[1045] Back On The Menu
└ posted on Thursday, 27 December 2018, by Novil
Here is the obligatory link to our ongoing Kickstarter campaign for the Sandra and Woo: 10 Years anthology and the art book The Art of Sandra and Woo!
- Mrs. Honeysun: Praying won’t help, Lily. I’ve heard from well-informed circles that your useless goddess is on vacation again.
- Lily: I’m not praying for my kits, Mrs. Honeysun. I’m praying for you.
- Mrs. Honeysun: Excuse me?
- Lily: Don’t you hear the soft creaking of the branches above us?
- Mrs. Honeysun: So what?
- Lily: Don’t you hear the soft rustling of the leaves above us?
- Mrs. Honeysun: Get to the point!
- Lily: Don’t you feel the soft pressure on your back that feels like a small, carnivorous rodent has just landed on it?
- Ruth: Bear’s back on the menu?! Oh boy!!
RIP, Mrs. Honeysun
Bear is indeed back on the menu, specifically hunting kits gets you no empathy. Author wasted a name on that character…
Interesting… does this mean that some divine figure has a grudge?
the comic strip before this one, the one where the bear asks for one of the kits to be placed in her mouth, is missing.
How the tables have turned.
Daddy’s home! With a big appetite! Mommy and kits get to feast on the remains.
@ D:
Nope, there just happens to be a comic inbetween these two.
That crashed with Lord of the Rings and my brain at first read that as “Meat’s back on the menu boys.”
I wonder if Ruth and Lily worked this out as a long-term plan.
No fear of Ruth going hungry this winter.
@ Crestlinger:
Is her root cellar big enough? Is it cold enough? Bear meat is the best meat in the game The Long Dark but it dosn’t last long.
Heeeeeeeeerrrrrreeeeee is Ruuuuuuuutttttthhhhhh!!
Oooooh, mrs honeysun is in for a baaaaad time
…and there’s this rodent who keeps upsetting the food cycle, in a way that it keeps the predation order out the window or perhaps the door.
Hah, karma! XD

As far as squirrels eating apex predators, yes. 🙂 But they eat birds’ eggs and young bird not yet fledged and there is a youtube video of a squirrel eating a mouse. Sid should not have been as surprised as he appear to be here: http://www.sandraandwoo.com/2012/04/30/0372-junk-food/
Expected…
See here, thing is it seems our favorite meat eating squirrel has forgotten her gun. without a gun I bet if she’s quick enough the bear can indeed kill her. Also the hubris of calling a goddess useless so lightly. This isn’t aqua we’re talking about after all 😛
I just loved the eyes popping out in the last panel. Classic cartoon trope but so rarely seen these days, even in anime.
Either way, most likely RIP Mrs. honey. Though I hope there will be some mercy, as previously in another strip, Vega did try to eat Mrs honeysun, and she didn’t eat Vega but returned her to Lily with some admonishment.
Kinda OOP though, asking to eat Lily’s kit all of a sudden. Even if the raccoon goddess is on vacation, she’s gonna come back later anyway.
Well….THAT escalated quickly.
@ D:
It’s there…go back 2 days. There was an Xmas toon in between.
Honeysun probably won’t die here. Ruth wouldn’t be so heartless as to kill a bear that probably has a family and was nice enough to not come in and eat them herself. Besides, she has a name. People with names don’t just die.
@ The NPC:
It’s not just you! I think it a shame that the orcs and goblins seem to have gotten all the lasting quotes (and songs), instead of the elves and dwarves. The Peter Jackson movies exacerbated this, though Smaug still got his speech in.
Anyway, a Mrs Honeysun implies a Mr Honeysun, implies a Mr Honeysun looking for a bear to be his new Mrs Honeysun. By all rights it should be a weird Valentines Day for Sandra or at least Lilly.
@ sam:
my bad…
I was in a bit of a rush last morning, and I thought I spotted something. Thank you, Sam and Silver Fox, for letting me know; I’ll double check in the future.
Now this is going to be interesting.
MAYBE Mrs. Honeysun will be lucky and Ruth will just scare her off.
“Useless Goddess”
I didn’t know Aqua was here
@ oledakaajel:
I like how you assume Ruth hasn’t already eaten her family.
Looks like Bear’s back on the menu boys!
@ Irusake:
Beat me to it
Please give zoey a girlfriend.
Help me out native english speakers, but can’t “Bear’s back on the menu” be interpret in two ways? Either that a bear is back on the menu or that the back of the bear is on the menu. I thought it funny if it’s true because both fit.
Aren’t good neighbours a treasure indeed!
@ Crystalgate:
Similarly, Ruth could be said to have the right to bear arms, ie. wield a knife or in some instances a gun, or, to literally take the bears arms as a trophy.
Its twofer. Food for the whole winter and a bearskin throw to keep them warm over many winters.
I’m reminded of that orc trying to stop the other hungry orcs from eating Merry and Pippin. All of a sudden on of the orcs is killed and “MEAT IS BACK ON THE MENU BOYS!!!”
This is what I hear.
@ Crystalgate:
“Back” here means it has returned, rather than referring to a portion of the anatomy … as in “He’s back!” So, one could also say “Bear has been put on the menu again” as an equivalent statement..
Mrs. Honeysun, you kinda look like a taxidermy head on Lilly’s wall.
@ Crystalgate:
That apostrophe is very important here.
Bear’s back is shortened from Bear is back.
Bears back would mean the back of the bear or a bear.
Called it!
@Crystalgate. Your English is better than some native English speakers. “Bear’s back” can indeed mean the the back of a bear. I’m not sure if Norvil intended the pun, but I found the strip even funnier after you pointed this out.
I died of laughter at Mrs. Honeysun’s face in the last panel.
