My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est:Powree struggled immensely with drawing San’s light spell. That also drove me up the wall since I considered it a very simple visual effect and I just couldn’t get into my head why she wasn’t able to get it right. To be honest, I still don’t understand it.

Re: comment
When it comes to visual art, sometimes the effects that you think will be easy turn out to be weirdly difficult. Or maybe it was just an issue of Powree having a specific idea about how it “should have” turned out versus how it actually turned out? Regardless, I like the end result 😀
San and the one-shot beatdown of the bossy dragon. I thought this should have had some sort of backlash later, like Axy betraying her or something. And the line “too holy” is quite the ‘this needs investigating’ too.
@ BlackDragonSlayer:
Me too! 😊
When I was playing D&D, if any member of the party had cowered away from a priest’s light spell, commenting that it was too “holy”, you’d have kept a VERY close eye on them going forward. Talk about hints about somebody’s alignment…
About the spell, I think the main issue is than normally light would spread like a flashlight or a fan, becoming wider as it goes away from the source. But for a spell it would either cover too much of the page, or look too faded in order to not block everything behind it. Making it thin out at the end and giving it a more sharp edge makes it look like a spear or a sword, more focused and clearly directed towards a single target, without being obstructive to the characters around and behind it. Is a clever solution, but not something that does come easily while thinking about how light should look normally.
This was one of the major points where I went, wtf San? Indeed the cast page puts up a few more red flags. This is one serious headcase. That nonetheless seems to be getting away with it. And is supposed to be on the protagonists’ side? Er. Well, bit of a hook for a sequel, no?
