[1274] Stairway To The Skies

You have no idea how long it took me to letter this!
- Steps: General relativity – Quantum mechanics – Turing machine – Standard model of cosmology
- Scientist #1: Whew, the next two steps look tough!
- Scientist #2: Yeah, but then we’ll be done!
- Steps: Dark energy and dark matter – Unified field theory
- Steps: Quantum computing – Hot fusion – Cold fusion – Room-temperature superconductor – Anti-gravity warp drive – Lukewarm fusion – Intelligence amplification – Black hole information storage – Multi-universal Teichmüller Theory – Consciousness-oriented programming (C&&) – Unified field theory v2 – Teleportation – Hypercomputation (Zeno-Turing machine) – Busy Beaver computing – Lazy Beaver computing – Shape shifting – Tachyonic antitelephone – Non-deterministic time machine – Paradox-free time machine – XÆA-12’s Incompleteness Theorem – XÆA-12’s Completeness Theorem – Global consciousness sideloading – Super Mario Bros. in 4:52 – Atom recombination – Particle recombination – Bug-free software – Unified field theory v3 – G.E.C.K. Construction Kit – Unified field theory v4 – Unified field theory v5 – Unified field theory v6 – Unified field theory v7 – Guess what – Interdimensional travel – Interdimensional existence – The Last Theorem – The Last Theorem-final – The Last Theorem-final2 – The New Reality – Fire

First letter could be K, but it’s not followed by “pop”,I don’t think. The German version of the strip has a different word, and K pop would be the same.
I also easily see more than three letters. The issue is, the last two seem to be a lower height, which doesn’t make sense with a capital font.

What LAST step? You mean the last fully visible on the picture, just below the one partially visible, which is certainly not last either?
@ Cheuk:
Oh I don’t know, there’s already research in “self-healing” software (mostly it’s just IDEs with autocorrect, but it actually tries to understand what you’re doing and correct accordingly — things like “oh this is a quicksort, but you forgot a ‘merge’ here”)
@ HKMaly:
I think he means the barely-readable three-letter one
The last step is definetely “meh”.
I wonder if they brought a slinky 😉
Silliness aside. I really like this one.
I’m somewhat surprised that the last visible step isn’t “What do you get if you multiply six by nine?”

It’s definitely not: the first letter isn’t an M, not unless it’s in a different font than the rest. The two slanted lines should go down all the way, which they clearly can’t, as whatever is in the middle stops halfway down. It’s either K, H, or maybe R. That, or it’s P or F followed by an I. Leaning towards K at the moment.
The last letter or two is frustrating, as they don’t seem to be the same height as the first two. Maybe a subscript…? But no, there’s nothing like that in the German version. Bah.

So I wasn’t the ONLY person to notice that.
LoL

Not want to discount collegues in the particle research, but they should also give some resources to other fields where we can press some more practical things – for instance we can use lasers to do proton acceleration to.
there is potential to do their things with far smaller scales.
We can maybe work on some contained fusion to… to put it bluntly LHC had their fun, let others do some stuff to.
We could get gene therapies that give us extra quater a century of life… we can give rats a quater of life extra with just small therapy that teaches cells to metabolize their celular waste…
There is time to put money elsewhere too…
Heh.
I blew up the picture as much as I could, and I’m pretty certain the last step says … “Fire”.
Of course it does.

Doesn’t the ‘ACE’ technique already have it down to less than a minute?

It’s very easy!
Suppose a cashier has amount of money in the till diverging with the sum derived from the log of sales. Badly. So she just says “it must be Dark Money! It’s invisible!”. Question: will the inspector look at her in awe and praise her?
But when much the same happens to a cosmologist, journalists coo like birds and report on awesome predictions of Cutting Edge Science.
And if having a theory obviously falsified doesn’t topple it at all, but turns into “wrong, therefore even more right”… well, this tells us a lot. Perhaps not about the rest of Universe, but certainly about the academia.
Kind of missing the improbability drive here.
@ Half-Life-Zim:
Kind of redundant though.
Garden of Eden Construction Kit Construction Kit?
GECK Construction kit LMAO
Yeah, that’s one helluva beast to dominate, wouldn’t be if it didn’t crash all the time, and leave dirty edits.
Must say though, the CK part in GECK already means Construction Kit, as in, Garden of Eden Construction Kit, so ya went on a roundabout there! 🙂
We already have lukewarm fusion, technically?
