I hope this strip satisfies your sky-high expectations for the 1000th/1017th Sandra and Woo strip. The next strip will be published on Friday.
Also don’t forget to check out my 10 favorite strips from the last 499 published Sandra and Woo strips.
- Sandra: Hello! We’re interrupting the current story to celebrate the publication of the 1000th “Sandra and Woo” strip!
- Yuna: Actually, it’s the 1017th strip. Give or take two.
- Sandra: Excuse me?
- Yuna: There’s no reason to count the 17 strips published between the 10th and 26th of November 2016 as just one strip. It also makes no sense to count the strip “Freedom! Justice! Cookies!”, but not the strip “Mouse Cake Is Best Cake!”
- Yuna: Quod erat demonstrandum!
- Sandra: Spoilsport!
- Sandra: To celebrate the event–
- Yuna: Wait, there’s more!
- Sandra: Say what!?
- Yuna: The number 1000 isn’t any more important than 999 or 1001. The decimal system is an artificial construct that only prevailed for historical reasons. In the much more natural binary system, today’s strip would be numbered 1111101000.
- Yuna: As you can see, there’s no reason for festivities today. You can all go home and study for the physics test next week instead!
- Sandra: Cloud, asking for permission to whoop your twisted little sister.
- Cloud: Permission granted!
- Yuna: Hey, ouch! Leggo!
- Sign: The festivities will begin in the next panel. Please bear with us.
- Caption: NOT YET – THE END

Ah, the Asterix banquet. Goscinny would include it at the end of every book. And usually, the troubadour would be excluded, lol. I think Uderzo continued that tradition, but I’m not sure.
As usual, the early email about this has bad links:
invalid url (http:///images/artwork/1000-the-1017th-sandra-and-woo-strip-wallpaper.jpg).
The last 3 or 4 google group emails from “Sandra and Woo” have had bad URLs, all
were similar to the above 🙁
or were like the following, for the “ten favorite” strips:
http://0.0.7.226/06/30/my-personal-top-20-from-501-to-999-places-1-to-10/
…i.e., a really really bad URL!
Classy Asterix and Obelix reference.
@ wandrecanada:
Yuna tied at the tree branch in this specific manner is a clear reference to Asterix, yes.
@ BadRoad:
Just what I was thinking!
Aaah-hah-hah-hah-hah! (rotflol)
They’re sitting at tables in a circle, and they’re having roast pig, and Yuna is bound and gagged and dangling from a tree in an inconvenient but non-fatal way…
Now, what do those elements remind me of… 😉
.
.
.
pssst!
Asterix!
LOL again!
Oh wow even Butterfly.
Asterixhomage! Asterix will always be my favorite comic.

Are you also still a fan of Iji after so many years?
@ wandrecanada:
It is indeed a shout-out to Asterix. 😉
Haha spoilsports get gagged and tied up in a tree. I was looking for her to see if something happened and you didn’t disappoint! XD

You mean Seeoahtlahmakaskay? ^_^

Yuna. That’s what happens when you try to spoil a good party.
Asterix shoutout for the win! 😀
Just a pity that Yuma cannot do any physics at the banquet. I would have loved to see some of her experiments there…
My favorite character tied to a tree. Sniff. :,(
And she didn’t even try to sing!
That is impressively high quality for a jpeg image.
I actually started reading this comic when it was briefly in colour so I always like it when coloured strips make a return.
Did… did you just copied from ‘Asterix & Obelix’?
With this much Yuna bullying, she’ll definitely become a villain, at the least against… Administration!
@ Korakys:
Lol, reminded about lossy vs lossless, should the wallpaper be TIFF or PS?
Wonder if PCX or PIX is fine too~
Und wer hat das alles gemacht? Woo.
Thanks Novil and Powree for a funny, moving, complex and beautifully drawn strip. Congratulations on your milestone and may there be many more episodes to come.
While Yuna has a point, I don’t exactly agree with her. First of all, base 12 is the way to go so congratulations on strip 6B4. Also, if we didn’t celebrate arbitrary events, we wouldn’t celebrate anything. So yay arbitrary events!
So Luna is the Assurancetourix / Cacophonix? 😀
So approve of and love the Asterix homage/reference.
Absolutely love all the little details in the celebratory panel.
I’m not sure Sandra needed help to subdue Yuna, but she did have the element of surprise on her side.
Is the somebody smitten with Zoey?
Will be have something special for strip number 10000000000?
Congratulations and thanks for the ride.
Maybe it least for at least another 1111101000.
nice asterix reference you got there ^^
It is the first time we can see Luna in colour, isn’t it?
Yuna, you nerd xD

I had the exact same thoughts.
Ah, Yuna, binary is not any more natural than any other number-base. However, I would like to interest you in dodecimal. It’s just as usefully human-readable as decimal, and is much more useful as a base than ten because base twelve evenly divides into halves, quarters, and thirds. Furthermore, using a counting system developed by the ancient Babylonians, you can count to twelve on one hand. Use the thumb to point at the first knuckle on your index finger. That’s “one.” Count up to the end of your index finger to get to “three.” Four non-thumb fingers yields three times four equals twelve on one hand (when you’re thumb points to the last knuckle of your pinkie).
As well, extending a “mile” by only 1/8 of its length (which isn’t great for keeping it “close” to what it is now, but is close enough to keep human scale-estimates of distance similar) puts it at what we now call “6000 feet.” This would, in dodecimal, be 5000 feet, a much rounder number. (Note that dodecimal feet are 10 inches long.)
Finally, this also would make an hour 50 (dodecimal) minutes, and a minute 50 (dodecimal) seconds, because 60 (decimal) = 50 (dodecimal). It also would make the day 20 (dodecimal) hours long.
Forget the fight between Imperial and Metric. We should be fighting to change the standard counting base to dodecimal!

No, he’s looking past Zoey.
@ Congratulatioons on 1000!:
nice! And the little sister is hung up like Teru Teru Bozu….. reminds me of Minami-ke.
Who’s that making lovey eyes? And who’s he making them at?
Devil is discussing benefits XD
@ wandrecanada:
yup
Melody’s a redhead? I never imagined her as one.
i believe there is a typo, in the first panel,m she says it is the 1017, but its the 1027 strip
Well now that’s just silly. There’s an integer solution to 1000 = m^n with n>1. You can’t say that about 1001 or 999.
The question of what the concentration is of integers that are integer powers greater than 1 is left as an exercise for the reader, as I have not yet solved it.
@ Frank:
Pig farm.
@ Segev:
I guess yuna would reply to you that she can count up to 31 on one hand ^^ and up to 1023 on two !
Thank you so much for the nod to Asterix. It is very well done.
The Devil should be concerned about the hedge loppers within easy reach for Melody, I think. She’s more likely looking to create a vacancy than be recruited as a subordinate.
Does the perspective of canister-with-a-tap look wonky to anybody else?
Comparing it to the table it is next to it looks like two entirely different perspectives.
Whooooo!! Full Asterix reference… 🙂
Truly a party … 😉
Well, I wasn’t expecting to see an Asterix reference today. Touche, sir.
For those of us who like lists and order, from the 5 o’clock spot on the outside ring:
Melody, the Devil, Yuna, Ye Thuza, Jelena, Theo, Benjamin, Zoey, Luna, Landon, Larissa, Michelle, Cloud, Sandra, Woo, Seeoahtlahmakaskay and the kits (Canopus, Arcturus, Vega, Sirius, maybe someone better with them can easily identify which is which), Lily, Butterfly, Rocky and Rose, Echo, Shadow, Ruth, Sid, Taylor. On the inside of the circle, same direction, we have Richard, David, and Ivan.
An Asterix reference!!! Asterix is my favorite. I saw the layout and immediately went to go find out who was playing the role of Cacophonix.
I knew it seemed familiar!
See?!
I love it how Yuna is in place of Cacofonix 😀
Wait, is that Echo trying to eat Ruth trying to eat Echo? *getspopcorn* Dis gonna be good! XD
Love the picnic-pic. There is so much fun in the details! 🙂

hmmm, 5000(dodecimal) on my calculator comes out to 5*12^3(decimal) or 8,640(decimal), which is almost as much different from the 5,280(decimal) feet in a mile as a mile is from a kilometer.
OTOH, if we go to 3,000 (dodecimal), that would be 3*12^3(decimal) or 5,184(decimal) feet. Much closer to the current mile.
BTW, if dodecimal feet are 10 inches, that “10” is pronounced “twelve”. Feet and inches have no need to be changed for this system. ^_^
@ Razel:
I think there’s actually a term for that, where one can easily handle complex puzzles/concepts/etc., but struggle with the comparatively simple. Best example I can think of is in Diction’s videos of Subnautica, where he figured out that enamel came from a predator’s teeth in a matter of seconds… but took two dozen videos to figure out that the Fragment Analyzer analyzes the fragments he’d been collecting.
