I find the jump to “our adversaries planted this spellbook in the bookshop specifically to have Lili study it” a little abrupt, and a bit egocentric.
While the past few panels have done well to describe how special the book is, and have been great for filling in some lore of the world; it is still a bit of a jump from “special book shows up in the bookstore mysteriously” to “our adversaries planted it specifically so I can study it.” I don’t think we’ve even seen them come to the conclusion that whatever is going on is specifically targeting them, have we? I mean, I as an outside observer still don’t have anything conclusive to indicate that either; aside from the old adage “once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is enemy action.” In other words, if I was in their situation I’d be really suspicious and operating under the premise that someone hostile is targeting us, but suspicions are just that.
And while I label it being egocentric, I also find her confidence impressive. I suppose she *is* a self-admitted specialist in shields.
That being said, the pacing is great. It keeps me coming back for more, while also giving me enough to think on until the next one comes out. So while I find the jump in logic a little big, I can also see that it may have been a good pacing decision.
In any case, eagerly waiting for the next. I’m very much enjoying getting to re-experience the comic a second time, and I really like the “comic a day” pacing.
I agree, but they still just had a life-threatening experience (for Viviana) AND they are trapped. They know the two events are related (Vivi got lost in the magic maze and somehow got hurt in this process), they know their adversaries are super-powerful but don’t want to kill them (yet). So they want them alive for now. For what? They don’t know yet.
They find a mysterious book in a bookstore on *how to break powerful barriers*… and they are trapped by a barrier.
The link is obvious, but (from the info we have so far, of course I know the real end) it could be either:
#1 : a mysterious helper who want to help you to escape, by giving you the exact book you need
#2 : the adversaries who trapped you to force you to learn this spells
Ryn is a bit paranoïd, so I understand that he is jumping to conclusion #2. Maybe some members of the group are actually thinking of #1 ?
Man, you don’t know how true you are in that last panel, Ryn.
Though maybe not for the same reasons.
