- Yuna: This is so exciting! With this track, we’ll be able to determine the properties of a “perfect” marble!
- Yuna: Material, mass, diameter, roundness, center of gravity, weight distribution! All of that could be a factor!
- Yuna: According to my calculations, we need to conduct only 6925 races for statistically significant results!
- Sandra: There’ll be twelve races this season. And next year as well.
- Yuna: What kind of attitude is that?! There’s research to be done!

“Perfect” for what? Any research you conduct is useless unless you specify a falsifiable definition of the “perfect” marble.

Wait, wouldn’t Yuna want to do testing during the off-season anyway?
That would allow her to establish controls, test different marbles in isolation, test a wider variety of marble types…
Trying to test during actual races would introduce too many variables, make it near impossible to eliminate biases, and of course interfere with the integrity of the actual races.
What kind of lab safety is that, anyway? Get your innocent bystanders, assistants, lackeys, victims and spectators to wear some goggles, too, Yuna!

Well their are only 12 professional races but their are hundreds of preliminary races to see what teams get in she can use those for her tests but remember that there are different types of courses and a marble that is good in one could be terrible in another

Even the characteristics that make a marble perfect for rolling will vary substantially from track to track.
Remember, forces always exist in pairs, so the marble’s velocity will always depend on the track, too.
Yuna. You can’t know how many races it will take to get statistically significant results without knowing the degree of the effect (and if that’s the case then I don’t know what further information your experiments are supposed to determine.) If one feature causes 53% wins vs a control marble and another causes 97% wins, you’ll almost certainly need more races to learn the first is significant than the second.
