I get the joke finally: her name isn’t really Melody.
It’s either Lursa or B’Etor, right?
how do you…never mind I just realized the comic I was reading means this is pretty tame
