Here’s the first strip that was hidden in strip #905 Cicada Decrypt0r 3.3.0.1. I promised to make it available to the general public eventually, so here it is. The next regular strip will be published on Wednesday.
I have posted the places 13 to 25 of our yearly artwork contest:
- Cloud: Wow!
- Larisa: That was worth the tedious climb, wasn’t it?
- Cloud: Yeah…
- Larisa: There’s still room for improvement, though.
- Cloud: Huh?
- Larisa: Imagine the whole valley engulfed in flames which reach to heaven and never go out!
- Larisa: Doesn’t that sound lovely?!
- Yuna: Yes, it does!
- Cloud: YUNA, NO!
- The Sun: Boom
- Cloud: Did… did the sun just go “Boom”…?
- Yuna: Maybe?

well… it is not likely unless it actually took over 8 minutes… I doubt that Yuna have broken the light speed just yet…
Would there be any other hidden webcomics in the future? I do love easter eggs.
@ Trimutius:
Yeah, that would be very unlikely from a girl, who accidentally reversed the entropy in her room.
I liked the cicada puzzles. Sadly i werent able to get to the final level.
I am also hoping that there will be an other event like this. But well we still have to figure out the book of woo
Larisa, that’s not the Valley of Hinnom.
While Yuna breaking light speed wouldn’t surprise me, it’s worth noting that sound doesn’t travel in space, so the sun couldn’t go boom.
ugh. don’t tell me Yuna is a Pyrophile too?
the difference between a pyromaniac and a pyrophile is one likes making fire, the other Loves fire (in a potentially sexual way)
Will we get to see the sub layer later.i couldn’t get that deep in the encryption.
@ Bottas Heimfe:
Yuna’s more a generic mad scientist.
The Sun did not go boom. The beam must have just superheated the air to plasma, producing a small shockwave. Just your average mobile tactical high energy laser disguised as a Super Soaker.
And everyone suffered a slow, painful death.
So what was the secret Sandra strip?
I love how “setting things on fire” is an actual tag.
About Larisa and her fantasy in panel 3…
She’d like it in California right now.
To avoid an XK-class end of the world scenario, it’s probably best to keep Larisa away from Yuna. 😉

Ahh but that’s where you’re almost wrong. A boom represents an explosion yes? And explosion produces gas (most of the time) so you would be able to hear a sound (search explosion in a vacuum by Cody’s Lab if you don’t believe me) but the sound would take a much longer time and sound much softer, and alongside that it has to travel through the atmosphere so while your original comment may not be factually correct, you’re right on the they won’t hear boom part.
@ Martin:
Better get on it. Pretty sure Novil said he’ll reveal the secret of the book of Woo at the 1000th strip
We need to go deeper. I seem to remember a thing on the original reply email saying that there were more layers.
@ Trimutius:
Actually, it’d be 8 minutes for the beam to hit the sun, then another 8 minutes for the view of the explosion to get back to earth, so 16 minutes total round trip.
Yuna’s already demonstrated a tendency to violate natural law – Note Strips 632-633, 776, 779. 782-783. 823. and especially 636.
So just because the sun’s eight light-minutes away doesn’t mean that Yuna’s weapon couldn’t have hit it instantly and done damage.
The real question is why she would be carrying it around? I thought she liked Larissa? Or is it just protecting Cloud from a predatory female and thus keeping Sandra’s claim good?
I am really impressed that Yunas beam:
Made it to the sun in under 8 minutes
The light from the impact came back in under 8 minuts
The sound of the impact managed to travel through the vacuum of space in less then 1 year.
Of couse this world had a ancient maya god revived via the sacrifice of a Virgin Cereal Tastemaster, only to be eaten by a talking Racoon. So, I guess logic does not apply anymore then in superman comics 😉
…. NOOOOOO
If, IF Larissa ever started liking the opposite gender, my money is on her going after Yuna.
And then it would be the end of EVERYTHING.

SAME gender not opposite gender my bad.
My god, Larisa and Yuna make perhaps the most terrifying duo in all the series. If they ever put their minds to it, even the gods would tremble in fear at what they could do.
@ myth buster:
We got married in the Valley of Hinnom- today’s our anniversary, in fact! It’s a lovely place these days.
ohshit
@ NewEraOutlaw:
I’d rather there be no more “riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma” kind of strips. I got immediately turned off when I got told that there’s a SECOND layer of encryption involved that I’m supposed to solve on my own, and promptly told Novil and co. that I refuse to play this game.
I never touched JavaScript before in my life, now I’m expected to self-teach myself how it works just to read a comic strip???
NO, THANK YOU.
Is this the last strip in this comic? If so, what a way to end the strip!
Tune in late Wednesday (New York Time) to see if the Earth survives.
She can cross “Boom the sun” off her bucket list

Haven’t we already had that arc? The Divine Comedy, over the second half of 2016.
I literally went back and wrote a decoder for this yesterday, and was surprised at how simple the encryption was.
‘First strip’? Were there multiple strips encoded in the original image?

Sixteen minutes. At the speed of light it takes eight minutes to get there and another eight minutes to get back.
But she did manage to accidentally reverse entropy in her living room once, so I wouldn’t put it past her.
@ Trimutius:
Actually, it would still take them 8 minutes to see that something is wrong with the su, even if that laser is faster than light.
Where is the new strip?
Trimutius wrote:
Not just that, even if the sun did go out right away, it would’ve taken eight minutes to be noticed. In short, if that ray traveled normally, it would’ve taken 16 minutes or so before lights out on Earth.
Basically, the gun’s ray traveled back in time and made the sun go “boom” 16 minutes before the firing time.
…Or this was all a red herring because the ray made something else (not visible from this point of view) go “boom” and the smoke is blocking out the sun.
Also, those who don’t wanna bother learning Java just to read a strip, you don’t have to. It seems like Novil is simply revealing them after a while, so all you gotta do is wait.
The decryption part just helps you see it sooner than us poor non-techie mortals, it doesn’t give anyone exclusive access.
That’s it, Yuna is too dangerous to be allowed to exist. I’m hereby banning her from the universe.
I really don’t like Larisa or Yuna anymore. o_o
You have to admit this would be a Hell of a way to end the strip.
Note: There is no “To Be Continued”.
It’s unusual to see the chracters that are usually around Sandra interact on their own like this, is it not?
At first I was wondering why I’m seeing a comic I already saw. Then I realized why I saw it originally.
No needs to worry! She can create an another one! xD
@ Trimutius:
Actually, 16 minutes: 8 to go, 8 to return (unless the ray of the arm goes superluminal)
Maybe I’m weird (maybe?), but I loved the sun’s dialog line.
The Sun: Boom
That’s where I lost it. 😀
@ Mystik:
Yeah, it was more likely just the atmosphere going boom.
Love the look of surprise on Larisa’s face in the final panel.
If she’d hit the ground, I’m picturing those scenes in Rogue One. I doubt there’s anyone who doesn’t know what I’m referring to, but mostly spoiler free just in case.
So just curious, how many people were able to decrypt the image that the original version of this strip led you to?
Found out what the effect of Yuna’s shot was:
