@ Bruce Bergman:
Hmm… odd. I thought I had a pretty decent computer, I can even run Overwatch no problem… But oh well, I’m glad I’m not being pestered. And my laptop was Win10 when I bought it, so no annoyances there, either… other than the normal Win10 annoyances.
@ engblom:
before the subscription based windows gets released all those with windows 10 (and passible 7,8,8.2) will receive a “critical update” and then start to get nagged about the “new version”

Sorry, you probably get this all the time, but: why did you go with BSD? Do you tinker with the source a lot or something? Or are you upset about Lennart’s growing influence on the Linux world? Or is it purely to be able to say you run BSD?
Pfft, its going to take a lot more than that to make me “update” to something that isn’t compatible with half the stuff I use.
Also, I wonder what percentage of S&W readers use what OSes, and whether the statistics differ from those of the general public.
Let’s see:
-Main computer XP Pro, service pack 2, auto-updates turned off.
-“Work” computer (I own it but use it exclusively for work to keep separate from personal stuff) XP Pro Service pack 3 (came with it as a refurbished machine)
-Server (web and FTP) Windows NT on a used machine I bought for $10 including monitor! $_$
-Asus Eee laptop, came with some kind of Linux, most things I need to use pre-installed, still plays Youtube, about 8 years old now.
(Separate hardware firewalls used for each machine. ^_-)
The 3 that are Windows are too old of a version to qualify for the “upgrade” so Microsoft ignores them.
Then I had to get a machine with Windows 7 for video capture (requirement of the capture device), that one just won’t ever get connected to the internet since it’s a one job machine.
Though since Google Chrome doesn’t update anymore on XP machines and some sites
won’t work with anything but the newest browser at some point I’ll either have to accept
being able to access less and less of the web or get an additional machine of some sort
(newer WIndows, Linux/Unix, Chomebook?) to do that portion of my web browsing.
It took a while, but I managed to get Windows 10 to look and act like Windows 7.
@ Red5:
You just wait for the next update. I bet the will ‘fix’ that too!
I’m wondering how many people left because of ‘forth-wall breaking’ and how many new readers showed up because of Micro$oft-dissing! The last dozen strips have been a real shake-up to the community.
P.S. Thanks for voting! You didn’t let me down. 😀

I just looked up Satya Nadella and found that English is not his first language. Might this explain how he cannot understand the words, “But I don’t WANT #&*#*&#$*& Windows 10!!!”?
@ Red5:
How did you get rid of Win10’s new thinner window borders and larger (and uglier) corner buttons?
@Everyone:
The funny thing is that I don’t hear a single person complaining about Linux update policies. People are quick to razz on Microsoft, and quicker to forget the Ubuntu Unity fiasco.
And I dare you to tell apt or yum that “no means no”. Chances are, you won’t even have a chance, since most of the updates don’t require a restart. Or a confirmation dialog.
I notice that some people are saying that they haven’t received any update notifications. I can think of two reasons for that:
1. Their hardware is incompatible with Win10 and the software has some how recognised this.
2. They live in a country where privacy is taken far more seriously than in the USA, and where M$ could be subject to criminal prosecution for forcing an update on anyone in that country.
@ Sapphire225:
Turn off automatic updates of any sort?
Make it let you decide what to install. This means you’ll have to go to windows update and manually select it each time, but it won’t allow windows 10 through that way.
@ Red5:
If you make a tutorial on that you’d get a crapload of views, I’m sure.

I think you missed -or deliberately skipped over, more like- the reasons why people are incensed about W10. Namely, the FORCED UPDATING when people AREN’T prepared (because they didn’t want it for whatever reason). And the whole trickery and whatnot.
Stop being an asshole.

We already have two pages of rebuttal!
Already have it, absolutely hating it as of late. Slows my comp down even more, can’t shut it down properly, can’t use admin somedays…
And from the sounds of it, that isn’t even the worst part.
@ Sapphire225:
Actually Windows ten has been much better than 8 and probably the 3rd best Os I’ve used personally behind xp and 7.
this scene really give me a deja vu feeling with Ed and Dom from the Megatokyo comic, the hitman from Sony and Sega..
Wonder if its related??
@ Weertangel:
Oh man, that brings back memories!
@ Sapphire225:
GWX Control Panel. Removes and refuses any files related to Win10 upgrades.
@ JBennett:
no you can´t, not really – i tried to, and my computer crashed. dude at the shop told me thats normal, the whole ‘you can go back if you don´t like it’ is just a scam.
Honestly I use Windows 10 myself, decided to bite the bullet once and for all since it was probably going to be done for me eventually anyway and I have to use Windows for compatibility reasons (most of the stuff I want to use either won’t work in WINE at all or won’t run properly without hours of tweaking that I neither want to do nor am prepared to do, or runs at a garbage framerate in the case of games, IGP problems yada yada). Honestly I was pleasantly surprised. Hit it with a copy of Spybot Anti-Beacon, bear in mind that they aren’t aiming for 15+ years compatibility anymore in the case of games, and it’s actually not a bad experience. A lot of my Direct3D9 games took a bunch of little tweaks and patches to get running, and some didn’t work at all, and anything D3D8 or older is (I’m assuming) a nightmare to get working. However, everything five years old or newer worked fine right out of the box.
I personally still run classic shell because although they brought it back for Win10, the start menu is still garbage, they had it right with Windows 7.
Heh. Somewhere in autumn, I’ve messed up my system somehow during routine system maintenance (I did a lot of things, but my best guess is something happened during registers cleaning… system crashed and needed to restore from backup during that). I’m not sure what’s wrong, but I can’t install (or rather, update to) Windows 10 even if I wanted to without formatting my hdd first. Nobody knows what the heck is going on and how is it even possible.
It’s not a virus, it’s not a third party program… it’s just weird.
@ Fangsong:
I just disabled it… 🙂 Stupid microsoft DARES to shove it down MY throat? AHAHAHAHAHA!
Never understood the hate Windows 10 gets. It’s actually one of the better Windows OS’ I’ve used. Not to mention the fact that it’s about 10 times more compatible with a lot of older programs.
Mostly games.
Like Diablo 2.
@ Sapphire225:
I ignored those popups. I’m suspicious of anything that behaves like malware inserting itself onto my computer without my consent. I’m also suspicious of the APPARENT lack of profit motive. If they were trying to get you to BUY windows 10, that would make sense from a business perspective.
Trying so aggressively to make you accept a new operating system “for free” makes me wonder where it becomes profitable for them to do so… and while I can think of many ways, none of them are legal or ethical.
The day I came home and Win10 had gone ahead and installed itself WITHOUT my ever once indicating a desire or giving permission to do so, I stopped just ignoring it and looked up how to bleach those popups and pushy updates right off my computer for good. I recommend everyone do it. Go google “How to get rid of Windows 10” now.@ Sapphire225:
I also found Alice rather bland and a little annoying like there was something almost there but wasn’t. Also the plot lacked, it was very twisty and turny.but at least its opened the eyes of this ge&r1ationn#82e7;s teens to Alice in wonderland.

For more impact and eyesight-opening, magnificently curled lashes, use a heated eye lash curler. If you would prefer to make use of a regular eye lash curler, you could make an identical effect through giving your curler a quick great time of some seconds along with your hairdryer. This will aid to support the curl and prevent smudging.

In the event you receive your homeowner’s insurance plan from a organization which also provides well being or vehicle insurance, look at merging your policies. A lot of companies provide enclosed discount rates, so when you combine guidelines you could potentially help save a considerable volume.
