[1170] Remake

- Hitomi: Did you play Final Fantasy VII when it came out?
- Richard: Yes. And there were lots of things that I didn’t like. The tedious battles, the goofy character models, the broken English…
- Richard: But the characters felt so alive. As if they were your real friends who went on this grand, marvelous adventure with you.
- Richard: I know someone who’s a much, much bigger fan than me, though.
- Cloud: Mom, I don’t think it’s safe to inject the Remake directly into your veins.
- Yuna: Not half as bad as mako poisoning…
I wondered when we might see a strip mentioning the remake.
Ye Thuza looks very happy and Yunas science is as ridiculous as always. Did she already patent this tech and when can we buy it for ourself?
It’s Radioactive!
That can’t be good!
Now THAT’S the way you relive a game through its Remake! XD
Umm… Yuna, can you give me the same treatment? Your ma looks like she is on cloud 9 right now.

Intentional?
Ye Thuza has moved into The Cloud.
Is it possible to overdoes on Final Fantasy?
…Mako poisoning?
Well, now we know why she won’t bat an eye at Sandra’s plan.
@ Nikary Flare:
Condition in the game, although not one gotten via gameplay. Mako being basically a form of energy taken from the planet. I’d go into more detail, but the exact nature of Mako leads to a lot of spoilers very quickly (and in and of itself is a spoiler).
On most commics I would comment that there is no way to inject DVD into your blood which would be safe AND actually depend on what is recorded on the DVD but I suspect that Yuna is actually capable of developing some way which works …
If you’re going with the injection method, remember that a second and eventually a third disk will be following (probably over the next 3 to 5 years). Take care that the infusion doesn’t settle in one location, or following disks will fail to integrate and may cause circulatory issues.
C’mon, Cloud! That’s quiter talk!
@ AnotherBear:
You sure you want to use that phrasing?
is it safe to assume that Richard managed to clear up the misunderstanding from two strips ago off-panel?
Can definitely relate to Ye Thuza here. I’ve been playing the remake since it came out and it is better than I thought possible. It’s not PERFECT, but it’s really damn good.
She lived her final fantasy…
This is not her. For me, Ye Thuza is a true ninja warrior, not a gamer.

She literally named her son Cloud after Final Fantasy 7, basically the very first insight into her character ever in this comic. This is exactly her and that’s the entire joke behind the strip: mentioning FF7 and someone being a bigger fan of it, then cutting to said person as the child they named after the game expresses concern over their love of it.
It is actually possible for people to have hobbies and not just be killing people spec ops style 24/7. In fact it’s a sign of her having moved on from her sad past that she is able to partake in and enjoy something like a video game.
Cloud. “Okay Luna, seriously now. The game disc is solid, and I can see it’s not melting…”
Luna: “Of course not! We haven’t even gotten to play it yet. I’m not going to damage it.”
Cloud: “Yeah… so what then is the liquid you’re pumping into Mom’s veins?”
Luna: “Heh… yeah, the game disc is just for show. I wanted her to feel something a bit nice though, so I took some old Fentanyl and diluted it with about 50 parts water. She should be feeling a mild euphoria along with all her imagined excitement about the game.”
Cloud: “Luna… 1/50th strength Fentanyl is called ‘heroin’. Jesus Christ!!!!”
Luna: “…. Oh. Oopsie?”
@ argentlupus:
Note I said ‘The’ Cloud, not ‘her’ Cloud.
@ MarqFJA87:
Despite Hitomi’s idea about “where this is going” she accepted the invitation and looks relaxed enough. They both do, and look happy. So the misunderstanding seems cleared up.
It’s just a shame that the remake isn’t actually a pound for pound, updated remake as we were promised by Square, but rather a side story that requires you to literally know the entire premise of FF7, Advent Children and Crisis Core to have any idea of what the hell is going on. And even if you do know what is going on, it changes so much that it might as well just be a different game. It’s going through the motions but changing everything.

Nope but it works
Yeah, but there is such thing as radiation poisoning.
@ Hinoron:
I don’t think she would fuck up like that
I mean… her son’s name is Cloud…

Or, at least, in 7th Heaven…
I mean if it does work she’ll be able to experience the game to it’s maximum potential. I just hope she can handle THAT scene with all five senses.
Spoiler: WE DON’T KNOW IF THE SPOILER IS TRUE ANYMORE.
Ah, delicious revenge is best served icy, and in tiny doses only to those who truly deserve it
@ Nikary Flare:
Its a reference to Final Fantasy 7, in which an energy source called Mako exists. Exposure to it can result in Mako poisoning, which has a variety of effects.
Honestly, that’s why I preferred Final Fantasy 8. All the companionship and camaraderie, none of the janky character models.
If you’d tell me Yuna would eventually be responsible for the creation of the Shinra Electric Company. I wouldn’t be shocked tbh.
