This list is not intended to be exhaustive.
This image was originally posted as filler art but I removed it from the comic archive after a week so that the flow of the story isn’t harmed by it.
How so? And who would have been number 8, then? Let’s take a close look again, though I’m not sure I get what’s your reasoning here, anyway…
Former rankings and the changes were:
[1] Aolilatse (+1 San)
[2] Kairos Khan (+1 San, +1 Lili)
[3] Xarlaxe (+1 San, +1 Lili)
[4] Gregory of Askaroth (+1 San, +1 Lili)
[5] Ix (+1 San, +1 Lili)
[6] Viotrax (+1 San, +1 Lili, +1 Ariella)
[7] Ariella of Cheysh (+1 San, +1 Lili, -1 own)
[8] ??? (out of ranking now, presumably dead; Hel?)
[9] Torwin Flamt (+1 San, +1 Lili, +1 Leigh, -1 no. 8)
[10] Leigh Vaughn (+1 San, +1 Lili, -1 no. 8, -1 own)
[11] Morian the Elder (+1 San, +1 Lili, -1 no. 8)
[12] Favnir (+1 San, +1 Lili, +1 Arty, -1 no. 8)
[13] Brego Perathon (+1 San, +1 Lili, +1 Arty, -1 no. 8)
[14] Lilith Caillean (+1 San, -1 no. 8, -11 own)
[15] Ylana Kilie (+1 San, +1 Arty, -1 no. 8)
[16] Zuloor (+1 San, +1 Arty, -1 no. 8)
[17] Jarvis Osthur (+1 San, +1 Arty, +1 Oax, -1 no. 8)
[18] Oax (+1 San, +1 Arty, -1 no. 8, -1 own)
[19] Cedric Sedias (+1 San, +1 Arty, -1 no. 8)
[20] ??? (out of ranking out, likely because of others being better)
[-] Arty Jannon (up to 13 own)
[-] San de Vertis (up to 1 own)
Two people came in, two people (#8 and #20) are out of list; everything is in order. As far as I see, there’s room for Hel at both former 8th and former 20th position.
In parentheses I listed the place changed and its cause. So e.g. +1 San, +1 Arty, -1 no. 8, -1 own means that Oax went down the ranking by two places because of San and Arty ranking up before him, but went up by one place because of number 8 getting out of ranking and because he cast a spell powerful enough to outrun one of his opponents (Jarvis in that case).
All that assuming the former ranking has been made when Hel was alive; he could have been in the ranking two, three editions ago, but maybe not this and the one before (because both of them were made after Red Hall incident). We have no way of telling that. ^^”
(on a side note, it would be funny if that filler had one little detail – a circle-shaped milk stain somewhere on that ranking page)
Hel was #8.

Out of curiosity, would Ars be anywhere even close to on the list if still alive?
Also, you should probably announce the new poll. I was literally the seventh voter on the poll, so it’s brand-new but I don’t see an announcement for it.
The name Favnir caught my eye as being somewhat reminiscent of the great dragon (dwarf) Fafnir, and I am now rather curious as to the inspiration behind the names of the various characters, especially those listed here.
Lilith, of course, is an ironic name if related to Abrahamic religions, but significantly less so if related to Akkadian mythology, as then it would be associated more with spirits than with a demon. Still, considering that the Abrahamic religions are together probably followed by a majority of the human population, it does seem a bit odd to give a protagonist a name bearing such a strong association with evil.
A few other thoughts:
Khan is Mongolian for ruler.
Hel is the Norse goddess of the underworld.
Morian reminds me of morion, Quenya for “the dark one” (dark meaning evil, as opposed to a more accurate definition).
The Norse references (Hel, Fafnir) are probably more significant than the others, considering the name of the world, but there’s no way to know without having been told whether any of them have any bearing on the reality within which this story occurs.

Thanks Bree, I was just about to ask the same question.
Where would Ars be on the list if he was still alive?
I always thought of Ars as the Yoda of the Gaiaverse, uber strong, just really old now.

Sounds to me like the makers of this list this list don’t necessarily differentiate between ‘power’ and ‘skill.’
Granted, I’ve heard skill referred to as another sort of power. Would that be why?
I suppose rank 8 belonged to Hel Rekdal in the previous ranking list
er a question about the greendew evening standart : is it near the illeassari independence movement?
cuz Lillith gaining so much rank can be part of a pro independence propaganda since the official version is SHE helped the independence movement..
The ppl and the greendew evening standart doesn’t know she couldn’t have escaped alone, the official version is she managed to beat the whole elite prison guard corp without killing anyone and escape from the famous and actually higher ranking Morian the Elder by casting a completely original protection spell and as far as the ppl know even though she was exhausted the only way she and the two other managed to get out would be a three ppl (that’s quite a mass) teleport spell..
Of course we know she could never have do that but the ppl inside the comic but her friends and the shadowdancers do not know it..
So I suppose her real rank should be around 10 without counting all the very powerful unknown red mages of the like of Eldor..
As for San, I suppose she comes in because she carry that huge news about a spell that will end up in a new age that even Aolilatse didn’t forsaw…
BUt I really don’t think she’s that powerful, she must be around the level of Lillith : Not quite as powerful as Aolilatse that I suppose being stronger than Eldor..
As for the assymetric spirit lock Lillith manage to break that even Ariella couldn’t, don’t forget that Lillith is a nerd, of course she has more chance at it than a travelling mercenary archmage, she seems to be the kind of girl to value her time and especially freedom..
@ Bree:
my assumption is that Ars being somehow Hel’s Sidekick He was certainly in the top 100 which is already pretty awesome
that only give some hint about the power of the assassins and that this top 20 would certainly have a bunch of new heads if it could count unknown rogue red mage like eldor and some of the assassins

What do you base your ranking on? We’ve actually seen very few people cast spells, and Lilith manages not only chains of spells but highly difficult ones, and no matter what people think she did in the Red Hall, it’s clear she’s got some clout.
In the space of 2 weeks, she has, to her credit: Destroying a magically reenforced building meant to contain magic, participating in/surviving a massive attack with multiple epic level spells being cast during it, breaking out of a magic-proof prison, conjuring a spell that completely stymied all abilities of not only the most powerful mage in cania’s army, but multiple other lesser mages at the same time, chain casting several of the previous, her little staircase thing(multiple shield spells stacked diagonally!), and then, in the SAME DAY, breaking an asymetrical spirit lock. So, between her chain casting epic spells during the prison escape(WITHOUT A STAFF!) and the fun stuff leading up to it, it’s rather questionable how anyone outranks her–she clearly should be dead.
Also, thanks for the info on Hel, I missed that in the numbering. Makes sense that way.
@ mittfh:
the blue name are for dragons, the red are for Imps and the black are for Human, I suppose they are all blue stream mage because Red stream magi is considered an heresy..
Of course that doesn’t mean the most powerful and openminded of them doesn’t have their little secret..
the dragons and imps and surely that Ariella and Khan I think might use red stream too
Wooow!…not only Cute but San de Vertis is someone you wouldn’t like to mess with O_o”

Now that I think about it…San could’ve just had her most powerful spell be a healing spell.

If by “revive” you don’t mean “bring back from the dead”, then yes. (Bring back from near-death should be fine from my understanding, though!)

“In the same day”? I’m not sure about that, we don’t know how long has it been between Lilith falling unconscious and waking up in Shadowkeep. Could have been 2 hours, or even 2 days. We had a “8 minutes later” caption inside the Black Marble, but no caption after that. Considering how the rest was surprised when they’ve sen her up, I’d say it’s been quite a while.
As for “without a staff!” – Lilith said it herself, a staff helps you focus spells (ie hit smaller targets at greater range). Maybe it would help in building a little smaller Black Marble, and in consequences with a little bit tougher walls, but the overall “mana cost” would stay the same – anyway that’s the way I understand it. All other spells she used were even supposed to be unfocused, so they would scare guards away, without harming them.
We also don’t know what are San and Aolilatse capable of casting and surviving it. And how many times, how long, etc etc.
By the way, the ranking is “ordered by the supposed power of the most powerful spell they are able to cast”. There’s nothing about chaining difficult spells, amount of powerful spells you can cast during one day, and so on – it’s pretty much like Lilith commented it in RH-33: ” a contest about who can cast the largest fireball”.
For those who claim that Lilith was #8 because that’s what Alissa stated, this is what she actually said:
• 1: It was only her opinion, not the publishers of the paper.
• 2: She was referring to a Top-10 list published by the Aracona Times. The Top-20 list above is from the Greendew Evening Standard.
• 3: The Aracona Times list was limited to only Canian wizards. The Greendew Evening Standard list is for all Gaia.
@ Lucid:
I base my ranking on the fact that she is just a young graduate..
maybe she is in top 5 in breaking an assymetric spirit lock and breaking or casting protection spell
but in term of power and “mana” she clearly is overrated..
think about it, the ppls think she managed to protect and teleport 3 ppl out and that after being chased by the elite guards of the prison..
We of course know she was way to exhausted to teleport, we don’t even know if she can actually teleport, but the ppl thinks she can not only teleport herself but other ppl just like she wasn’t even exhausted by all she did prior to Black Marble..
Lillith is clearly overrated by everyone, she -along with San- IS the hot wizard actually, they are kind of the stars of the wizard world with the late event…
@ PMark:
It’s true, but I understood #1 a bit differently – I think that Alissa meant something like “if I recall you belong at position 8”, since it’s been a few weeks since the list was published, rather than “I believe you would be placed at 8th position”. It would mean that the paper “officially” placed Lilith at position 8 or so, but Alissa doesn’t remember if it really was 8, or maybe 7 or 9?
@ Apsik:
Yes, your interpretation is certainly possible, but there are problems with it.. If that was what she meant, she would have more likely said, “I believe you were at position 8″, or possibly, “I believe you belonged at position 8″. Saying, “I believe you belong…”, makes it present tense, not past tense. The list was published several weeks ago, so talking about where she was on that list back then should be given in the past tense.
Apsik wrote:
We know it was the same day, because Eldor attacked Delvor right after the letter was read, and demanded to know about the rescheduling. The letter itself says that the spirit lock was broken that day. So, as portrayed:
1. (Pre-dawn)Delvor reschedules the execution to early morning.
2.(Early morning) Lili escapes.
4.(?) Lili wakes up,
4. (2 hours later)Lili opens the box.
5. (? hours later) Vivi sends the letter.
6. (Mid afternoon)Letter delivered
7. (Near dusk)Letter read
8. (? minutes later) Delvor “dies” for rescheduling.
It wouldn’t make much sense for Eldor to have not spoken to Delvor for several days, given they work in the same office, particularly since Lili escaping was kind of a big deal, given her “crime of the century” status. Everything else is painted out as happening in the space of one rather eventful long late spring day(we’re around may 15th, if I understand the calendar correctly). Given the temperate climate and boreal forest flora shown, and general rules displayed, it’s likely Gaia is similar to earth, and that a “late spring day” in such a location would last 14 to 16 hours.
Thus, our given time line would be 15~17 hours, so 6 am to 9pm. With the times filled in,
we have:
1.(6 am)
2.(8-9? am)
3.(around noon–remember, she makes food(lunch))
4.(2pm)
5.(3pm?)
6.(4pm?)
7.(8-9pm)
8.(9:05pm)
This not only matches the time synch boxes, this also matches with all of the lighting and sky details drawn by the authors, gives Lili time to relax and recover, and also fills in all the plot holes of “so wtf happened for X amount of time while she was gone?” If it was more than just a few hours on a single day, there should’ve been massive off-screen plot development, with Cania over-reacting to Ileasaar(who Eldor had already implicated, before the break out), troops destroying the academy(who is under heavy suspicion), and tons of political turmoil.
On top of all of that, We have San delivering her speech. We were told about this back in the graveyard, and given the notion that it will be quite soon. There’s no reason she’d wait months to talk to them, but as the plan was unfolding about building the Lilibot, we’re looking at the graveyard scene being somewhere around 8 to 10 days before the execution was scheduled. We’re not sure exactly when San spoke to the dragons, but if it was still in the timeline we’re seeing, it would be 9 to 11 days after the graveyard scene, which means that Sia showed up about a week early to hear San speak, which makes a lot of sense given her circumstances.
So, the most plausible timeline for the last chapter is only the span of about 3 days(flashback excluded), day 2 containing all the action, day 1 being the setup, and day 3 being San speaking and the king flipping out.
“What does the scanner say about Lilith’s potential?” “It’s ()))!!!!!”
Wait, Ix? As in THE CHILD? THE CHILD IMP IS THE SEVENTH MOST POWERFUL WIZARD ALIVE?
No, Ix as in the Member of the Dragon Council of Santhilia, that probably can be seen in the lower left part of 3rd panel in LJB: 79.
The child imp is Xis, as 2nd panel of TS: 31 shows.
