Or maybe even you’re planning to spin this into a multi-comic discussion of gender and sexuality. Either way, it really ain’t no big deal, just please be more mindful in the future.

I kinda get what you mean about Aerith having more of the ‘wow’ factor in her design, but I don’t feel they dropped the ball on Tifa. We only saw a little of her so far, but I’m still crazy excited for her in this game. If anything, I think the difference is just that they put extra care in making sure Aerith looked as good as possible for what they knew were going to be all the ‘first impression’ scenes we saw in all the early trailers of the game.
Of course, I am biased. Enough people go crazy for Tifa for her BIG obvious reasons, but I’ve been a Tifa fan since long before my balls dropped and polygon boobies could affect my judgement. The girl kicks ass, and I can’t wait to kick some ass with her in this game!

Gender can either mean scientific gender (XX or XY), gender identification (male, female, androgynous), gender preference (masculine, feminine, transsexual) or sexual orientation (straight, lesbian, bi, algamatophilia, etc). These definitions are not mutually exclusive, you can be a female transsexual that is sexually attracted to objects for example.
So if someone uses a narrow definition of gender, don’t get angry at them. It’s the definition they feel most comfortable with. It’s not a personal attack, just them trying to make sense of a construct we made way too complicated.
Reading the comment section I know now why some people are called whiney snowflakes. It’s a comic. It’s a joke. You can find it funny or not but this qq this makes me uncomfortable is just too much. It’s not the real world. Get over it.

Your gender and FInal Fantasy debate distracts from something much more wrong about the strip:
Which person that age has access to something old and outdated like a CD player?
Which musician that age puts his music onto something old and outdated like a CD?
Even if he wouldn’t upload his music to the cloud (not Sandras bf but the internet…) and share the links via phone, he would at least get fancy colored USB sticks to put the files onto them.
@ MFvGeel: So on paper that’s a fairly decent live and let live attitude, in practice though, this is more than just some people having too simple a definition of male and female. We have people actively going after others who don’t fit their simplified mold. This topic never would have come up here if Arent hadn’t used his comment to state his misinformed opinon on dysphoria.

No, you’re still relying on antiquated attempts at science. More recent studies have found more variety among people without obvious expressions of difference than were previously believed. For the record, the definition of “Gender” is what is sociably accepted/perceived. This is how you see yourself and/or also how others perceive you through social interactions and even standing. Look up the definition of the word.
As for the definition of “sex” (as associated with gender), this is your biological aspect, as assigned to a person by genetics and biological functions for reproduction. If you are sexually a male than you can never produce eggs. If you are sexually female, you can never produce sperm. (At least as of our current level of technology and as dictated by genetic coding and physical biological structure.) (Of course, also barring malformed parts, damage, etc.)
This actually means that one can have a sex, but their gender be different. Sex is their biological aspect and as no relation to gender. Sex can not be changed (with current standing technology and not without altering genetic code), but gender can be altered.
Also, do not confuse Gender with Sexual Orientation. Your gender can not be Pan, bi, straight, etc. Those would be classified as your sexual orientation. Gender can be male, female, neuter, etc.
It seems like “Sex reassignment surgery” should be relabeled as “Gender Reassignment Surgery” for more proper and accurate terminology. Technically speaking, with a smidgen of humor.
Rather than argue over terms being misused, lets just enjoy the comic for what it is: A funny comic not to be taken too seriously.

likelihood of this being geneticaly dominant trait so pairing with a regular female to produce same offspring will be 50:50 even at amazing level of chance of the former.
In fact ist more likely to have XY female since y chromosome has redundancy for defects. Such is virtually always sterile person. Or very rarely it can be just insensivity of the body to testosterone.
The main thing – npthing of this is anyhow relevant to 99,7 percent of humans. Its just rare oddities nothing else.

Ok, I dig in and sum up everything so far: you’re all (a bit) right.
But most importantly: Novil is not transphobic, but accidentially stepped on some feet, like he had already stepped on the feet of hunters, journalists, feminists, mathematicians and a couple of other mostly honorable professions – which happens when you write a funny comic strip. As I am in one of these groups (won’t tell you which), I can ensure you: one can still laugh about it and forgive him. And most of them will do!

Warning, sarcasm ahead: yes, as a woman who is infertile, has excess testosterone, a deep voice AND thyroid/pituitary issues; I just LOVE people telling me what I am, while calling me sir or mister. I know what I am genetically, and thankfully my brain matches my genetics. However, the expression of my genes (hormones etc) DONT. Genetics and epigenetics don’t always play fair. I am not a “functional female” as I cannot bear children. Does this make me less in the eyes of some people? Yes. Do I give even half a shit for their opinions? No. Thank you

It’s not uncommon for young people to get gender-odd crushes. It’s part of the maturation process. No doubt she’ll get over it and resume her passion for girls soon.
