[0916] Common Ground
└ posted on Thursday, 31 August 2017, by Novil
I posted the first entries submitted for our yearly artwork contest.
- Sid: For a start, the most important thing for you is to find some common ground.
- Shadow: Hmmm…
- Echo: Well, my favorite food is squirrel. What’s your favorite food, honey?
- Shadow: Squirrel too, I guess.
- Shadow: It’s so tender and succulent!
- Echo: True!
- Sid: I don’t like the direction this conversation is taking.
- Echo: Squirrels are so darn hard to catch, though. A man who manages to catch a squirrel would earn my eternal respect!
- Shadow: With your help, I may succeed, darling!
- Sid: Why does it always have to end like this??!
Maybe have some connection with the fact, you are part of a species considered prey, when your friends mostly considered as a predator… 🙂
Where is the extra strip, Novil? It’s been two days…
Well, someone called it.

The extra strip will be published on Monday. I already uploaded it. I was busy with the fanart contest and also didn’t want to interrupt the current story arc with the extra strip.
Oh, Sid… you honestly didn’t see this coming?
Shortly…
Sid: So, to resume, while you have a point of agreement here, it can also be a point of conflict. For example, if you caught a squirrel, which of you would eat it? If you shared it, who would get the best part?
Echo: I can’t hear you properly. Come down from that tree.
Sid: Your sensitive fox ears can hear me just fine. So, let us consider the conflicts that can arise in dividing up a kill.
Echo: Perhaps you could come and role-play it with us. As the kill.
Sid: That… might end up being too realistic. During couples therapy, certain things should stay repressed and be kept on the inside – such as your hunting instinct and my innards. *!!* Actually, try this: you are low-level grazers who subsist on grass, no threat at all to any animal, and no interest at all to an apex predator who prefers to take prey from near the top of the food chain.
Ruth: Nope, they look like ordinary predatory foxes to me. I think I’ll harvest the male-
Shadow: Om nom nom, we love eating grass! It is so nummy and green!
Echo: Er, yes! Meat makes me feel sick. Especially squirrel meat! Om nom, I do hope that nice, inedible squirrel gets rid of that dangerous apex predator soon, she’s putting us off our grass! Please, Sid! We’re sorry!

I love this! Always posting something funny or leading up to being funny.
@ An “Average” High Schooler:
Everyone who has read this comic called it, eating Sid is like a pillar of this comic.

That’s why there is a tag for it “eating sid”
Shadow and Sid are best friends, although Shadow wants to eat Sid once or twice a week, or arc. What a beautiful friendship!
Eeyup, called it.
A “man” who manages? Is she referring to Humans?
They’re working together again! What an excellent counselor!
@ Novil:
Well, you could’ve informed us of this tiny change of plans instead of leaving us to wonder if, say, an actual hacker had broken into the site and stolen the comic for realsies.
Or, more mundanely, if you guys got so busy recently that you forgot that you hadn’t uploaded the extra strip yet.
@ An “Average” High Schooler:
Uh, a decent amount of people called this.
“Why does it always have to end like this?”
Because otherwise it wouldn’t be funny
Yeah… the word “inevitable” comes to mind, as does “predictable,” but it’s still funny. 🙂
Ah poor Mr. Squirrel… Hope he’s quick on his feet. Doesn’t look like Woo is around to save him with a package of Oreos this time lol
There ya go. Some common ground. Mentally traumatizing Sid and making him run for dear life.
Sid is looking at this the wrong way: as long as there is a NEXT time for this to happen again, it’s not so bad.
This is an excellent reminder that a joke predicted can still be made funny by the elegance of its execution.
Also, @Novil, were you going to do a contest for the best Woocoin? And if so, do you have an idea for when that’ll be announced? (Or was a doof and missed it?)
Shadow, that’s not a way to treat a friend xD
Well, This was very Looney Toons
@ TheSwanDragon:
You missed it.
Feeling that itch to donate again now that the woodland critters are back…
Thanks. 🙂
Sorry Sid, but it will always be like this!
What if Shadow doesn’t catch it? Would he be in the doghouse again?
Or should I say fox house?
Badum tshh
Preferably common ground that doesn’t involve eating the counselor!
