Ask Novil questions about Gaia
└ posted on Tuesday, 6 March 2018, by Novil
It’s been almost a year since the last “Ask Novil questions about Gaia” post. Since it’s a pretty popular format, I want to do that once per year. Here are the previous editions: [1] [2], [3].
The comment section of this post is the right place for all your questions about the plot and characters of Gaia and everything related to it.

Gaia has Magitech.
If we read the comic carefully enought; is there anyy chance, that we already know where/how the “strange voice” in the panel on this page http://www.sandraandwoo.com/gaia/2012/10/12/shadowdancers-053/ comes from?
Or will this be shown in the future?

1) Eldor played no part in it. But it was also not a case of a conscious decision by Amos which is clearly indicated by his behavior.
2) At the beginning of the transmission she clearly wore the real Avaril. Since it would have been deceptive storytelling if I had left out a crucial moment in her speech where she took it off and exchanged it with a fake, one can reasonably assume that she still wore the real Avaril at the end of the transmission and that the guards then immediately confiscated it.

The species were already created that way at the beginning of life on Gaia. Some of them may have been added later by Gaia, but this isn’t something I have given considerable amount of thought.

1) There is an area in the sky that is brighter than the rest. But since the difference is not that large, the earth-like shadows in the artwork are the result of me and Powree taking some artistic freedom in our depiction of the world. In reality, the shadows on Gaia would indeed be duller than on Earth.
2) You’re splitting hairs.
3) Yes, it’s impossible to visualize. Gaia does not rotate. The cosmology of Gaia is completely different than that of our own universe. It makes no sense to compare them.

1) In http://www.sandraandwoo.com/gaia/2016/11/05/monster-057/ it is clearly shown that Eldor carried out an operation on Viviana. This looks noticeably different from his encounter with San. So it seems unlikely that he put a similar sphere into Viviana’s chest.
2) Yes, there is a good number of cities that are built next to rivers. For example, Aracona and Conarath are built next to the Conas river in Cania. And Heyselfall is built next to a lake with huge waterfalls and a river emerging from them. Another main factor is the proximity to natural resources, including magic crystals in the soil.

According to Viviana that was her own voice. So it must be herself or someone/something with a very similar speech pattern.
Is The Way Back Home chapter almost finished or will it be another fifty pages or so?
And how many chapters do you think are going to be released after this one?
Or will you determine that when you write the scripts for these chapters?
@ Ardour:
Novil said earlier that the comic was inbetween 1/2 and 2/3 done

It’ll be at least as long as “Breaking All Barriers” which means 50+ additional pages.
If it isn’t late, I would like to see if my theories are correct:
1) Are humani and elven able to crossbreed?
2) Is that magical “organ” vital, i. e. would a person survive its injury or replacement?
Are crystals one use only, or can they be used multiple times? Because during the prison break, the shadow dancers seemed to only be able to use the rocksplosion crystal once; however, when Ilias and Alissa had previously tried to contact the shadow dancers, Ilias used a blowback crystal in a demonstration before giving it to Vivianna.
How far can a portal take someone from location A to location B?
Can you send a drone to scout what’s on other side of portal?
How wide is the range of drone’s signal?
Can a drone’s signal be lost if it is in portal’s side that is way too far from portal’s other side?
Given the unique cosmology of Gaia, how do they know that it’s round?
What are the relative economic strengths of Cania, Ileasaar, and Midgard?
Can the various known lock spells be compared to modern cryptography, like say the general advice for rolling your own? If so, what are some examples?
A bit late, but here it goes:
1. We know that Eldor has allies under humans and elfs. Has Eldor allies under the dragons and Kali is the mediator between him and his Dragon allies? If not, where did Eldor know Kali?
2. Who exactly were working in the laboratory the shadowdancers found and receive the teleportation cubes
from?
3. We know that Lilith/San are exceptional mages, Jael is an exceptional thief, Gladus an exceptional adventurer and fighter. Are there minor characters who are also not only very good, but exceptional in their profession? Erius Fedoro as prison ward, Cherek as mechanic etc.
4. What was in the roll Faye send with the little dragon in “The Tower of the Sky” 5 ? Was the butterfly on the window in reality a polymorphed hostile dragon and intercepted the little dragon?
5. The Tower in the Sky *is* exactly where the people of Oakdale have been asleep and where the Shadowdancer members have been kept? The Tower in the Sky is actually over the entrance to Baal’s domain, the Void?
6. The invasion of Eldor’s henchmen came from the locked door in the Shadowkeep?
