Creating a mana knife is 1- clearly a spell 2- something you very much want to stop prisoners from doing. She should have been zapped. 3- Lilly may have needed the mana knife to cut the stick off of wooden silverware, or it may be a chopstick? Shish kabob in prison is counter indicated as a shiv. 4- despite several fight scenes she doesn’t use the mana knife again. No one ever questions this.
She already shown the ability to use even more complicated spells than the mana knife without being detected. For example, the spell she used to get through the wall.
And I suspect this mana knife is a tool, not working well in fight. Or at least, not something Lilly would though about as a weapon.
@ HKMaly:
Yeah, but she’s in prison! She’s supposed to be jailed by experts! Jailed by people who have seen every way for a prisoner to do bad things- garrotes made with hair, shivs made with clothing and glue, holes in walls made from chicken bones, etc. OK I may be projecting from the way things are on Earth, but for “innocent, naive Lilli” to be so far ahead of the prison planners and “Stop that zap” system? And she’s not even digging with a spoon. 🙂
@ Vicious Sand:
Bear in mind that Lilith is one of the best, if not THE best mage on Gaia. Circumventing the prison defenses like that is likely a talent only a handful of mages possess, and even they might not think of it in this situation and/or they’re not likely to get in prison in the first place.
Besides, the magic detector doesn’t differentate between spells. It zapped Lilith for a small illusion spell, which she then learned to make undetectable. If she hadn’t, she had been spellectrocuted by now for experimenting with making loopholes in the wall – the knife isn’t more detectable than that.
