Here’s the obligatory link to our Kickstarter campaign for the Gaia anthology and Sandra and Woo books!
- Sandra: What do you think?
- Richard: It is awesome!
- Richard: And pink! … Very, very pink!
- Richard: My retina is melting.
- Hitomi: Yuna helped Hitomi make Stuart Semple’s “Pinkest Pink” much pinker!
- Yuna: To harden yourself, I recommend watching several hours of magical girl anime.

Am I the only one seeing a side banner ad showing 3 different pink shirts for sale? I’m wondering if this strip being about the color pink triggered something in an algorithm.
yuna went cross-eyed
such is the cost of science
Times to be glad this comic is in black and white.
@ ekimmak:
I was just thinking how this comic strip in particular would work well having just the track in colour, like how some Noir films are in black and white but have red blood, for example. Of course, since we are talking about a fantastical shade of pink, it cannot exactly be recreated, but the contrast to the colourless rest of the strip could at least convey the feeling.
@ John Merklinghaus:
I have pink salt a pink hat and a pink raccoon.
I recommend Madoka Magica.
It’s a great breakdown of pretty much every magical girl anime!
Pink!
@ Mr. Random: (and anyone else interested in anime)
Madoka Magica is on my (and the wife’s) to watch list. Is there any other good Magical Girl series worth checking out, if we’ve alread watched Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura and Yuki Yuna. And Kiki’s Delivery Service, though that was just a movie, not a complete series. We’ve also watched Fairy Tail and Yumeiro Patissiero, both fantasy, but not really Magical Girl.
@ John Merklinghaus:
Makes more sense than a lot of the ads I get.
I am right now designing pink colormaps for scientific visualization. Not wanting to melt any brains, I took out the pinkest tones. Too pink. We call the result the “tranquil” colormap, especially when combined with pale sky blue tones, one natural counterpart of pink in RGB space. This comic expresses well the need to keep the map and the viewers tranquil … Thanks!
@hakko504
Be careful with Madoka. If you have children, this is not a show for them.
I don’t remember if it was by the end of the second or the third episode but the show is getting really dark at that point. It is not comparable to Pretty Cure, Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura or similar shows. It is going down into the deep depths of psychological torment.
That’s the pink formulation an artist made open source in response to the maker of “the blackest black” registering his formula as proprietary. If I recall correctly that is.
@ tudza:
Should have called it “Wanton Pink” out of spite…
@ Egomane:
Third episode.
Anyone is allowed to use this pink except Anish Kapoor right?
@ John Merklinghaus:
My ad banner on the side is blissfully empty. 🙂 Probably overloaded by the pinkness. 😉
@ hakko504:
Madoka Magica is great, but not for everyone (especially not for children). It starts all cute but takes a very dark turn at the end of episode 3.
By viewing it, you confirm that you are not Anish Kapoor, you are in no way affiliated to Anish Kapoor, you are not viewing this on behalf of Anish Kapoor or an associate of Anish Kapoor. To the best of your knowledge, information and belief this material will not make its way into the hands of Anish Kapoor.
Unless you are a girl between the ages of 8 and 13, pink is inexcusable.

As others said before, Madoka is a very good series, but it’s a deconstruction and becomes very dark. But if you actually want that, then Magic Girl Raising Project would be another option.
For the more normal ‘normal’ magic girls you could check out Rayearth or Nanoha.
The first season of Fate/ Kaleid are also a good magical girl anime, but
a) I recommend watching one of the Fate/Stay Nights first or you might might not get what’s going on at the start.
b) The later seasons sadly are just fanservice overkill.
While they are aren’t exactly magical girl, you could also have a look at Kamichu, Figure 17 or Strike Witches.
I actually got some of Stuart Semple’s colors for testing some time ago. The blackest black (3.0) and the glowiest glow pigment (green lit). But I wouldn’t touch that pink.
Ah, magical girl anime resistance. An important trait in modern RPGs.
Hitomi is delightful.
Uh oh – Hitomi’s collaborating with Yuna.
Be afraid.
Be very afraid.
Novil, just a note on language. At least in American English, Yuna’s line in the last panel could easily be misunderstood as “to arouse yourself” rather what I think was your intended “to accustom yourself”. The alternate meaning is actually pretty funny in the full sentence, but also rather awkward coming from a young girl. Was the double meaning intentional? If not, “to accustom yourself” would be the safer version.
Why did no one listen to Zordon? TOO MUCH PINK ENERGY IS DANGEROUS!

Um, these two guys outside say they’re John Waters and Friz Freleng, and they want to have a word with you . . . . 😀

just my thought.
*happily keeps visualizing the track in reasonable colors*
@ hakko504:
May I suggest Shugo Chara?
@ hakko504:
One of my favorites (very old) is Fancy Lala. It is the story of a girl who gains the power to transform into a teenager. She ends up becoming a pop idol. It’s actually pretty realistic. (other than the magical transforming)
@ Max:
The “transform into teenager” thing was also in Witch (not an anime).
Today Semple sent out a newsletter that he managed to make his pinkest pink even pinker. Coincidence?
@ hakko504:
I’d suggest check OVAS instead of season; I’d say madoka magica would be way way more popular had series followed OVAs idea instead of make it cliched plot mold
@ Baltor:
Rayearth definitely popped into my head as a good example.
If we want to stretch the definition a bit, Oh/Ah My Goddess was also enjoyable.
@ Editordude:
American here. I didn’t take it that way, especially in a clearly non-sexual context (and not specifically aimed at men).
Surely burning out retinas would make it harder to enjoy the race?
And then, the next day, Stuart Semple went and released a pinker pink
@ hakko504:
I recomend magical girl lyrical Nanoha, youst be ready for loots of befriending involving pink beams of doom.
@ Typeminer:
Bret Hart might also have something to say.
Pink, it’s the color of passion.
Am I right?
