Here’s the obligatory link to our Kickstarter campaign for the Gaia anthology and Sandra and Woo books!
- Larisa: I finally got around to watching The Last Airbender.
- Sandra: And, what do you think?
- Larisa: Great characters and interesting story!
- Sandra: I also loved the soundtrack.
- Larisa: Yeah, great movie.

I guess that’d be the only way you could enjoy the movie: by not having seen the show first
I admit, I am surprised.
And that’s how Larissa got to see what was in Sandra’s basement…
Wow, I completely forgot about there was a movie, xD
@ Dokalo:
We dont talk about that Hate Crime against Filmmaking
And now we know definitively that Larisa is Evil™…
Well, Larisa wants to watch the world burn… so yeah, she would love the movie just to watch the beautiful fire
I think its more that Larisa enjoyed the idea of the Fire Nation where mages have the ability to throw around fire using their innate abilities. She is already a pyromaniac who enjoys setting fires by conventional means, imagine how she would love being able to set fires with out the use of aids such as matches, etc..
I thought it was alright.
Mind, as a parent, I’ve spent the last 12 years watching children’s movies, and have only recently gotten the family to graduate to watching Lupin anime.
Sandra: *screaming internally*
Noooo… I liked larisa. she was such a great character
Well, Larisa is one eager to start a flame war
Ok: I will admit to being dense. How does this answer the prior comic? They seem like two disconnected stories with the same two characters.

If people can only enjoy X, not seeing Y, it’s nothing else than bias.
Fortunately bias doesn’t concern me and I would be able o enjoy movie after watching show with no problem. Because I do not pretend that something is bad, when it’s not, just because something else is better.
I think I will never stop saying this, but worse doesn’t mean bad, as well better doesn’t mean good. Worse can be amazing. But it only means that better is even more amazing.
Hating things for no reason is bad. And hating movie, because show is better is not a valid reason.
@ Kitsune:
Errrr… You can say A is better than B without hating B. Having a different opinion (or taste) doesn’t imply hate.
I’m old enough to have “suffered” The Neverending Story film after reading the book. In my opinion (and most people’s one) the book is vastly superior to the film. There are some reasons for that: the book is too rich to be put in a movie, the 80s’ special effects wasn’t up to the game, and the director chose to alter the story in some important ways. For example, Fujur, the majestic golden dragon, in the film is some kind of dog-faced, furry, flying snake. I have yet to find someone who has read the book and thinks that the film is decent. But that doesn’t mean I hate it. It’s a nice film to see on a Saturday afternoon. Specially if you have read the book and can fill the gaps.
Alright, time to burn Larisa at the stake

Sandy’s face is the face of someone who is about to commit murder.
Judged on its own merits, The Last Airbender is in fact a great movie, whose biggest failing is that it ended on a cliffhanger and then never received a sequel. It is only when it’s judged as an adaptation that it can be looked down upon. A bad adaptation is not necessarily a good work.
@ DTIBA:
*A bad adaptation is not necessarily a bad work. Or, alternately, *A bad adaptation is not excluded from being a good work. I started with writing one, went to change to the other, and didn’t finish before posting.
Slap. Her.
Life advice: Don’t keep your secrets lying around in the basement(?)
some people just want to watch the world burn
but then again, it’s Larissa…
The only people that can say that with a straight face are those who are trying to provoke a response.
What!?!

Judlng it on it own merits, it a HORRIBLE movie. Some of the worse tell don’t show writing, most of the script is exposition.
the acting was wooden, and I’m someone who general doesn’t have a problem with child actors (though know people that do have no objectivity on them)
It has a horrible pacing
and total miss match betwne corargray and special effect (5 earth benders doing a group cororage that implease a massive build up, just for to start move a rock on the small side of media, that slowly)
Just watch this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MgV9vymLIdQ
That is basically my opinion on that abomination of a movie
Andcfor all fansxof the sho I wholly recomend this channel. It is not just Atla but has many great videos about it. My fav would be the psychology of Azula.
Case in point, take “I Robot” as an adabtion if you squint your eyes and tilt your head just right, you can see a resblence to one of the short stories in the book, and worse yet it theme is antithetical to the who reason Asimov wrote about prostronic robots to get away from the frankensiten effect, so as an Adbation it a bad adbation
But as Stand alone film it works as an enjoyable summer action film.
Troll level: MAXIMUM
But seriously, Avatar (the real one) does have great characters. Too bad it never got a sequel.
Okay, pack it up people, Larisa just became Worst Girl, we had a good run, but it’s time to go, move it to the exits, no discussions, no trials, 100 years dungeon, SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FU—
All I can say about that movie is that watching it with the knowledge of the source material is a torturous cringe fest. Could my opinion have been different if I haven’t watched the source material at all? Probably, but not by much.
This kind of movie is way outside M.Night’s field of expertise. While challenging yourself to get out of comfort zone is not a bad move, if something that could have been a great franchise adaptation flopped as the sacrifice, it’s little more than a sour experience for the audience.
Of all the ways to get into Avatar, that movie has to be the worst.
Damn I represed my memory of the movie to much to remember if it has enough fire in it to override Larissa’s senses. Is anyone cused with good memory around who was victim of watching that film (to the end)?
Will nobody say nothing about the obvious subliminal advertising in the poster on the wall of Sandra? XD
[Record needle scratch] Wait, what?

I was tempted to go see what the fuss was about, until I read that name. Now I know what the fuss is about.
So TIL there has been a live-action movie made. We learn every day…
The movie was ok. It’s certainly not as good as the cartoon, but still, it’s ok.
SUS! LARISSA IS SUS!!!
She’s testing for pod people. Sandra has been acting kinda weird – if she doesn’t react to THAT bit of trollbait, tie her up and check the basement for the REAL Sandra!
BLASPHEMY!
This is Larissa attempt at starting an online firestorm…I think it will work.

I think she just realised she was talking to Larissa , and that she just may have been enjoying different bits of the movie… And not along the lines of the Plot.. At all…
That’s not a murder face, that’s a “oh dear.. we may have a problem here..” face..
There is no movie in Ba Sing Se.
The Earth King has invited you to Lake Laogai.
What is the meaning of this?
In Larisa’s defense, the movie is in fact a good movie on all the points raised. The characters are in fact well-composed, and although the actors were clearly not pulling their weight, they were all visually appropriate for their character, which is more than can be said for a lot of cheap adaptations. Plus Aang’s intricate tattoos look GORGEOUS compared to the originals. The story is indeed interesting, even if they did make the mistake of assuming they would get to do another one and so ended it on a clidfhanger. And soundtrack is one of those things you can only really mess up by using nothing but popular songs thinking that somehow makes it better, which was not done here.
And on the other hand, although the movie itself does suck, it has succeeded on the one point that any adaptation worth its salt will endeavor to: it made Larisa interested in the franchise. Being as she has clearly had to put off watching something she really wanted to (an experience that a lot of can relate to), she should know that the intended sequel will not be forthcoming. But because it is an adaptation, she doesn’t have to settle for the abandonment of never getting the continuation. She can now look into the series knowing that she is interested in its core concept, and enjoy what it has to offer.
Yes, the movie is awful, but if it makes people interested in the series, it’s doing something good.
In my culture, I would be well within my rights to dismember you.
@ Suomynona:
So, on further review, I got my adaptations mixed up. The Last Airbender was NOT the one with the visually-accurate actors. I apologize for saying as much. The other points still stand, though.
What movie? They never made any movie. Did they release something recently?
@ Dokalo:
We all try to forget that
