- Richard: I’m too late anyway…! The plane’s already taken off.
- Website: Delay: 4 hours, 17 minutes.

Things turning out as I expected. Thankfully by now their mutual feelings seem to have gotten strong and this twist may easily enable their fulfilment. Richard had a video call with Sandra from Hitomi’s house so it should be easy for them to stay in contact and organize her transfer to Europe. Sandra already seemed to like her and Hitomi seems to have just the right personality to get along fine with her, Woo, Cloud, Larisa, and the rest of the gang.
I really don’t get why people seem so obsessed with pairing people with romantic partners with the same exact circumstances and determined to pour negativity on genuine romances with an age difference. Besides, the difference here does not seem so great to begin with, in all likelihood it’s probably a dozen years or so at most, and trivial at their age.
I also don’t get the “middle age crisis” stuff. Richard has been widowed and dutifully focusing on his job and taking care of Sandra for years. The only time we saw him half-heartedly dating a coworker it turned out a disaster due to her having potential serial-killer leanings. He deserves a new chance for happiness, Hitomi does too after the Yukiya blunder, and she looks like a keeper of a stepmom for Sandra. Cultivating the romance opportunity that desitny threw in your lap in the middle of a forced absence was the right thing to do for everyone.
Sandra is obviously able to take care of herself if need be for a few days and she did the right thing by choosing to take shelter with Cloud’s parents who are close friends until he is able to come back.

It’s even more odd when some of my fellow MLP fans see the believe in the friendzone/see it as bad. I mean you’d think they’d believe in the Magic of Friendship, amirite?:-).
@ ValdVin
There was the Group hug but of course wholly different situation. The ship seems developing fine in terms of chemistry and intimacy. As Hitomi herself acknowledged, they seem highly compatible enough that anyone faimiliar with romantic movies could predict how things would turn out the moment they agreed to go on a date.
@ Cromm
No real risk of friendzoning by now. They have been doing all the right things and seem just a step away from French kissing by now. Of course, long distance always is a serious threat to romance but the threat of sudden separation may add a lot of urgency to realization of, and acting on, one’s feelings. It’s not like they seem to face any serious long-term difficulty at becoming a couple. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if Hitomi ends up managing an anime-themed maid cafe in her husband’s city?
Would an animé themed café work anywhere but Japan? I ask because I’m pretty old and animé isn’t my thing at all.
@ AnotherBear:
anime/otaku themed cafes such as Maid cafes can do well but it requires a large enough asian population, that is familiar with the idea. most of them I know about are managed by otaku fans. they set up temporary cafes at conventions, and offer catering for small functions.
The professional ones are usually found in communities with a high asian population.
as an example in Toronto Canada there is a Cheesecake cafe, where the waitresses wear a uniform that looks like the uniform of a french maid. Based on a news article, they don’t do the whole otaku thing, the waitresses sing on a stage a few times a day, but over all it’s just a cafe that specializes in cheesecake. they aren’t actually cosplaying the maid personality.
It’s a screen door… she can just open it… use the handle.
I can get behind that as a marginally less fourth-wall-breaky alternative.

Hopefully they can keep in touch.
Hitomi seems to be an interesting character.
They didn’t even get to say goodbye…
@ Kuraimizu:
Or it can be like a romantic movie time thing where she chases him through the airport to catch him, confess her feelings before he leaves and book a seat thst was a last minute cancellation.
Maybe he could buy her a ticket. In this day and age, the plane can’t be overbooked…

THIS IS MY DI–er…RICHARD.
That was *plane* anticlimactic. You know this sort of thing doesn’t *fly* here
@ Regis Earsquake:
My high school English teacher’s wife is small (in comparison to his 6’4’’ giant body), and her face has remained paranormally young even though she’s the same age as him (and they’re both Caucasian, no Asian super genes here). He told us students about how at his last school his wife came with him to the school football game and the principal went up to him and said, “I don’t think it’s appropriate for you to go out in public with an 19 year old.” They were both 30 at the time. Another time later, when his wife was pregnant, a bunch of women passing by at the mall commented, “Isn’t teenage pregnancy so sad?”
Also, about this particular comic, never underestimate Asian super genes that make all Asians appear 10 years younger in comparison to other ethnicities.
