I think that anyone should be suspicious of any plan that’s involved with attacking a school/academy. “Our plan is to create an unexpected magical spell. Now let’s attack this place that trains the best wizards.”
This does answer the Red Hall question, but not the motive. Eldor may not have told anyone his reasons. He should have been more open to getting three or four more sub-Lillith’s. Even if they weren’t equal to Lillith on their own, two or so of them should have given Eldor access to more magic, since more magic was always Eldor’s known goal. We just never found out what was “in the box” or what to do after he got it. And with no sequel to Gaia, we’re never going to find out.
Possibly Lilith isn’t just a better wizard, but instead a categorically different sort of wizard.
I’m unfamiliar with the previous run of Gaia, but my impression is that Lilith is a very special case, not just really good at this stuff. Like, maybe she’s an avatar of Gaia, or something like that.
This is a pretty stock standard evil cult in this scene. Though seeing Eldor in a pristine silvery blue structure gave the first pass that he knew a lot more than the dupes in the cult, interested in personal power and preservation, over a higher goal.

@ Brett Bellmore:
Some of these issues are addressed later in the series. Answering them would be spoilers.
