In the comment section, we also discuss the new mixtape (aka trailer) for Final Fantasy VII Remake dropped by SquareEnix on YouTube.
There is also a longer gameplay trailer that explains the combat system in detail.
- Alexander: Hey, girls, I just dropped my new mixtape. It’s fire!
- Zoey: Isn’t Alexander just gorgeous?!
- Michelle: I thought you were only into girls…?
- Zoey: There’s a solution for every problem!

Funny… It fully determines your sex in 99,7 cases baring either more chromosomes then two which is always almost cripling or lethal, or miniscule amount of cases where one chromosome has defect.
Mammals and birds have sex geneticaly hardwired. (Mammals male have the two different chromosomes, birds females have the differing chromosomes)
if one of those chromosomes is deficient its possible some genetic remnats on other chromosomes that determine sex.
Those never ever geneticaly ovet power functioning dedicater chromosome.
Its remnat. Lizzards ambhivians dont have defined sex, only environment (like temperature) determine which genes get active and which wont do deternine sex.
50 :50 ratio is better achieved by dedicated chromosome.
It’s pretty clear that this dude is a troll, y’all. Someone trying to convince others of their (apparently multiple?) PhDs wouldn’t have quite so many grammatical errors. Plus, like, most of what this guy has said contradicts itself or is completely nonsensical. The burden of proof is on him, not us. I’d like to see him defending a thesis.
If he ain’t a troll, he’s a bigot. The sincere use of the moronic buzzword “fake news” points to both. Not worth the time either way. If y’all want to spend more energy making fun of him, just respond “lol” to everything he says and watch the fireworks. Engaging in proper debate with people who are arguing in bad faith is a fruitless effort without a large audience.
Sorry about all this, Novil. I’m pretty sure you were just making a silly joke and it never occurred to you how to it would come across to us trans folks. God knows we’re used to that. Or maybe even you’re planning to spin this into a multi-comic discussion of gender and sexuality. Either way, it really ain’t no big deal, just please be more mindful in the future.
Oh, and happy pride month to all other LGBT+ readers out there. : )
@ Novil:
I kinda get what you mean about Aerith having more of the ‘wow’ factor in her design, but I don’t feel they dropped the ball on Tifa. We only saw a little of her so far, but I’m still crazy excited for her in this game. If anything, I think the difference is just that they put extra care in making sure Aerith looked as good as possible for what they knew were going to be all the ‘first impression’ scenes we saw in all the early trailers of the game.
Of course, I am biased. Enough people go crazy for Tifa for her BIG obvious reasons, but I’ve been a Tifa fan since long before my balls dropped and polygon boobies could affect my judgement. The girl kicks ass, and I can’t wait to kick some ass with her in this game!

I only bring up such things if someone tries to insult the intelligence of others instead of providing arguments. It forces them to argue instead of hurling insults.
That’s no argument. An argument would be: XX and XY chromosomes don’t exist, I’ve never seen them! Then I would tell you to go to a lab and donate a little blood to watch your own chromosomes.
Now we finally come to the true reason of your aggression 😉 You don’t care about gays or lesbians the least. If they are beaten up or murdered by IS or Hamas you wouldn’t lift a finger.
You care about politics and the sucess of your most beloved political parties.

I think they are both fine. Maybe they could have toned down the miniskirt/boobs in Tifas case a little, but I don’t think – until now – that anything is completely off.
But I would need to see the actual game to really judge that. As I said, it could be that the switch from comic graphics to more mature graphics changes the whole mood of the story.

Yikes. I have to say this is the best/worst timing I’ve seen for a joke in a while, seeing as a boy was very recently murdered by his mother, after she had done what is implied in the last panel to the boy a year ago.
@ Arent:
lol
I know a few others have said this but we need to be heard
As a trans woman, this strip comes across as more than a little transphobic
@ autonomousAscension:
Nice to see another trans woman making this much-needed point. Also, is that a Homestuck name I detect?
Zoey…? ZOEY!?
@ TheRedWizard:
Ah, that arc aged well. This comic tagged Sinfest, and the creator of that comic just recently got under fire for being like, this super transphobic TERF.
*sigh* not even a webcomic about girl and raccoon is save from gender debate.
I’m not gonna lie, I lol’d at this.

Especially because the strip has nothing to do with transsexuals 😉 Zoey is lesbian & obviously makes little exeptions for very hot guys.

Political activists like you are severely hurting lesbians, gays & transexuals. You harass completely tolerant people & at the same time don’t care about actual imprisoning, murder or mutilation of homosexuals.
If you were honest, you would be out in the streets and hold a rally against actual persecution of homosexuals all over the world. Instead, you are trying to stir up prejudice and hatred between people who are perfectly comfortable with each other.
And in the end people will say lesbians and gays are agressive or insulting. Because they happened to come across guys like you.
So what we have here is a definition question.
Gender can either mean scientific gender (XX or XY), gender identification (male, female, androgynous), gender preference (masculine, feminine, transsexual) or sexual orientation (straight, lesbian, bi, algamatophilia, etc). These definitions are not mutually exclusive, you can be a female transsexual that is sexually attracted to objects for example.
So if someone uses a narrow definition of gender, don’t get angry at them. It’s the definition they feel most comfortable with. It’s not a personal attack, just them trying to make sense of a construct we made way too complicated.
Reading the comment section I know now why some people are called whiney snowflakes. It’s a comic. It’s a joke. You can find it funny or not but this qq this makes me uncomfortable is just too much. It’s not the real world. Get over it.
@ autonomousAscension:
There’s nothing transphobic about this comic. If you see anything transphobic in it, maybe you just start to rethink your view on things.
@ Alice Macher:
I like this usage of “social construct” 😀
I’m going to reuse it whenever I can!

So in fact the world has utterly no meaning since it means so much things it can´t be effectively distinguished what person using it actually means.
You know we humans developed language so we can actually communicate about real things within this universe.
thus world has meaning. The first sentece you describe has efficient term. SEX. Its NOT SCIENTIFIC GENDER, its just biological sex (barring very few exception). there is nothing like biological gender.
In practice the second sentence would actually cover your gender – how you identify – however since that is just a thing inside your head noone is anyohow obligated to considered that relevant.
And the last is your “Sexual orientation”.
Which generaly ties to the first term of what is your prefered choice for mating.
@ Paeris Kiran:
And yet still the same word applies to all those. And yet people are still using the word while they mean different things about it.
Which is what happened here and MFvGeel tried to help the situation by explaining to the people involved that while they might have or might have not been wrong about what they were talking about any way, they weren’t even talking about what the other was telling. Exactly because the word they both used has more meanings than one.
And now you, instead of berating those who use the muddled terms, decide to downtalk a person who only explains why the term is so muddled. ^^”
Kinda like person wanting to give a cake, other getting angry because he wanted it, not realising that the first one could just give it to them too, third one coming in to explain just that and then fourth attacking the third for not having said what the first should have said in the first place before this all even happened. XD
Your gender and FInal Fantasy debate distracts from something much more wrong about the strip:
Which person that age has access to something old and outdated like a CD player?
Which musician that age puts his music onto something old and outdated like a CD?
Even if he wouldn’t upload his music to the cloud (not Sandras bf but the internet…) and share the links via phone, he would at least get fancy colored USB sticks to put the files onto them.
@ MFvGeel: So on paper that’s a fairly decent live and let live attitude, in practice though, this is more than just some people having too simple a definition of male and female. We have people actively going after others who don’t fit their simplified mold. This topic never would have come up here if Arent hadn’t used his comment to state his misinformed opinon on dysphoria.
@ Rico:
Hipster. It just wont sound authentic otherwise. XD
@ hellsheep:
You: People critiquing this comic are snowflakes
also you: *personally upset enough about the people making points that you write your own comment whinning about them*
@ Rico:
Getting to the true issues
@ Paeris Kiran:
No, you’re still relying on antiquated attempts at science. More recent studies have found more variety among people without obvious expressions of difference than were previously believed. Then using words like “defect” or “deficient” reveals itself to be more a prejudice, a belittling of those who don’t fit an outdated preconception.
@Z
@Arent
@Grace
For the record, the definition of “Gender” is what is sociably accepted/perceived. This is how you see yourself and/or also how others perceive you through social interactions and even standing. Look up the definition of the word.
As for the definition of “sex” (as associated with gender), this is your biological aspect, as assigned to a person by genetics and biological functions for reproduction. If you are sexually a male than you can never produce eggs. If you are sexually female, you can never produce sperm. (At least as of our current level of technology and as dictated by genetic coding and physical biological structure.) (Of course, also barring malformed parts, damage, etc.)
This actually means that one can have a sex, but their gender be different. Sex is their biological aspect and as no relation to gender. Sex can not be changed (with current standing technology and not without altering genetic code), but gender can be altered.
Also, do not confuse Gender with Sexual Orientation. Your gender can not be Pan, bi, straight, etc. Those would be classified as your sexual orientation. Gender can be male, female, neuter, etc.
It seems like “Sex reassignment surgery” should be relabeled as “Gender Reassignment Surgery” for more proper and accurate terminology. Technically speaking, with a smidgen of humor.
Rather than argue over terms being misused, lets just enjoy the comic for what it is: A funny comic not to be taken too seriously.

Ofc I don’t have any right to voice that I am annoyed by that. True.
I expected this, but this was unexpected.

The laws of nature can not be “outdated”. They are the same now as they were 2000 years ago.
Terms like “progressive” or “antiquated” do not apply to natural science – either a statement is supported by experiment or it is not.
Also, please do not try to stir up conflicts and hatred. You know perfectly well that the Y chromosome in your example was defect. Instead of constructively discussing your paper you now pretend that the statement “the Y chromosome is defect” would be a demeaning of people with a defect chromosome.
How often did you hold rallies against homosexuals being beaten up, imprisoned or killed in various countries? And how often did you complain that someone called a defect Y chromosome defect?
You don’t care about actual discrimination and actual homophobia. You are a political activist that tries to promote certain political views and political parties.
@ Grace:
Percentage amount of cases compared to general populace please. I am fairly certain you can find few people with XX chromosomes that will be male among the 8 billion. (And in very rare case actually be able to sire female only offspring)
likelihood of this being geneticaly dominant trait so pairing with a regular female to produce same offspring will be 50:50 even at amazing level of chance of the former.
In fact ist more likely to have XY female since y chromosome has redundancy for defects. Such is virtually always sterile person. Or very rarely it can be just insensivity of the body to testosterone.
The main thing – npthing of this is anyhow relevant to 99,7 percent of humans. Its just rare oddities nothing else.
These covet people who have mimor damage on normal genetic code.0.1 percent tops
Ifact more serious damage like 3 chromosomes instead of 2 or one missing happen far more often. Those people generaly will not care less for any of this as their bodies barely let them live. And if so not for long.

Wow! If only I had some popcorn before I read through the comment section! That was way better than the (okay) comic. 🙂
We had it all: transgender people, annoyed scientists, trolls, people trying to make peace, people attacking said people, snowflakes calling other snowflakes “snowflakes”, and in between – mostly untouched by all of this – people happily discussing about FF VII to add some surrealistic flair to it.
Sooooooo cooool! 😀
Ok, I dig in and sum up everything so far: you’re all (a bit) right.
But most importantly: Novil is not transphobic, but accidentially stepped on some feet, like he had already stepped on the feet of hunters, journalists, feminists, mathematicians and a couple of other mostly honorable professions – which happens when you write a funny comic strip. As I am in one of these groups (won’t tell you which), I can ensure you: one can still laugh about it and forgive him. And most of them will do!
Arent wrote:
Dysphoria isn’t about behavior so much as it’s about a severe disconnect between one’s body and one’s mental image of oneself. The problem is that one’s physical body is traditionally connected to one’s gender identity, and the irreconcilability of that often leads to dysphoria (this is not the only cause or most common cause, but it is a cause).
You get females who say “I’m a boy” but because of words meaning multiple things you begin a negative feedback loop. Asserting that boys MUST have XY chromosones doesn’t help. You’re only repeating your personal definition, which doesn’t match theirs, and that’s not helpful to either of you. You’re not talking WITH each other so much as AT each other, at that point.
Arguing about definitions is also idiotic, so please don’t do that. Words are fluid. They mean anything you want. A common understanding of a word’s definition doesn’t mean that word’s definition is fixed.
Ultimately, I’d expect a “natural” scientist to understand that mutations and mix-ups of biochemistry makeup and arrangement occur naturally, and that you can’t expect that everything remains 100% consistent from individual to individual, as that’s not how nature works. Your PHD doesn’t prevent you from being wrong or biased. It doesn’t stop you from misunderstanding the people you talk to. And it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t second-guess your assumptions.
Basically, if you want to argue about this, be more mindful of things outside your field (and inside your field for that matter), and try harder to understand what’s being said, even if they use different definitions for words.

When did he step on the feet of mathematicians?

The laws of nature can not be outdated, but our understanding of those can. For example, Newton’s theory of gravity is outdated now, because we found out that it doesn’t correctly describe laws of nature. The difference is small unless very massive objects are involved, but it’s always there.
Similarly, we found out that having or not having the Y chromosome doesn’t determine person’s biological sex. Sure, USUALLY it does, but not always.
And there is even more progress in psychology. I mean, sure, we lacks quantum theory of gravity, but we can still predicts how a star would behave much better than how a person would behave. That, by itself, suggests our understanding of psychology has big holes in it.
@ autonomousAscension:
Hell yeah! Homestuck will never die. Also, lol at this whole thing. Imagine being cis and trying to lecture trans folks on what gender is and isn’t… or what is and isn’t transphobic… truly choice clownery on display here.
My 2 cents. Warning, sarcasm ahead: yes, as a woman who is infertile, has excess testosterone, a deep voice AND thyroid/pituitary issues; I just LOVE people telling me what I am, while calling me sir or mister. I know what I am genetically, and thankfully my brain matches my genetics. However, the expression of my genes (hormones etc) DONT. Genetics and epigenetics don’t always play fair. I am not a “functional female” as I cannot bear children. Does this make me less in the eyes of some people? Yes. Do I give even half a shit for their opinions? No. Thank you
Ah, so Zoey had adopted my Cousin Tabitha’s philosophy of male-female interaction. Although Tabby preferred her steel-toed boots to power tools.
It’s not uncommon for young people to get gender-odd crushes. It’s part of the maturation process. No doubt she’ll get over it and resume her passion for girls soon.
Zoey is definitely Bi xD I mean, she used to crush on Cloud, silly girl! But also… when did Michelle become okay with Zoey’s thing for girls? Last I remember, her last statement was “gross lesbos” or something..?
MFvGeel wrote:
The main problem is that some people don’t get that the genetic definition of gender does not necessarily match the scientifically proven statistical differences between male and female. These depend mostly on your hormones. So, while genetic manipulation on grown adults is more of a magical concept in the vein of El Goonish Shive, hormone replacement treatments and cosmetic surgeries may be quite rudimentary right now, but are subject to constant improvement.
While other people are even crazier, and don’t believe that there even are any scientifically proven statistical differences between male and female. These science deniers outrage me a little more, because they are typically left-wing, like me. The others just don’t know enough for the quite complex system that is the human body.

You have my utmost respect! As I have people with thyroid issues in my family, I know very well how that alone is difficult to deal with.

No, Newtons theory of gravity is not “outdated”, it has just been expanded. We still use his equations, children are still taught mechanics in school.
People who do not argue with experiments to prove a certain statement, but instead use words like “progressive” or “outdated” or even start to cite “authorities” to prove their point, simply show they they have no natural scientific world view. They judge the truth of a statement by its age, or by authority, not by experiment.
