[0755] Real Men
└ posted on Monday, 25 January 2016, by Novil
To make it clear: The Warriors are a fictional team.
- Thomas: My favorite part of football is probably the camaraderie between teammates. It’s great how all the players give their best to lead the team to success.
- Thomas: One day I also want to play for such a professional team as the Warriors.
- Luna: Yeah, those are real men!
- Caption: A few moments earlier.
- Eric: Aww, look what Steve’s mommy packed for him this time! A smurf lunch box!
- Steve: Give that back, you big meanie!
I can’t even begin to express how hilariously accurate this must be. In other News… This is the first time I got first comment 🙂
Real men doesn’t care what other people thinks about their lunchboxes.
Two hours later… towel duel takes place in the showers. As this is a league-level game, both duellists wear their helmets.

Today’s comic of “Sandra and Woo” was brought to you by Truth in Fiction: Just Because it Seems Humorously Ridiculous, Doesn’t Mean Real Life is Even Remotely as Serious.
So how many people thought this was gonna be a basketball game because of the Golden State Warriors? XD
We usually get ridiculed by what kind of underpants we wore.
Oh WAAAAAAARIORS….come out to plaaaaaa-aaay.!
If he only knew how much a original Smurf lunchbox is worth!
@ Ragh:
Maybe he Doesn’t care about what they think but about getting his food back.
He bought that Smurf lunch box to Distract them from the Tightey Whiteys.
So far, it seems to be Working.
Are those players wearing shoulder pads? I can’t tell.
And behind the scenes, they’re just a bunch of dorks. Yep, sounds about right.
There are differences between a job and free time
Yup. What, nobody reading here has raised two boys in the same household?
It looks like they employed a quick an easy solution to the incomparable clothes. Anyway, it’s great that Luna actually seem to like to watch this and was not just pretending in order to get a date with Thomas.
I have to admit, this is the hardest I’ve ever laughed at this comic. Well done.

As everyone in Australasia knows, te Warriors play Rugby League – somewhat badly but we live in hope! Keep the Faith!
@ Sllimkered:
As a kiwi, I should object to that assessment of the “Mighty Voda***ne Warriors”, however, I feel that any use of the oval ball that requires body padding is for wimps. The larger the shoulder pads, the lamer the player 😛

There speaks a wonderful ignorance in want of experience suitable to demonstrate how those with the larger shoulder pads do most of the hitting while the “wimps” (i.e., the technical specialists like kickers and punters, who are not expected to get into the pounding matches within a yard or two of the line of scrimmage) wear far less padding than do the Mad Ducks and Bears “in the trenches.
@ Izumi Ryu:
yep. So much so it hurt my brain to see the football uniforms@ Izumi Ryu:
Yep! so much so that it hurt my brain when I saw the football uniforms.
reminds me of an episode of the simpsons

@ Tucci:
Actually, I was commenting from personal experience. Back around 1980, I was a member of an international military rugby team who were challenged by a US military gridiron team. Them in pads, us without.

Its just amazing how good women can fake interest in their man’s interests. For example, my ex
use to be an entusiastic Redskin fan, but she was pushing Cowboys after she left me. That’s the sin against the Holy Spook, for a ‘Skins fan like me.
@ Crystalgate:
What solution? He still wears the formal clothes, he just put off the jacket and the tie. Anyway, I’m a bit disappointed that the dialogue about the clothes situation happened offscreen. Depending on Luna’s reaction, this could have led to mortifying awkwardness or to a nice laugh for both. The best thing Luna could have done would probably be to express honest appreciation that he would dress himself up like that for her and to confess that she almost appeared in a fancy dress herself if her friend hadn’t talked her out of it. The worst thing would be laughing about him or just doing the facepalm without clarifying the reason. They both seem to be quite comfortable though in today’s comic, so I guess Luna handled the situation smoothly.

That was what I was talking about. He also rolled up his sleeves. He is still formal looking, but far less than in previous strip.
@ Izumi Ryu:
Guilty as charged. I don’t even care about basketball, but it was pretty impossible to avoid learning our team’s name when they were winning the whole thing last year.
Also, I think Steve up there is probably Stephen Curry.
I’m a middle child between two boys, and being a girl, I can confirm this happens more than you think. ESPECIALLY when the parents aren’t home. Tucci wrote:
Just a suggestion – Thomas’ line in the second panel “One day I also want to play for such a professional team as the Warriors,” reads a little formal in American English.
Perhaps “One day I also want to play football for a professional team like the Warriors,” or
“One day I also want to play pro/professional football on a team like the Warriors.”
I only re-mention football since we’ve never seen Thomas play (I think) – his actual position was briefly mentioned 4 strips ago though, so…
Ok I’m overanalyzing. Totally psyched for this arc!
@ Lunas:
It also might be more authentic to remove “also”
“One day I want to play for a professional team like the Warriors.”
Ok that’s enough from me!
Don’t make fun of him cause he’s a snirt. Just because he plays in at a lower tier then he should be at doesn’t mean you should austrasize him.
all-pro linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks, Bobby Wagner, wears a ninja turtle backpack basically everywhere he goes.

Oh yeah, American Football: A sport where perfectly normal, heterosexual men put on underwear that leaves their asses bare and super-tight tights, where they spends much of the game slapping/grabbing each others asses without anybody questioning their sexuality, while the Coach encourages all the camaraderie, while also throwing homophobic slurs at them.
GO WARRIORS!!!
Did anyone else notice that #38 appears to have already got his own back on #77.
Looks to me like the ball thrown in the last panel is already on a trajectory BEHIND #77 and, given #77’s forward momentum, will be well behind him by the time it should be caught.
#77 will look like a butterfingers!

Last panel chronologically speaking i.e. the 2nd panel
steve looks like tommy
Kid, you don’t wanna play for the Warriors or any other professional football team. Early- onset Alzheimer’s is nothing funny.
Between Thomas suddenly speaking formally in the middle of a football game and Luna’s gender stereotyping I’d say this is the most awkward Sandra and Woo comic yet this year :I
How to be a man, be born with a D, yeah that’s it, or get one in thailand, uh? trans? Thats BS
