@ Tom West:
I don’t think you understood what I was getting at…
On a side note, I wouldn’t say that being a straight white male makes life any easier or harder for you.
Not to be crude but there are certain advantages to the horse girl…
Wow, the amount of people in this comment section over-analyzing and being mad over stereotype men should avoid at all cost, is incredible.
This entire strip is a joke and told from the perspective of a straight young boy, of course it won’t show “normal” looking dudes being insane.
1- The gold digger : Yes, no men in their right mind should ever date one of these, they will act normal at the start of the relation, but over time will make “subtle” remark over how they would love something… Until they are no longer being coy about it and flat out demand it out of you. If you make the mistake of marrying one, you’re likely looking for a divorce in the future the moment you no longer have enough money to sustain her “lifestyle”. Not to mention she’s probably going to cheat on you with the pool boy.
2- The overly attached person to horses : You’ll never be #1 in her heart, ever. If you dare do something that may be detrimental to the horses, you’ll get what’s coming to you.
3- The drama queen : Everything is terrible, she’s always right, you’re always wrong even if you’re right. The world is coming to an end every hour of the day for her. She will get into fights with you over the tiniest thing that doesn’t matter, and she knows it, but she’s making a mountain out of a mole hill.
4- The insane woman : the overly jealous type, if she sees you talking to another woman, prepare to have your fidelity questioned. She’s essentially a Yandere.
Yes, these type of women exist, #4 even shows up on TV once in a while.
#3 is literally my brother’s girlfriend(with a slight mix of #4), he made the mistake of making kids(she took ovulating pills to make sure to get pregnant behind his back) with her and now he’s stuck with her for the next 16 years, they were already getting into ridiculous “fights”(that she initiated, every time) at the start of their relations, but he was dumb enough to keep going back to her.
I’ve met a #2 before, but it was with cats. #1 are the young women you see dating old rich men.

Yay, Yue! 🙂 That’s why I quit talking. It’s just a -comic-. It’s meant to be funny, not taken seriously. 🙂

Are you kidding?
Number of times I’ve had racial epithets thrown at me: 0
Number of times I’ve been threatened because of my orientation: 0
Number of times police stopped me because of the colour of my skin: 0
Number of times I’ve not been taken seriously in my profession because of gender: 0
Number of times I’ve been sexually harassed: 0
Number of times I’ve had to arrange my schedule so as not to be walking outside too late at night: 0
Number of times I’ve been used as a reflection for all men, all whites, or all heterosexuals: 0
Number of times I’ve been asked “where are really from?”: 0
Number of times I’ve reworded my female peers comments in order to have them actually listened to by management: Too many
Number of times I’ve been told by my teachers that girls can’t really “do math” or “program”: More than once on each.
Number of times I’ve been told “we took one look at you and realized you were the right man for the job”: 1
Number of times I’ve heard a coworker complain about “not having all these gays back home”: 2
And to be fair:
Number of times I’ve been annoyed that only the women’s washrooms has a baby change table: dozens
Number of times I’ve been offered advice by little old ladies because I was carrying my son without my wife in close proximity: countless.
Still, it’s not even close. Being straight, white, mail (and middle-class) is playing life in easy mode. The entire of North American society is geared to my needs. Is it a guarantee of my success? Not by a long shot. But it *is* a whole lot easier. And the statistics show it in spades.
@ Tom West:
Sigh. Mail -> male. No typing before coffee.
@ Yue:
> Wow, the amount of people in this comment section over-analyzing and being mad over stereotype men should avoid at all cost, is incredible.
Yue, if the strip was utterly a garbage dump of harmful stereotypes, then it would lose readers like me who enjoy the strong majority of the strips. But it hasn’t, so in many ways I am pushing back against tired tropes that *aren’t* particularly funny, witty or insightful AND cause social harm.
And yes, there are always people who do conform to the stereotype – but that’s irrelevant. What stereotypes do is cause us to mis-classify human beings (or anything really, let’s exterminate all the great-white sharks to save countless human lives!) causing tremendous misery.
It’s just a comic? Well, yes. So what?
*All* of our actions have costs and benefits. And one of the things that distinguishes adults from children (of any age) is that they don’t pretend that the costs don’t exist.
I don’t demand that everyone way the costs the same way. I don’t condemn people who enjoyed the comic. But I will point out why *I* think this comic failed the cost-benefit analysis. And I will argue with those who claim there is no cost or that comics are special and don’t have to consider the harm they cause.
type 2 can totally work out if your into the right fetishes and don’t mind wearing a bridle and bit X3
(plus it’s good way to stay fit)
Type 4 does not get the concept of safe sane and consensual so don’t bother…
she may end up making a conversion to Judaism easier at best… X3
@ shago00:
They tend to be really depressed and that’s why they like BoJack Horseman.
@ Tom West:
Wow sheltered places like that STILL exist? Do you live in Vermont or something?
Also, there is a ‘quote’ function so you don’t have to use the le me-me arrows from 4Chan.
@ Qrez:
I don’t think circumcision is the same thing as castration.
Sometimes, obvious things need to be spelled out,I guess. I’ve been in a relationship with the type 3.After a year and a half I learned that “better be alone than with whoever” is the truth indeed
When you start talking about cost-benefit analysis for a FREE webcomic strip, I think you really need to lay off the internet for a while and find different job. You’re too stressed you can’t even separate entertainment from daily job.
Yeah, the good old advice “don’t stick it in the crazy”. Men really need to hear it at least once per week. Women are with better social intelligence, so they don’t violate this rule so often… Tho I have a friend that dates only addicts. Drugs, gambling, etc.
@ Tom West:
You know why all these zeroes are like that? Because you’ve been conditioned to assume you are the privileged one, so even if something bad happens, you don’t think it’s the result of prejudice. Vice versa, minorities are being conditioned to assume everything is prejudice, even completely innocent acts. I’d say your outlook is the better one. Your assumption that nobody is gonna be prejudiced against you actively stops people from acting out their prejudices in your detriment.
I know to women of that “snippedny snippedy snap” kind (They are nice people and totally not crazy. OK, they are… a bit… But who’s not?) who are in love with each other and to be honest, if I ever saw young love which will last a lifetime, it’s theirs.
@ Brijeka Vervix:
Grown men watch the Saddle Club? Ew!
Assuming of course they’re watching it for the girls rather than the show itself. You do you.
Saddle Club was very popular when I was a kid so I watched a few episodes to see what the fuss was about, but since all the episodes quickly boiled down to: 1. Pine Hollow Broke 2. Horse is stolen or being mistreated/ needs rescuing and 3. Relationship drama where everyone fails to respect personal boundaries, I soon lost interest.
Horses are lovely creatures, but they’re not very bright. If I had to pick only one animal to be with me, it’d be a dog.
#4 is, in a scary way, funny.

Well, Toronto, actually.
> Also, there is a ‘quote’ function so you don’t have to use the le me-me arrows from 4Chan.
Arg! I have been cut to the quick! 4Chan??!?! *Choke*
Greater-than signs to quote are Usenet c. 1985, darnit, well before this new-fangled web-thingy.
Hi,
I’m going to bring my experience as well into line.
I enjoy very much your comics as it’s witty and well spotted most of the times, if not always.
But this time I was actually disappointed with the comparison between men and women – men supposedly being easier to spot when they’re bad, while women can be sociopath and easily hide it. It actually says that if women are in a bad relationship, with a guy that beats them, or is a sociapath, they should be able to spot it, so they’re responsible for being in that bad relationship. And on the other side, men are easily tricked into a bad relationship by women because those women are masters at hiding their controlfreakness or whatever else.
I guess it doesn’t work this way, and it’s a dangerous stereotype to send to people, and young people on top of it.
Here’s a short film made to show emotional abuse from a man toward his girlfriend. It’s in French (I am French) but has subtitles in English
The abuse comes from the guy. It’s clear she’s in a bad relationship, but no one around her intervenes. And most probably, the guy was very nice when they initially met. He’s probably considered a great friend, son, father etc. by people surronding them. But he’s a sociopath. And Marie in the short film will have a hard time leaving the guy, because, hey, he’s a little bit abusive, but from the outside it’s not much, is it? But it’s destroying her.
This happens all the time to women around the world. In the end, women get emotionnally abused, beaten, raped or killed by their partner. But you couldn’t see anything from the outside, could you?
So please do better than showing this stereotype around. I’m sure you can do better.

I suspect he’s quoting “Straight White Male: The Lowest Difficulty Setting There Is” by John Scalzi.

And a beautiful piece it is.
yeah that last panel is solid advice. If you’re afraid of horse girls, they’ll be able to smell it and will destroy you. Few can handle the raw power of horse girls.
But with the youngster available for nothing, West Ham aren’t the only side gunning for his signature.
