Update [31 August 2017]: I made this strip available again today. However, please do no longer send Woocoins or any other emails at the given email address. I will NOT answer them anymore!
Here is the email address again: cicada-decrypt0r@yandex.ru
This was wayyyy too much work. Various things I tried didn’t work out at first or took longer than I thought.
I will delete certain comments about the content of the encrypted strip and various other topics related to it. We here at Cicada 3301 want the best, not the followers!
Woocoins don’t count as entry for the fanart contest 2017!
Update [Tuesday, 11:00]: We received 300 Woocoins already! By this rate, we’re going to be rich beyond our wildest dreams! Thank you to everybody who contributed!
Update [Tuesday, 21:25]: All right, the number of sent in Woocoins is slowly going down. It was a pleasure to see all the creative ideas and wonderful art! But I have to put an end to this enormous time sink for me a little earlier than announced in the strip. Point midnight tomorrow, I will take the strip offline. I will then release the hidden strip to the general public in one month as an extra update on 28 August 2017.

@ Charlie Spencer:
I’m… almost positive you have access to a free sketch app if you’re able to post on this website.
Anywoo, here’s my VOIDED WooCoin: http://oi63.tinypic.com/dzh0t2.jpg
I decrypted it without sending WooCoins 🙂
Nice riddle.
…I just wanted a comic to read on my work break, guess that was too much to ask so I’ll wait until Thursday…
@ ender1200:
Yes and yes. Somebody even left a hint in the comments.

If it was, that’d be pretty lame. I speak from past experience.
@ ratfox:
Apparently it is. Look at the tags.
Woo take the wheel! 😉
This is fun, drawing time
I love the fact that I didn’t need to ******* the *** ****** with some ***** ******* ******** to **** *** ******. You’re really awesome.

@ Novil:
Good, because my woocoin is kinda shaky from crying during the drawing. Many attempts were made. Only one succeeded.
Solved without paying the Woocoin. I’d post a hint for others, such as “the solution does not require any sort of password guessing”, but even that is likely to get censored.
Comments temporarily turned off while I’m sleeping.
I absolutely refuse to negotiate with terrorists!!
Especially th raccoon led ones
@ Commentary Ver.2.72:
Obviously I used a false email address. The site doesn’t send you a registration email and the address is never checked.
WUT?!?
@ Muchacho NL:
I hope you guys played; this was hilarious, and the encryption quite clever. I have an idea on how to do the second part, but haven’t spent the time as yet.
No, it wasn’t me!
I’d go for real money or real cute guys!
Paid the coin, learned stuff, figured out decoding script, fiddled with it, “Sandra tag” evades me! Curse you Red Baron! (shakes fist at sky angrily!)
When this came up only the picture itself was in the window and I spent several minutes trying to see the 3D image because, “Oh neat, a random dot stereogram!”
Now my eyes hurt. Still, I needed a good laugh at myself.
I ended up having to take a screenshot of the gimp picture that refused to draw the line, so the text is blue, then I took it to Microsoft’s 3d paint and used it as a sticker to slap it onto a coin I made. and thats it for me, spent too much effort, stress, and anger towards trying to make some stupid text curve.
I hate ransomware way too much for this to be funny.
Now that I know how to decrypt the comic I feel dumb… But I also had fun creating the WooCoin and of course encrypting it myself…

I used Wordart and copied it into paint.
@ oledakaajel:
Wait, am I the only person here that actually *drew* a coin, then scanned it?
I’m pretty sure if you decrypt this it will be a different comic from giving a woo coin.
Oh, well. I guess I’ll miss this strip. I don’t have anyway to draw, even if I could draw. I look forward to the next strip. Maybe I’ll be able to see it.
good comic, hate to delete it, but such is life
@ Vidad:
Well may be so. I used my most famous paint skillz for it.
@ Not a decyptor:
I did both and the comics are basically the same.
@ Not a decyptor:
Somewhat, the one you get with the woo-coin is slightly better quality.
ooh, I love magic eye!
Hacked – too easy to decode, you should have used some better encryption. If anybody wants to see that picture, you need to pay ME now. Send money via e-mail on goldwing@post.cz (only valid Larisa-credit is accepted)

@ Arthiem:
There is help online for this. The good news? It only took me 3 hours with the help. But I learned something about GIMP so worth it. To those who didn’t enjoy the joke? Sad.
@ Enkita:
Some of us don’t have the time or effort to spare to solve what amounts to a non-academic homework assignment, thank you very much. The woocoin thing was funny, but tantalizing us with a second layer of encryption that we’re on our own to solve is NOT, especially since the only other option is to wait a whole month to see if there really is something hidden in the image, and decide whether or not the whole thing was worth it (I suspect it will end with a lot of disappointment).
@ MarqFJA87:
I don’t understand this attitude. It’s like geting angry at a high mountain, that it is too tedious, and it “tantalizes” us. Nobody forces anybody to climb mountains or solve puzzles! If you like it, you can do it, if you find it not worth the effort, just move along to a different activity. It’s solving the riddle, that some people find interesting in this picture, if this is not rewarding for you, don’t expect anything better.
