[0819] The Divine Comedy, Page 17

With respect to readers who may look at our comic in conservative work environments, I was a bit skeptical about posting the original version of this strip in which Larisa wears a much more revealing outfit in the last panel. So I asked Powree to draw the revised version you can see above. I then asked our readers on Facebook and Twitter if I should also post the original version and everybody™ said yes. So here it is:

- Tablet: Calculate… calculate…
- The Devil: I gotta go now. I still have a lot of paperwork to do.
- Larisa: Bye. And thank you for all the help!
- The Devil: Not a word to Sandra! That may change the future and ruin everything!
- Larisa: Okay.
- The Devil: Here, take this.
- Larisa: What’s this?
- The Devil: Homework. You want to become a successful succubus after all, don’t you?
- Caption: Later.
- Landon: Uhm, Larisa, what are you doing?
- Larisa: Homework!
The revealing outfit fits the story line much better!!
I think she might have done it even without homework, but I suppose excuses are needed sometimes…
Learning his girlfriend is turning into a succubus might just destroy him.
I think the canon outfit looks good on Larisa while the more revealing one does not. I also think that it makes more sense for a succubus to look attractive rather than being scantily clad. Granted, most portrayals of them does go with scantily clad rather than attractive. I don’t have a problem with the revealing one, but I do still like the less revealing better.
I like the changed version better as well. I think it’s good that Landon and Larisa have a realistically portrayed relationship, but the comic in general doesn’t benefit from that kind of character sexualization.
I really want to see if she’s going to tell Landon what’s going on after everything happens (if there’s still a need too-I’m still thinking Thomas J set this whole thing up since shouting you’re going to do something horrible to someone in a room full of other someone’s just seems like a set up) so he’ll be in the know.
But more than that, I really want to see Larissa tell Landon about her condition. I think not only would it be a great character moment for them both, but we could see Landon’s reaction and how that effects his story arc as well.
And if wishes were horses, I would like to see a double date (or school dance) focusing on the couples of the series as that could be really interesting as well.
Larisa: *reads down homework list* Hmmm… aha… uh… hey… I was sure there was going to be something about taking Cloud away from Sandra, but I can see it anywhere… maybe I missed it. *reads down list again* No. Why isn’t it there? Maybe if I ace this homework, it’ll be in the next assignment! *rubs hands*
>:=)>
The changed version is probably for the best. Too bad she’s a minor…
Pretty sure the homework sheet just said “Drink champagne”.
Come to think of it, the whole succubus thing only works if she’s “of age”. What happens if she dies too young?

I always assumed it was widely known at their school.
Wub?
@ Brett Bellmore:
It is not, or at least it wasn’t.
I wish I had that homework.

Sends champagne and assignment sheet… 🙂 🙂 🙂
@ Trimutius:
Even Larisa seems to be blushing a bit in the last panel. 🙂
@ myth buster:
Wub wub wub
Dub dub dub(step)
Landon is about to suffer another processor crash….
@ Mogster:
Well, the job is to rob people of their soul via sex. You have to account for all tastes. Horrible, horrible tastes.
@ Mogster: I’m certain the devil cares not about human age laws, also in some countries the age of consent can be as low as 12.
@ athroughzdude: I’m still putting my money on Larissa getting stuck on this “homework.”

Can’t see why? I would fall in love with her all over again… =)

…and that leads to this:

Could this be the story we’ve been waiting for?
In the sexy outfit, it is apparent that Larissa is (just barely) marriageable by Old Testament standards.
It also appears that her boyfriend is the same age as her, and therefore in a substantially earlier stage of puberty.
@ Iron Ed:
Pretty sure that’s the champagne. =)
@ Mogster:
Succubi and Incubi are by and large demonic shapeshifters which appear in forms based on their target’s mental preferences. So it wouldn’t really matter in that case.
I wonder if Larisa thinks this little black dress getup is what Landon truly wants. Then I wonder if that’s actually true. She’s probably not entirely wrong; but she’s probably not really right either.
So, are the gang still minors? Like, i need to know whether or not I’m going to hell for thinking about the “after” part. I’m still heading there, just don’t need the list to be longer than necessary.
So the question is, does credit for the wubs go to Robert Lodge of #6 fanart placement? Or was it already thought up before you saw that piece?
As a famous admiral once said, “IT’S A TRAP!”
I wonder what Landon’s parents would think of her now…
Novil, does Landon know about Larisa’s illness? I would hope he’s been informed…
dat bellybutton <3
I hope all that wubbing is coming from the soundtrack of the Serbian Film.
Looks like Landon is gonna be wub wub wubbing one out tonight!
Agreed@ Crystalgate:
@ The Mad Monk: Well remember how his mind shut down when Larissa initially said she was soon going to want to start “experimenting.” It’s going to be that all over again.
Wait, so does the devil need to use pentagrams to get from place to place? Sounds awfully inconvenient.
@ myth buster:
Quite. I’m far from an expert, but that does not look like romantic music!
@ Brett Bellmore:
You’re forgetting:

Where is my Larisa? I have a lot of homework to do too… 😉

… Technically speaking, the more revealing one IS the canon version. The less revealing one is, as Novil stated, primarily for the benefit of readers who may be looking this strip at work.
@ Brett Bellmore:
From what I recall, it is widely known that she has diabetes but there is no evidence that the knowledge goes deeper than that.
@ Greenwood Goat:
sounds like some she might wanna do XD
Just a random thought, but it wouldn’t really surprise me if Larisa ended up wanting to have a kid as soon as she was able so she could be there for some of his or her life before she dies.
Mogster wrote:
Well that reminds me of
“How can you drive a car when you do not have a driving licence?”
“Well the engine does not require it to run.”
and anyway, time will not stop passing on even if Larisa is infused with Fel energies after her death… so… one year of professional training in she can have a legal go on half of the planet… /counting only places which actually have a law regarding that/

Passing on the Wolfram syndrome? It is a genetic disorder.
@ Paeris Kiran:
Really? I didn’t know that. Is there any chance that it wouldn’t be passed on?
@ Jetalone:
well, it is autosomal disorder in plain theory what you cold do is having a genetic test done on artificial conceived embrios and picking up those which do not have it. But it is not a dominant genetic trait, so that means other chromosome is also bad.
Which in this case you are choosing between a chromosome that has the condition, and one which is not good enough to surpress it. (a chance of having both have same mutations is really bad but quite improbable… such person would likely die before birth)
In general if second parent DNA works fine it could remedy the problem. But that is somewhat of an lottery…
Just a plain mathematical elimination- you need to screen for one damaged chromozome and eliminate the embrios that have it, and choose all that do not have it, any set of other chromozomes would be game.
(My education in this regard goes from the family history of polystic liver… (far less deadly…but actually worse since it is autosomaly dominant trait) I have 5 cousins… with me – 3 of us dont have it (me included), 3 have it. 50:50 on the genetic lottery. (my mother and both aunts are the carriers).
One of my cousins choose to go with above mentioned procedure for her kids to be sure not to have this disease. (the other two do not have kids yet).
Long story shor to the end… By employing lot of technology, energy, resources (akka money in our world) lot of things can be done.
(then again a gene therapy to fix this part of genome would actually likely be an only way… however the hell will likely freeze over before anyone around allowes such research)
Larissa is hot no matter what she wears!
There’s a small chance that she’d have a child with Wolframs, but what would more likely happen is that her child would be carrier for the disorder; giving it to her future children and so forth.
Interestingly, there are a few developments in the treatment of Wolframs; one, that they’re trying to get FDA approval to use a drug called ‘dantrolene sodium’ in Wolframs patients as its been shown to delay the disorder in animal test subjects and would very likely do the same in humans; two, there’s Crispr/Cas9 gene therapy which looks very promising in stopping the disorder in its entirity; although whatever degenerative damage is already done can’t be fixed by it. So while it’ll probably keep Larisas progeny from ever getting the disease, it’s still unlikely she’ll be cured before the more debilitating symptoms set in.
Wine, women… song was unavailable so Skrillex subbed in.
