[0798] Back To The Future!

I wonder if it will be released before or after SONY’s emoji movie.
- Sign: Back to the Future – SONY/Columbia
- Talk show host: Tell us more about your “Back to the Future” reboot.
- SONY executive: Well, the original trilogy is horribly dated by now. Our reboot will make the franchise accessible to a modern audience again.
- Talk show host: What’s new?
- SONY executive: As a child of the 2010s, Marty no longer teaches his parents the wonders of rock’n’roll, but of social media and groundbreaking apps such as Snapchat™. There’s a really funny scene in which he carves an emoji into a tree.
- SONY executive: We also redefined the role of Doc. As a progressive scientist, he’s now always arguing in favor of clean energy and sustainability. In a similar way, the DeLorean will no longer be propelled by plutonium, but by the power of friendship and tolerance.
- Richard: I finally understand what it feels like to get triggered by micro-aggressions.
- Sandra: It’s Ye Thuza. She’s gathering a multi-ethnic terrorist group to blow up the SONY headquarters.

Crappy reboots and sequels are traditional in Hollywood. They’ve been doing that for at least 90 years. Most of them sink without a trace, but the Bogart version of The Maltese Falcon is the second or third time it was filmed. A lot of mass market movies were first made as silents, then remade with sound, then later remade again in color. I won’t guess how many versions of A Star Is Born and Ben Hur have been made.
You’re right that most of the new movies are derivative crappy ripoffs. But it’s always that way. Ninety percent of everything made in every field is crap, but most of it is mostly soon forgotten.
@ Lucario:
So it would have a “Lara” tag? 😉
Does this infiltration require a medic? I’ll offer any services possible to ensure the success of this mission.
Darn these movies nowadays and their cultural Marxism. Equality (such as lesbians) is cool, but let’s not go overboard. This may not be political correctness gone mad, but it’s most definitely political correctness gone kinda harsh towards perfectly nice people enjoying perfectly nice media. Truth is always in the middle, I tell you!
Am I the only one who’s actually kind of looking forward to the new Ghostbusters? I think it looks like it could be fun. Of course if it does end up being terrible then that’s fair enough.
” Reboots are the crap that happens because Hollywood has totally halted all creativity since the 80s, but it’s already made so many sequels, and remakes, and sequels to the remakes of the 80s movies that it’s running out of ideas for how to stretch them even thinner. ”
Hollywood is making so much crap largely because they’re terrified of taking a risk on something fresh. These days, it seems the good stuff is exclusive to Netflix and other on-demand video services. Webcomics and a good part of YouTube is much more entertaining or interesting than a lot of the stuff on TV or in theaters. I say let Hollywood continue on it’s path to self-destruction.
They’re really scraping the bottom of the barrel, aren’t they? I can’t believe they’re making films of Asteroids (old Atari game), Monopoly (board game), Candy Land (board game), and next year is a TV series of Stretch Armstrong (stretchy action figure). Also, they’re doing another Day of the Dead, despite how the previous remake was a complete flop.
Some other stuff I can’t believe exists: Human Centipede 3 (One movie wasn’t enough?!); Crank 2 (He was dead but he got better?); Battleship (Based on the board game?!); Sharknado 4 (Really?); Anaconda 4 (??); Birdemic 2 (1 wasn’t enough?); Basketball Wives (60 episodes?); Basketball Wives LA (53 episodes?)

At least plutonium is solid science. Powering something with friendship and tolerance is preposterous. Give Ye Thuza my number, will you?
@ Jim R:
PUH-LEASE! as if anyone in hollywood had any backbone left – wave with a big enough check and that rebooted atrocity is on its way!
Can’t wait to see how bad the sjws make me feel with this one
‘I finally understand what it feels like to get triggered by micro-aggressions.’
…No. You’re not having a panic/anxiety attack or trauma flashbacks, and this is not a micro-aggression. At most it’s cultural appropriation.
Get your SJ rhetoric right >_>
Reboots are fine, when the old version are either so technological dated that they prevent modern audiences from having a chance to get comfortable with the story. Or of the themes the plot turned on are dated that movie doesn’t hold up.
In many way that does make back to the future an ok candidate [not that we trust it not fo fall into hands like M.Night or Bay.] unlike Ghostbusters.
Reboots are good as it can bring a classic story to a new generation. But there has to be some ground where the audience can see an improvement if a significant portion of audience will have seen the last version. [which is alwas why older reboots are better]
Ye Thuza being a My Little Pony fan, Im really surprised she doesnt approve of a DeLorean powered by friendship and tolerance!
Just like they ruined the Ghostbusters reboot with all this cultural marxist crap. To be sure, all pop culture since at least the 1950s is social engineering, but at least until the 1980s it still acknowledged (or rather paid lip service to) positive cultural values.
It was kind alright for a reboot until the third panel. That’s when I decided that the execs behind the idea must pay. Where’s the meeting place for Ye Thuza’s multi-ethnic group?
Id join ye thuza
Ye Thuza for president! ‘She Does what we’re all thinking!’
No reboots, but the game on the PS3, et al via Telltale Games actually turned out fairly well.
You have to keep an eye on people like Ye Thuza — now that Burma/Myanmar is becoming a democracy, she needs a new cause….
does Ye Thuza call often on matters of ‘extreme social justice’ ?
I had to check the comments to see if it was true, because it wouldn’t surprise me. Sure, they won’t allow a reboot, but will that big bag of gold change their minds?
Yes, I could Google it, but I was going to read comments anyway.

There’s also a monthly comic published by IDW that originated as a mini-series, plus a side mini adapting the game in comic format. It keeps enough of the games to be faithful, but has some touches to keep it from being a retread (such as an appearance by Tiff Tannen who was alluded to in-game, but originally never seen).

Thank you reynard61. I wanted to give a correction so bad but told myself to let it go. 😀
Micro? Dude, there is nothing micro about that.
On a related note, multi ethnic means white people can join, right?
HAHAHA!!! They forgot to give Richard “Trigger Warnings”!!!
Keep it up! The whole SJW movement is so garbage
Anybody see the sketch by Studio C: Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens Footage Leaked? This reminds me of that, a lot.
That story again, Back to the Future is being remastered as an anime
for once i’m all for all for blowing up Sony’s HQ, thats just to horrifying for character descriptions to be made into a movie!
Also, nothing beats the old classic Back to the Future movies.
@ Mosstone:
An anime i can live with, at least u can go into many different directions that way.
That’s… one terrorist attack plan I could get behind.
….will there be chainsaws in said terrorist group? I only work with chainsaws, Ye Thuza.
Can she make use of a Canadian farm boy who thinks that a travesty like this can not be allowed?
Sign me up Lady.
To be honest I’m expecting Hollywood to screw me over with either a Back to the Future reboot or a Jetsons live-action movie very soon.
@ kaijinu:
Dude, you sign up and I’ll buy you as many of the latest Mega Hyper Death Gorefest Chainsaw 9000 model as you want. I’ll even throw in a chainsaw-shooting machine gun!
@ Cale:
Unless they’re bitter at Sony for starting this with Ghostbusters.
Please tell me this is just one of those joke strips, and it isn’t actually real.
It’s hilarious how every single time friendship is a thing in a comic, people start suspecting an MLP reference. As a fellow Brony, I approve! ^^
If I were in charge of a Back to the Future reboot, I’d keep it in the ’80’s (or in the new tens but with an 80’s tone), not for nostalgia, but because it was one of its identity traits.
But personally, instead of a full reboot, I’d rather make a complete re-imagining of the original and make any afterward installments an alternate timeline–er, universe to the original. Maybe I could even try to make the new Doc and Marty meet their counterparts from the original trilogy ala a Marvel multiverse crossover.

“(mocking) What’s it powered by, friendship and tolerance?”
“Uh, no. Hydrogen!”
And then later:
“Hydrogen makes travel and friendship and tolerance clean and green!”
“That only makes two-thirds sense!“
