This is what one might call “a disturbance in the Force.”
This SD sub-plot doesn’t get mentioned enough to give the proper data. All we know is that it happens. If some people got killed, then the readers have to be told (ok, after they get out of Oakdale) how many. I don’t recall it, despite a recent reread.
Viv gaining psycic powers is the only way for the main characters to know what’s going on. You’d think that there would be some way for her to follow up using V’s crystal collection or something from the available-to-consult “disturbance in the bluestream” Lilly.
