[1303] Larisa vs. Hard Sci-fi

- Zoey: What will the song be about?
- Larisa: I was reading a bit about Warhammer 40k and stumbled upon the poetic line that “the heroes are raging against the dying of the light.”
- Zoey: That sounds… bleak.
- Larisa: Yeah, I need to give it a more positive spin. But I like the theme!
- Landon: A song with a science fiction theme would be very cool!
- Larisa: Hmm… It could also be a song about Zoey meeting the only alien species even more self-absorbed than herself.
- Sandra: Let’s stick to hard sci-fi, please!
- Zoey: Ha… Ha… Haa.
I really like the double meaning in Sandra’s comment. 🙂
So would Larissa!
Emperor protects!
Dylan Thomas is Sci-Fi now? We could do worse I suppose.
If you like hard Sci-Fi rock, can I recommend the album “Traveller” by The Lord Weird Slough-Feg? It’s a rock opera about a space smuggler who gets tricked by an evil scientist into harvesting an ingredient for an alien plague that turns people into a loyal army of alien wolfmen.
Warhammer 40k has been thoroughly tainted by Warhammer+. Best to try something more popular like battletech. Nothing says awesome like giant robots.
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
— Warhammer 40k
Larissa, all knows you are good but this go far away than a miracle (far far far away).
There won’t be any specie like that.

Thank you.
Dylan Thomas in the poem Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night.
Is Warhammer riffing off Dylan Thomas?
Here’s the full poem, for those curious:
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
I would suggest Xandria’s Nightfall. Symphonic Metal vibe.
Here it comes, the story, of mankind’s final glory
Into the nightfall
The showdown, now has come, this will be the last curtain
Before the night falls
In a desert burning, children’s faces turning
Into another enemy in war
Icy winds are blowing
Over bodies piling high
There’s no place left for more
Oh save me from sharing this hell
Oh save me from my blame
Here it comes, the story, of mankind’s final glory
Into the nightfall
The showdown, now has come, this will be the last curtain
Before the night falls
We are worshiping the gods
That keep twisting our thoughts
Everyday a new sensation
While a million creatures
See their soil turning to dust
Hrimata eleison
Oh save me from sharing this hell
Oh save me from my blame
Here it comes, the story, of mankind’s final glory
Into the nightfall
The showdown, now has come, this will be the last curtain
Before the night falls
Forever and ever
You hear them crying
Forever and ever
This world is dying
We had so much time to understand
Here it comes, the story, of mankind’s final glory
Into the nightfall
The showdown, now has come, this will be the last curtain
Before the night falls
We are rising higher, closer to the fire
Let the final dance begin
@ Paeris Kiran:
For the God-Emperor!
I love how adorable and earnest Landon is. He and Larisa is such an interesting pairing…
… I’m at a loss for how to make “rage, rage against the dying of the light” less bleak. 0_o I mean, take away the bleakness, and what’s left? If the light is dying it’s inherently sad, and if it isn’t, you have to find something else to rage about.
If you are looking for inspiration, Evertale did some catchy Warhammer 40k songs. They also like to sing about fire. 🙂

Space marines to war
The beast must die today, my friend
We strike the hive-mind
Right at its bloody core
Brothers they shall burn
For each of us a thousand die
We make our stand, rain fire from the sky
It better still have that ABBA flair.
Oof… The comic has been highly “smart” already…
Now it tries to be “smart” about 40k… Here we go, I guess… 🤷♂️🤦♂️
So their band is going to be somewhere between Gloryhammer and Iron Savior?
@ Atuday:
Need not worry citizen! For the faithful few work hard to purge (with fire, lots and lots of fire) Warhammer of that sickening heretical propaganda and you can do your part by not subscribing to that sham too.
Larisa-Fi?
If we are going down the rabbit hole of 40K, how about “Death of hope” fan fiction stuff set in 30K, but grimdark, and really the empire at its lowest point, in almost all things…well unless you compare to just after the fall of Cadia, and the sundering of the universe and all that. I guess, you can just throw every lore and the sink at the wall, and whatever sticks is going to be a fantastic tale that always end in or start with exterminatus events.
First I was curious, now you have my attention
The way I see it, bands start with people liking each other, then breaking up because of in-fighting. However, adding Zoe means their band is already at that point, so really, they’ve nowhere to go but up!
Is that a banana in Landon’s pocket or is he just happy to see Larisa?
