Eldor’s classy. You can’t inspire fear in the ranks if you kill all the witnesses…. every time.
We never learned what sort of disabled that Guard #1’s son is. Physical? Mental? Anyone can be born without an arm or whatnot. It does help flesh out the sort of world Gaia is, as we never get any real “the downtrodden” scenes. Of course, the peoples of Gaia tend to make sure that the peoples of Gaia can get by without hardship.
He’s still appears to be a villain, by his murderous actions of San’s dear friend, the Red Hall Massacre, and other atrocities to come… but he’s not in it for pure chaos. He kills and sows chaos as necessary for his plans. But, if Delvor didn’t mess with Eldor’s plans… he’d be an exile in some corner of Cania, instead of spending the next 100 years in some shadow realm. This show of ego, followed by the quick assessment that these two guards are properly cowed, and lack the heroic virtues that might require their imprisonment or disposal… it really does convey Eldor an intelligence, and a power, instead of bloodthirsty or leader of a cult.
